  1. I was strolling around our local Sam's Club today and I noticed rain suits that looked like Frogg Toggs. They had some sort of reptile type logo and indicated that they were a Sam's exclusive item. They looked like Frogg Toggs and felt like Frogg Toggs and I am speculating that they were made by Frogg Toggs. The suits with a stuff sack were about $26. A pretty decent deal if you need a rain suit. They had them in grey, blue, green and tan. Personally I wear the FroggToggs Road Toads. DT
  2. So I'm trying to get up to speed on the technical aspects of my soon to be acquired 08 RSTD. I saw a post where someone mentioned that there was a change to the gearing (I presume for both RSV and RSTD) to eliminate gear whining. I looked around here and on the Star Motorcycles (Yamaha) site, but can't find anything about year-year changes, other than paint. Where might this be? Or do I need to buy some mechanic a 6-pack ?
  3. I bleed my clutch today and I got all the old fluid out that I could by doing it this way. The bottom of the reserve looked like liquid lead in it. I took a rag and got all of that out that I could. The fluid looked like strong coffee or a pepsi. The clutch slipped a little bit today when I went to pick up my son from school, but it was better than yesterday. I am going to try to post a picture of what the fluid looked like. Is there a better way to change the fluid than the way I done it? If so let me know. Appreciate the help. Thanks hairman
  4. Just curious what you all might suggest for Hwy pegs for my RSTD. I have looked at several different brands but thought I would get input before purchasing. So, what do you all think Thanks
  5. After looking at bikes for 8 months and with the warm weather threatening to come, it was time to replace Jan's bike. We looked at Kawasaki Vulcans, Yamaha V-Stars, Suzuki Boulevards, Honda Shadows. Even Bob Myer was helping us in the search. We looked for both new and used but Jan never found the bike she liked until.... On January 28th, we took our son to the MTC to start his mission. After we had said our good-bye's, Jan wasn't in the mood to just go home so I suggested that we stop in at the Lindon Harley-Davidson dealership. The dealership was built using much of it materials from the old Geneva Steel plant that was demolished across the street from their new facility. It is ready pretty neat looking to see all of the old wood, trusses and sheet metal and how it was incorporated in to the new building. While we were there we also looked at a number of the bikes and soon she came to the Sportster. Lance, whom we were chatting with as we looked, suggested that she sit on one (not what you normally want to do in a skirt). That was it! She loved the weight, height and especially and narrow profile of the engine and fuel tank. So, last Saturday, we went back to Timpanogos Harley and purchased a gently used 2008 Harley Sportster Custom. Can you see the smile in the pics? http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/IMG_0024.jpg The bike is 1200 cc, V-Twin, fuel injected, belt driven. It also has a custom paint color that changes depending on the light, windscreen and sissy bar (on order). We plan on adding a JMCB-2300 CB radio so that we can communicate on trips. She says that she doubts she be on the back of my bike much any more. When we left the dealership, we got on the freeway to go home, Jan on the bike and me in the car. After we got on the on ramp, I looked up to see tail lights at the top of the ramp and me at the bottom. I don't think she'll have any problems keeping up. http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/IMG_0022-1.jpg
  6. Drove my truck to work this morning. When i stepped out of my truck I saw a guy standing next to a car wearing a motorcycle jacket and holding a helmet. Or so I thought, I looked again and he was just wearing a regular wind-breaker and holding a bag. Spring better get here soon. I need to go riding.
  7. I know that last year your lawn looked like a KOA campground, are you going to allow us econmizers to do that again.........Looking forward to making this one.
  8. I had to share this. It touched my heart so much and am so thankful for all the men and women who serve our country. I am proud to be an American. "I just wanted to get the day over with and go down to Smokey's. Sneaking a look at my watch, I saw the time, 1655. Five minutes to go before the cemetery gates are closed for the day. Full dress was hot in the August sun. Oklahoma summertime was as bad as ever--the heat and humidity at the same level--both too high. I saw the car pull into the drive, '69 or '70 model Cadillac Deville, looked factory-new. It pulled into the parking lot at a snail's pace. An old woman got out so slow I thought she was paralyzed; she had a cane and a sheaf of flowers--about four or five bunches as best I could tell. I couldn't help myself. The thought came unwanted, and left a slightly bitter taste: 'She's going to spend an hour, and for this old soldier, my hip hurts like hell and I'm ready to get out of here right now!' But for this day, my duty was to assist anyone coming in. Kevin would lock the 'In' gate and if I could hurry the old biddy along, we might make it to Smokey's in time. I broke post attention. My hip made gritty noises when I took the first step and the pain went up a notch. I must have made a real military sight: middle-aged man with a small pot gut and half a limp, in marine full-dress uniform, which had lost its razor crease about thirty minutes after I began the watch at the cemetery. I stopped in front of her, halfway up the walk. She looked up at me with an old woman's squint. 'Ma'am, may I assist you in any way? She took long enough to answer. 'Yes, son. Can you carry these flowers? I seem to be moving a tad slow these days.' 'My pleasure, ma'am.' Well, it wasn't too much of a lie. She looked again. 'Marine, where were you stationed?' ' Vietnam , ma'am. Ground-pounder. '69 to '71.' She looked at me closer. 'Wounded in action, I see. Well done, Marine. I'll be as quick as I can.' I lied a little bigger: 'No hurry, ma'am.' She smiled and winked at me. 'Son, I'm 85-years-old and I can tell a lie from a long way off. Let's get this done. Might be the last time I can do this. My name's Joanne Wieserman, and I've got a few Marines I'd like to see one more time.' 'Yes, ma 'am. At your service.' She headed for the World War I section, stopping at a stone. She picked one of the flowers out of my arm and laid it on top of the stone. She murmured something I couldn't quite make out. The name on the marble was Donald S. Davidson, USMC: France 1918. She turned away and made a straight line for the World War II section, stopping at one stone. I saw a tear slowly tracking its way down her cheek. She put a bunch on a stone; the name was Stephen X.Davidson, USMC, 1943. She went up the row a ways and laid another bunch on a stone, Stanley J. Wieserman, USMC, 1944. She paused for a second. 'Two more, son, and we'll be done' I almost didn't say anything, but, 'Yes, ma'am. Take your time.' She looked confused. 'Where's the Vietnam section, son? I seem to have lost my way.' I pointed with my chin. 'That way, ma'am.' 'Oh!' she chuckled quietly. 'Son, me and old age ain't too friendly.' She headed down the walk I'd pointed at. She stopped at a couple of stones before she found the ones she wanted. She placed a bunch on Larry Wieserman, USMC, 1968, and the last on Darrel Wieserman, USMC, 1970. She stood there and murmured a few words I still couldn't make out. 'OK, son, I'm finished. Get me back to my car and you can go home.' Yes, ma'am. If I may ask, were those your kinfolk?' She paused. 'Yes, Donald Davidson was my father, Stephen was my uncle, Stanleywas my husband, Larry and Darrel were our sons. All killed in action, all marines.' She stopped. Whether she had finished, or couldn't finish, I don't know. She made her way to her car, slowly and painfully. I waited for a polite distance to come between us and then double-timed it over to Kevin, waiting by the car. 'Get to the 'Out' gate quick. I have something I've got to do.' Kevin started to say something, but saw the look I gave him. He broke the rules to get us there down the service road. We beat her. She hadn't made it around the rotunda yet. 'Kevin, stand at attention next to the gatepost. Follow my lead.' I humped it across the drive to the other post. When the Cadillac came puttering around from the hedges and began the short straight traverse to the gate, I called in my best gunny's voice: 'TehenHut! Present Haaaarms!' I have to hand it to Kevin; he never blinked an eye--full dress attention and a salute that would make his DI proud. She drove through that gate with two old worn-out soldiers giving her a send-off she deserved, for service rendered to her country, and for knowing duty, honor and sacrifice. I am not sure, but I think I saw a salute returned from that Cadillac. Instead of 'The End,' just think of 'Taps.' As a final thought on my part, let me share a favorite prayer: 'Lord, keep our servicemen and women safe, whether they serve at home or overseas. Hold them in your loving hands and protect them as they protect us.' Let's all keep those currently serving and those who have gone before in our thoughts. They are the reason for the many freedoms we enjoy. 'In God We Trust.' Sorry about your monitor; it made mine blurry too! If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under!
  9. 95 RSV stock tire 150/80 hr 16 Time for a replacement soon....trouble is I remember reading awhile ago about people using a different sized tire up front. I have looked to no avail. Any recollection? Much appreciated:think:
  10. :crying:The 2009 V-max up here Retails $21,999 CDN plus 13% Taxes Went to see it The pictures looked better than what the bike actually is
  11. Went fo a good long day ride today and pulled into a station to fill up. As I was coming up to the station, I looked up at the markee and the price for reg was $3.11. That was better than I had been paying so I was happy. When I stuck my debit card in, I noticed reg was $2.98. I looked up on the markee again and it was now $2.98. Later on in the evening on the way back, I looked at the same markee again and it was now $2.82. That's nineteen cents in one day with at least two changes. Sure glad I did not buy a bunch of gas futures. Anyone want to make a guess where it will bottom at? I seen on gasbuddy.com where it was $2.39 in Oklahoma. I filled up in Asheville, NC at $3.11 and in the next block it was $3.79. We saw several stations in Asheville at $3.60 and up. RandyA
  12. This morning on the Highway , I looked over to my left and there was a Woman In a brand new Cadillac Doing 90 km-per hour With her Face up next t o her Rear view mirror Putting on her eyeliner. I looked away For a couple seconds, and when I looked back she was Halfway over in my lane, Still working on that makeup. As a man, I don't scare easily. But she scared me so much; I dropped My electric shaver , Which knocked The donut Out of my other hand. In all The confusion of trying To straighten out the car Using my knees against The steering wheel, It knocked My cell phone Away from my ear Which fell Into the coffee Between my legs, Splashed, And burned Big Jim and the Twins, Ruined the darn phone, Soaked my trousers, And disconnected an Important call. Stupid women drivers

    Decals

Anybody know where I can get hold of a Star decal for the back window of my truck? Yamaha used to make a large bumper sticker that said "Star Motorcycles". I have looked everywhere but can not find anything. I would like to have a fairly large one that can be seen from a distance. Any help would be appreciated.
  14. New here, so not sure where is the best place to post this. I have an '09 RSV and am wondering how to rotate the attena so that I can lay it down. One is okay, the other is pointed towards the truck if you try to lay it down. I looked at it andf it appears that there are 3 differnet junctions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. I saw on here somewhere once a seat cover that someone had stitched together from a few Mallwart sheepskin wash mitts. There was a picture that showed the underside and how it was stitched together. I've looked and looked and I can't find it now. Does anyone know who made this or happen to have snagged the picture? I'd like to see it again.
  16. we had our first snowfall last night, ground's white, and it's still coming down. Even my Virago looked depressed this morning. It's gonna be a lonnnnnnnnng winter!
  17. I was putting things back together and saw this rubber boot on the ground... I've been in the left radio compartment, in and around the steering head, under and over the carbs and fuel pump and didn't see it ON something or see anything that looked like it needed it. Ok guys, where does it go... (1 1/4"L X 1"W X 3/8" high) http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/huh.jpg
  18. I finally finished my fence. It only took me since May until today to get all of it put up. Of course I started three years ago when I drilled the holes and started putting posts in the ground. My neighbors have never looked so good as they do now. I have some trim work to do on the top of the posts and landscaping along the bottom to do, but that won't happen until spring.

last couple of weeks been having a bit of a snag with my 86, comming home from work i had lost a couple of cylenders as if it was wet, thinking that it could be coils or cti box, well i had got put new plugs in, thinking that a couple of them would be wet or carboned, and i hadn't put new pugs in her for years so i'd done it, the old ones looked good and on the left side the plugs looked good, but you could see a light coating of mixture on them from not fireing recently, put the newones in and fired it up ran good, shut it down for a few minutes to put covers on, then fired it up again and had the same miss on a cylender, #1, now i can fire it up and sounds rough, but fires on all 4 put a few miles on it and then it idels rough, just about sounds like it is just a tad late, can this happen, cause the original trip home from work where i had lost 2 of them, one would kick in periodicaly and fire for a bit then die out, then cut back in, this is why i am thinking coils or cti box, doing this there is a possability that i could have blown some carbon loose on my exhoust ststem, which would cause it to sound different, but i just haven't convinced myself that that is what i am hearing, because on the end of the tail pipe, it just sounds like it is firing on a partial open exhaust, fuel mileage isn't much different than normal, and the power is simular also,
  20. OK, 1985 Venture Royale, 46,000 miles Battery level lcd always shows indication and red light flashes. I have tried the resister (1.1 and 2.2), taken the dash apart and checked all solder connections on the first board, cleand all connectors. Still shows indication. All other lcd indicators function properly. The only thing that I noticed on the board was that the solder for a black transister looked a little funky, all others looked good. I resoldered the connection to board joints anyways to ensure that thy were good. Ideas?
  21. ok, need some help here.. I installed my R/K`s last Sat. and took them back off in about 10 min.... hated the way they fit.. sounded good but looked like some rigged %$#@... 22. Well here I was walking around looking at all the bikes waiting for my RSV to be serviced at RJ Performance in Ottumwa Iowa. I have been taking my bikes there for years and they do a good job for me. I was on my phone talking to a friend and laughing about this (George Jetson) looking type of bike "Victory Vision" with bags , trunk, radio cool windshield that adjusts as you want. When the owner came by and ask if he could help me. I said I was waiting for my bike to get done and was just looking at this odd looking bike, he said OK, get on. He said he gets that a lot but the best way to tell me is for me to ride it. That was about all he said. I was like well........But decided what the heck I had nothing to loose other than someone seeing me. LOL Well I took off and WOW, 870 plus pounds and you would think it was a 250 trials bike. It looked long and I thought "OK corner coming up in a 100 feet better start turning". LOL This thing is so easy to turn, perfect balance and POWER at all ranges! I came back after 30 miles and was very impressed! (I swear, I think I could do about anything with it first time out.) The gas tank is in two 3 gal pods between the forks and the frame along with the battery. Must be what gives it such a low center of balance? The seat looked hard compared to my pillow top RSV but not so....After the first 15 minuets I thought "this is comfy" and talk about a smooooth ride (air). It handles VERY, VERY good. Dealer showed me the DINO it said 92hp and 72hp at the wheel and 106 foot pounds of torque "if I remember right". The wind shield,, oh yah I like the windshield! I started the ride with it all the way down as far as it would go then as riding found the perfect spot for me! All in all not bad,,,,,,not bad at all. You just got to get over that "jettson" image and of course you got to be old enough to know what the Jettsons were! LOL
  23. Hi all, Does anyone have a fuse holder for the accessory fuse, my one's snapped, it the small white red wire that screws into the fuse box. I've looked for new holders, crimping type but can't find any.
  24. Well I finally seen one today. Bright Yellow Cam-Am trike, boy was this thing ugly but yet kinda neat set up. Trike on the front sure did make it look funny, Had a man & woman riding it. As for the woman - looked like she was hanging on for dear life the back half has small setting for a passenger. And the man looked like he was trying to drive it in a straight line looked like he was all over the road. Peg & I drove by on our Gold Wing and said hi but the guy acted like it was trying to get away from him so he never waved as for the woman she tried to wave but could not due to the way the trike was running. Think I'll stick to the Venture & Gold Wing...
  25. Anyone have the adjustable lower vents on their bike, was wondering if they are worth the money, and what they looked like after install (pictures) thanks:puzzled:
