  1. Has anyone seen the sport uhaul trailer? Saw one today, looks like it would make a good motorcycle trailer. It had alot of tail lights and a fairly long tounge. tew47
  2. I'm a newby so be gentle on me. I was riding my 99RSV home the other day (I've had it a week) and I was in the inside lane of a busy road and suddenly everything went dead. No lights no radio, no speedo etc. I managed to get into the susicide lane and stop at a light where there was no left and when the light change I pushed it to the sidewalk. I checked the Key the fuses and checked to determine what all was off. I had no headlight no trip meter, gas guage driving lights etc and therefore the bike would not start or run. Now I have not been putting my battery on a charger as it all seemed ok and I was riding it almiost every day. I was however running with full lights including the extra running lights on the front. Well I called a Tow truck and after about 20 minutes I rechecked my bike and I again had power. I was only 6 miles from home so I cancelled the tow and rode it home with the front running lights off. It was here that I became confused. If this was a short why could I now run the bike and if it was a battery issue why also. Another thing I do not understand is that now the emergency flashing lights are on and I don't know how they turned on or how to turn them off. I don't have the service manual yet (its ordered) so I am not sure what to check out or replace. I believe its a battery issue due to me not using the tender and running the extra running lights up front. PErhaps I shoud ditch the battery for a new one and use the tender on a regular basis since I do not know how old the battery is. What do you think? Replace the battery or look for other issues? How do I turn on and off the emergency flashers? Should I take the bike to the shop and have it checked out? IT seemed to be running excellent and this 99 doesn't even have any scratches nor did it have any blemishes anywhere. It looks a lot newer than its age. IF I take it to a shop what do I tell them to check out? Your assistance and input will be greatly appreciated. JB:Venture:
  3. Will passing lights from a Harley Davidson fit on a 2nd Gen Venture? If not, where's the best place to get passing lights? I've checked South Seattle Yamaha Sports Plex and the don't have them on their web site. Thanx, Glenn
  4. As my dad says, "Anything is easy if you know what you are doing" Well I don't and the bike won't start. Here is the symptoms. The battery is okay. The lights and dash look good when the key is turned on. Lights and dash go off as they should when I hit the starter button but nothing else happens. Bike does not turn over or even try. I've got several guesses but I've already shown my ignorance. What should I look for? Iowa Guy
  5. Today when I left home I got to the corner and noticed I didn't have a speedo or odememter. Stopped and checked all the lights and they were on as was the overdrive and cruise lights, so since I had a GPS I went on. On the way I stopped for gas when I started it back up everything was working again. Later in the day when I started it kind of paused, then started, but the odemeter and cloce and been reset. Any ideas
  6. Hey, I recently purchased my 08 RSTD and I would like to add some extra brake lights to the bike. The problem is I cant really decide where or what kind I want to go with. I have the wrap around saddle bag guards on the bike. If you could please give me some suggestions and pics of what you have done if you have them. Also has anyone installed a headlight pulsator on there RSTD would like to know how well that works. Thanks to all!
  7. I need to know how many of you have gotten the Higher Output Stator and what you think of it?? Is 55 watts enough for allot of lights?? As we all know the VENTURES is not enough. I want to add some more lights and with pulling the trailer I know I will be under powered on the stator. I just keep adding more stuff more:mo money: on my favorite VENTURE................Ron
  8. I've owned the '91 for a while now, and while messing around with it a couple of days ago, I found that the driving lights have a hi/lo beam wired into them. Kinda cool. I'd really never taken the time to find out what the unlabled switches actually do as two of them are disconnected at the switch .. but the top 3-position switch controls the driving lights. The other two, I suspect, control the trailer lighting as it's wired for both 4way and 5way plugs on the transom.... I haven't checked the bulbs out... they look like a standard aftermarket chrome rectangle driving/fog light... and I wonder if it's just the bulb??

    Trunk Running Lights

I have a '92 VR. Has anyone encountered problems with the trunk running lights blowing bulbs or the bulb sockets not making connection with the bulbs. All the bulbs in mine were working, when suddenly, I had one working on the righthand side. Once I figured-out how to remove the &^%$ thing (What a stupid design!), I found two bulbs had turned black. I kept swapping the remaining two around until they worked in the outer sockets; however, I could not get either one to work in the center two sockets. Has anyone encountered this or a similar problem? If so, what is a good fix for it? Thanks, Randy
  10. Hi, I just bought a 1987 venture royale and have no head light or dash lights the dash instuments work. Checked fuse, bulb, any help? Thanks Chet.
  11. Anyone with a 2nd gen who has installed the driving lights still have the turn signal they took off? I'm going to remove the driving lights and I need a turn signal bar to put in it's place. Thanks.
  12. As a seasoned professional truck driver, I've seen and welcomed the arrival of LED running and tail lights on our equipment. I immediately noticed that they are much easier to see, even if the lense is dirty. So, I got to wondering if I couldn't swap out some of the running lights on my VR with some of these LED running lights. The only drawback I've seen so far is that the LED truck running lights aren't as stylish as the original equipment, but they ought to be easily more visible. I've got one light mounted, but haven't tested it yet due to fears that I may put too much of a strain on my stator. Have any of you good folks experimented with this? Have you tried replacing this? http://i32.tinypic.com/2vv9ge0.png With this? http://i27.tinypic.com/m8gok2.jpg
  13. Here is a question for all the electrical engineers we have on the site. Since I am having trouble locating a trailer isolator to tow the trailer I just got with independent turn signals and brake lights at a somewhat reasonable cost, would it be possible to just hard wire individual diodes into each wire to protect the bike from shorts that could occur in the trailer? The trailer lights would still power from the original bike lighting but, would this not protect it from a back-feed situation blowing fuses on the bike? Since I have no idea what amperage standard 1156 and 1157 bulbs pull, I would need to know what diodes to use that would accommodate the 12 Volts and the amperage draw but, I don't see why it would not work. I know many have just hard wired their trailers straight but, I suppose I am the cautious type. Diodes would be cheap insurance I believe and they cost little at Radio Shack. I thought about just installing them in-line and covering with heat-shrink. Perhaps installing them into a very small project box would be better. What do you all think? Dog
  14. if anyone is looking or interested we are going to sell our trailer. We never use it and want to put the money towards a camper. Im going to list it on ebay tonight.......but if anyone from here wants it , they get first dibbs, Id even stop the auction for you ... its a 1998 Starlight...... maybe about 125 lbs..i can move it around easily. The frame was sandblasted and heavy duty primed and then painted 3 yrs ago.....the tub was removed and repainted...a cpl years ago we revarnished the wood rails on the top. Has a spare..tires are in good condition...all lights work, all the lights u see in pics are lights, none are reflectors...has bearing buddys on wheels. looks wet in the picture cause it is...... I sprayed it off as it was dusty from the garage Can send more pics if anyones wants. there is a small scratch on the spoiler
  15. At my wits end, I had an issue a while back with a short in an aux light. The stainless steel brake line rubbed thru the insulation and shorted out, blowing the "signal" fuse. I corrected the problem and repaired /replaced the wire. I removed the wiringbut left the lights in place to be rewired maybe in the fall. Out of the clear blue, the fuse starts blowing again, taking out the brake lights ,dash and turn signals. It would happen coming to a stop or sitting with the brakes on. I checked the brake wiring. I thought I had it down to the brake light switch. I disconnected one and drove it and then disconnected the other. The fuse, number 9 so-far, held. I started the bike and began to back out of the garage. With no brake applied, the fuse blew and the bike stopped running. It would restart and run. Any thoughts?? joe
  16. Riddle me this batman: is it the battery or an electrical short somewhere? Well kids, life's been good...haven't ridden the bike in a couple days until yesterday, noon. hopped on Trigger, turned on the ignition, head lights turned on, neutral lit up green, hit the start button, the engine rolled over for a few seconds, but no start. So I hit the start button again, but this time, the engine barely turned and the lights went out. Oh #$%^! Must have blow a fuse. well needless to say the fuses are all good, but the ignition is dead. So I walked away from her for an hour or so, came back and now the lights once again work so i hit the start button only to hear...tick tick tick tick followed by the familiar power death. It sounded like what i believe to be the solenoid ticking? Checking the battery, my meter stated that it had 12.8 volts with 3.8 amps...for what it's worth. Next i pulled the battery and let it charge for a hour and gave it another try...same results. Followed by the "well let's try jump starting it" which worked! ... but, i noticed that the green neutral light (as well as the headlight) was flickering. I didn't like that so i shut her down. and finally, I got little Bro to cough up the battery out of his bike and Mikey Moused it into mine...hit the button and VROOM VROOM! it's alive, it's alive it tell you! Trigger was purring along like nothing ever happened. Lights were stable and bright and the engine was idling nicely. So off to Wal-mart i go and can you believe it. Of the 6 or so batteries on the shelf, one was exactly what i needed...though it set me back $78 bucks, i was still rather happy. Unfortunately though, the new battery required an initial charge, so I'll have to do my [hopefully] final test in the morning [soon]. Now with that said, here are my observations: 1. if it was the battery, which i truly hope to be the case, it never showed any signs or symptoms of the impending doom. Lighting didn't change with engine speed, the starter didn't appear to drag or lug while starting, etc. Just BOOM, dead in the water. Another note, which i find rather hard to believe, is that the battery is a Yuasa brand. Which leads me to believe that it may be the original battery. That would be an 11 year old battery with 19K of miles on it...is that possible? [i'm the second owner] Anyway, i was just curious if anyone else has had this issue before. KARMA: the glass being half full here...i was suppose to leave for a big ride today. And yes i'm disappointed not to go, but i would have been REALLY disappointed, had Trigger died on me out there...
  17. I have been trying to install the Modulite trailer lighting module tonight and am having a problem. I have followed the instructions in the tech area and am sure that I have all the wires correct. Problem is when I connect the last wire..........brown (tail) from the modultie to the blue on the bikes harness.................... not only do i not get lights on the trailer, I also loose my light bars. Any thoughts on what might be causing this??????????? I would really like to finish this tonight and put the bike back together.
  18. I have a small problem with my trailer wireing. my lights all work -the turn and brake lights all work, but when I have the turn signal on, the brake lite over rides the turn signal on the trailer.I am just wondering what's up with that???? :confused24:
  19. Does anyone know if the factory running lights on the venture (sealed beam) can be updated to a brighter light? I know the halogen can, but the sealed beams are 25 W and i would like to have something brighter... :confused24:
  20. I just purchased a Signal Dynamics light bar for the back of my scoot. http://signaldynamics.com/products/LightBars/red15ulb_sm.jpg So, where do you wire it into the brake/running lights? Thanks, Bob
  21. Well this morning I got everything ready for my 60 mile commute to work, fired the bike up everything fine. Rolled it back out of the garage and as I turned the front wheel to the left to get around the wife's SUV the lights ALL went out. No headlight, running lights or dash lights. Engine still running, radio playing too. My first thought is a blown fuse due to a short caused by a crimp in the lighting wires from when I put the driving light spacer in before I left for Don's. Everything worked great all weekend, but I'm thinking it must have cut through the wires because of the hard crank to the left to get it out this morning. Does this sound like a reasonable place to start? Any other ideas? Thanks, Jay
  22. I know this is kinda late before Don's maintenance day, but just thought I'd check while making plans on what to bring: I'm just riding up for the heck of it - nothing I really need, so I am available to help with anything. I know Don has a tire changing machine, so let me know if anyone wants to change tires there so I can bring some balance weights, rim protectors, etc. Windshield mods? I will bring my hole saw - if anyone wants to put in a set of pop vents you have time to order them for delivery to Don's if you do it NOW. Get them from Aircraftspruce.com. I think I have one set of vents I can bring with me. I can also help with cutting down a shield if anyone is interested. I'll bring a hollow-ground blade and hope Don has a jig saw. LED lights (engine highlights, extra brake or signal lights, etc.)? Order them now from JCW or superbrightleds.com for delivery to Don's and they will be there by the weekend. Superbrightleds normally gets stuff here in three days, and JC Whitney is almost a quick for many things. If somebody will tell me what they intend to do with lights I can make sure I have whatever wires, fuses and relays might be necessary. But be quick, I plan on leaving here Wednesday morning, as I gotta run through North Carolina on my way up there to pick up new pipes. Gauges - these are a little trickier, since the problem includes deciding how and where you want to mount them. But I can pick up the 1 7/8" white ones I used on my 07 here, or you can order the black ones from JCW now. Even if we cannot complete mounting them in one day, I can show you how to set everything up - it is quite easy. Mounting air horns, making extensions for the light bar mounting spacers, changing bolts for trunk rack, etc. Most of these are easy, but do require buying a few parts (like bolts) ahead of time. If you tell me what you want, I'll see if I can bring the necessary stuff with me. Don't know if anyone is interested in these offers, but thought it couldn't hurt to ask. Ride safe and see you in a week, Goose
  23. today on the way to work the bike delveloped a hesitation in 4th and 5th gear. shortly after that I noticed the lights flickering. after turning off highbeams, cruise, radio, and not using turn signals the hestation stopped but the dash lights(idiot lights) are still dim and the headlight/running lights are still flickering. anybody got clues? 62 miles is a long way to push the critter home.
  24. Sorry I haven't updated you lately. Since I cleaned the tank, filter, and carbs, my bike is running good. Still not the best, I know I can do better. However, I do have a curious question. Every once in a while, it will just lug and die. Kind of like it runs out of gas. but then after about 2 minutes, it starts right back up. ALSO, there are times that my lights dim really bad at low rpm but brighten right back up when I rev to about 1500 rpm. any ideas? Thanks Merlin
  25. I just installed my new passing lamps on my 99 RSV. I love how they look, but since they have been on the bike I have had nothing but problems with the lighting. First I blew a fuse while trying to adjust the angle of the passing lamps. (my fault, shorted one wire) Fixed that, then I Took it to Meijer to get ice cream and try out the new lights. (loved them really an improvement) But when I came out of Meijer, I had no lights at all, no running lights, no headlight, no taillight, no passing lamps. I did however have a brake light. I'm pretty sure I blew a main fuse, but i'm not sure why. All of the parts are genuine Yamaha and wired as Yamaha recommends, which i'm not sure I like since I have to pull the fairing off every time I blow a fuse. Has anyone else run into this before? Or is anyone better at electrical then I am and can recommend me to check something that may cause this? ANY INFO IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE frusterated Big Mike:confused24:
