  1. Well, Sheet happens (Yeah, but why to me???). Monday morning, back from Chicago week trip, so as every day run my bike to job. Perfect stability, with the bigger winshield I got almost 90 mph with no vibration at all. I was amazed about it. Now, on a stupid main street, at almost 20 mph a lady talking on the cell & driving cross a wet street without looking at the both sides (I was coming north on the main street). As soon as I press the brake handle (Of course I should use the rear brake first, but my hands where faster than my right foot), the rear side of the bike was faster than the front wheel, and of course on a slipper street I went down. On me, only a broken pant, a burn on my knee, and that was all. On the bike, my front left turning light got the ring broken, the passing lamp got the ring out, both visors are OK, and the internal bolt that holds both lamps on the mounting passing lamps got broken at the middle of the hollow thread, and some new scratches on the side of the new winshield that already come scratched (See my Excelent Condition thread...) I believe the worst part was when I went to the dealer to get new parts: No replacements, I need to get a full kit of everything.... As the passing lamp mounting braket only got a little smashed, I think that I can fix it and will be impossible to notice, except with a magnifier trying to access between the two lamps. The passing lamp ring is only with a few scratches but seems that something is missing as the small with the nut that hold it, seems easy to open. Conclusion: Do somebody has a ring for the passing lamp and a ring for the turn light to sell, and may be the bolt that links both lamps? I forget this is for a 1997 Royal Star. I don't need to replace all since there where minor stuffs. No, still don't need a new knee. Thanks
  2. I just installed my new passing lamps on my 99 RSV. I love how they look, but since they have been on the bike I have had nothing but problems with the lighting. First I blew a fuse while trying to adjust the angle of the passing lamps. (my fault, shorted one wire) Fixed that, then I Took it to Meijer to get ice cream and try out the new lights. (loved them really an improvement) But when I came out of Meijer, I had no lights at all, no running lights, no headlight, no taillight, no passing lamps. I did however have a brake light. I'm pretty sure I blew a main fuse, but i'm not sure why. All of the parts are genuine Yamaha and wired as Yamaha recommends, which i'm not sure I like since I have to pull the fairing off every time I blow a fuse. Has anyone else run into this before? Or is anyone better at electrical then I am and can recommend me to check something that may cause this? ANY INFO IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE frusterated Big Mike:confused24:
  3. Brackets arrived from Squid and now I can't choose lights..My nomad had 55 watt "spots" made by Harley mounted up above center line of headlight which threw the light out well ahead and easily adjustable due to height. Now with the lower mounting position on the 87' and I am sure alot less adjustment angle, would I be farther ahead to use a Amber/clear "fog lamps"? Are you using using fog lamps or spotlights? Pro's --Con's ? 35 watt seems to me to be the choice for the charging system.. Thanks in advance Dave
  4. Well I have a list for sure on maintance day unless I can get some help from around here soon so I can ride with all my goodies. 1. Install tach on master cyclinder and wire up 2. Install luggage rack 3. Hard wire satalite radio 4. Install GPS 5. Install passing lamps 6. Put on highway pegs 7. Install brake pads 8. Rear harley license plate light I am not savey on this stuff so I need all the help I can get. I can learn though.
  5. I want a brighter light for my 99 it looks as if the stock is sealed beam? What options are there that won't look to different then the passing lamps. I just want a whiter beam.
  6. I just bought my 02 RSV this past December. I am trying to remove the headlamp visor that was installed by the previous owner. Will I have to split the fairing to get to it? My second question is regarding the passing lamps. I have been reviewing this site for the best alternative in making the lights brighter. When I opened the chrome pieces to remove the visors from the passing lamps, the whole bulb/light came out-attached by two wires that are screwed to the back of the passing lamp housing. I don't know whether these passing lamps are OEM or aftermarket. It looks as if I can't replace just the bulb without replacing the whole unit that fits inside of the passing lamp housing. Is there any one that knows a site that sells the whole unit for brighter lighting. I don't think just a H3 bulb will work. Thanks for listening! Cubby
  7. Can anyone tell me how much trouble it is to install the road lamps on a 05 Vennture and is the wiring set up to just plug into exsisting harness. Thanks Big Ed
  8. About a month ago I go out to get on the bike and my speedometer does not work. No gas gauge or anything. No problem, pull the fuse and tested it. No, the fuse is good, but just for the heck of it I replaced it anyway. Speedometer works! No problem. Noticed a week or so ago that the cruise control does not work. Not a real issue, because I rarely use it. When I leave the office this afternoon, my passing lamps don't work. So I pull the fuses from the fuse box and test all of them. They all test ok, but I replace them anyway and the passing lamps now work. I don't know if the cruise works yet, but I would bet that it does. Any Ideas? I use a multimeter to test and I know it works. On a related issue. The plastic screw that holds the bottom of the lower farings together seems to be striped or something. I could not get it loose. Any problems with drilling this thing out?
  9. I hooked up my passing lamps today. Found the wiring diagram here on this site, followed it, now here is what I have. With the lamps turned on, right turn signal works fine. Turn on the left turn signal, both turn signals and headlight flash and the radio goes dead. I have gone over the wiring to make sure everything is hooked up according to the instructions that I have, but still the same thing happens. I have my power from the battery through a fused wire to a relay, from the relay I ran another wire to a seperate switch, from the relay another wire powered by ignition. Any ideas guys, sure could use some. Thanks.
  10. Help! I am installing the RSTD passing lamps and bracket from Yamaha onto my 2006 RSTD. On the old turn-signal bracket, there is a threaded boss that is used to attach the bottom headlight mount screw. But, on the replacement piece that holds both turn signals and passing lamps, there is nothing for the bottom of the headlight to screw to! So it's just hanging and kinda flopping around on the two top screws and their fairly spongy rubber mounts. Has anyone already made up a bracket to fill this gap? Have a picture? I am not a fabricating sort of a guy...... Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Bob LeDuc
  11. Does any one know if the halogen passing lamps for the RSTD will fit the RSV light bar?I am planning to buy a light bar,but would rather have the halogen lamps, if they will fit.The part # is STR-4NK35-10-01.By the way, the best price I have found for accessories is MotorsportsSupercenter.com in Hamilton,AL.They actually have 2 different websites. The other one is MotorsportsSuperstore.com.The cost is a little more, but it offers $5.95 shipping on all orders over $50 in USA. Just check both sites to get best overall price with shipping.
  12. Can anyone tell me where the wires for the passing lamps on the RSTD is? I did them on my Venture and I am gonna help a buddy put them on his. He is yet to get on here yet. He is not all that handy so Im gonna assist. Where do you make the connections and what else do I need to know?
  13. Ok I have searched this and read many threads about our issue. I know our system def needs to get an upgrade but there has been some head aches getting a new stator made. So, Is there anyone that is running a trailer with all LEDS, a Garmin streetpilot 2720, XM radio, CB radio, yam passing lamps, yam tail wing with led, all stock bulbs in other lights, and heated gloves (firstgear, warm & safe)? I would most likely turn off the passing lamps during the day but at night def will be running them. If there is, have you had any problems running highways? Thanks for the help everyone. I def love this forum always full of great info. TheKid
  14. I just ordered Passing Lamps from Yamaha along with the cool little Visors. Is this something that is difficult to install myself or should I take it to the shop? Do we have a tech article on this? http://images.motorsportdealers.com/common/MediaLibrary/CatalogImages/62/250/7439fa007.jpg http://images.motorsportdealers.com/common/MediaLibrary/CatalogImages/62/250/73599698a.jpg
  15. Everybody knows Venture's Chargin system is just not enough for all Accessories and heated clothing, so every Watt count. Thats one of reasons I Didn't install Passing Lamps on my Venture. Well here is Cure. Found This very usefull site with direct replacement LED lights for most daylight passing lamps. They make all kind of LED Bulbs with H3, H4 , H7 and H11 base. They have very resonable prices too. Well Check Out By Yourself. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR Good Luck.
  16. I just purchased and installed H7616 passing lamps on my bike. I like the clean look of the clear lenses but they don't look right with the stock headlight. I have searched for a headlight (sealed beam) with a clear lens but can't find one. Does anyone know of one? I know if I find one I have to break out the original one and goop in the new. That is not a problem.
  17. Hey Guys: Have a Silver 05 RSV, put the star passing lamps on and after a year or so I still don't really like them. I was thinking of putting the Kuryakyn Large bullet lights on the front fender struts. Has anyone done this and how do they feel about them over the "stock" passing lamps? Sponge Bob
  18. A long time ago, in the days of B.C. (before crash), there was a thread with this title. I had bookmarked it, but post crash now it's gone. IIRC the information, someone had described how he put regular headlights in the passing lamps housings that had both high and low beams to them. I would really like to find this information again, especially what lamps were used and where to find them. Anybody have any information on this?
  19. Has anyone here installed Yamaha’s Tri Bar headlight on a 2nd Gen venture? If so do you like it? Can you change the bulb without splitting the faring? Any brighter? What about the Tri Bar passing lamps, are they much better then the stock driving lamps (guess it wouldn’t take much to beat them)? Wondering??
  20. The Yamaha passing lamps were already installed on the 05 venture I purchased. I have some questions still after reading previous posts. 1. The lamps have a toggle switch to kill them completely if desired but are on when the high beam light is on and off when low beam is on. My mechanic just told me that this was illegal in VA. Do you run the passing lamps at the same time as the high beam? or Should I rewire them? 2. One of bulbs is burnt out, what is the best replacement bulb? Is there one brighter than stock and where is the best place to get them? Also, is there a brighter alternative to the headlight bulb while I'm at it? 3. Where can I find a spacer for the passing lamps to get them out from the fairing? I followed a link in a previous post and it said none were available via the classifieds. Thanks
  21. Hi Guys: Hope all is well with you and your RSV. There was a fella here, who made a spacer for the light bar (passing lamps) for Second Gen bikes. Is he still here? How do I contact? Silly question: Has anybody inverted the lights on the passing lamp bar? Put the directional signal on top and the passing lamps below. I was thinking about it, was wondering if any one had done it. Sponge Bob:confused24:
  22. Ok, New bike, new world of differents issues, of course I prefer these new problems than the olders. Situation: Get the Star4772 (Joe) 1997 royal star (6300 miles), it comes with mounting passing lamps bar (No passing lamps), wind deflectors hardware (No deflectors included) and installed leather saddlebags and non installed plastic saddlebags. After digging around, got the missing parts: Deflectors, Passing Lamps Not the big deal, now apart from pay the 88$ for the dealer installation someone knows how to align the passing lamps. It seems impossible to relocate the lamps one you mount both the lamp and the turning light on each side. The beam is lighting the floor around 7 to 9 feets on front of the bike. Suggestions???? (Please nothing related to put 88$ on a dealer...)
  23. As near as I can gather from threads here, I can use a H7616 bulb to replace the poor bulbs that came in my Yamaha passing lamps. Also if I understand correctly, I see some refere to this bulb as a H3 -- but it is not halogen, right? Bottom line -- I can't find the H7616 at JP cycles. Anyone got another source suggestion? Many thnx, DREBBIN
  24. One of my passing lamps burned out. Does any one have suggestions as to a good brand replacement and where to buy? The ones I have are el-cheapo lamps. Not very bright. I would like them a bit brighter.
  25. For the 1st Genners who have either the illuminated trunk reflector or the illuminated trunk guard.......... if you are looking to replace the incandescent lamps with LED lamps, Superbright has the 5 LED (194) wedge base lamps. They are selling for $2.99 each. I just replaced the incandescent lamps in my trunk guard with the 5 LED Red lamps and I am now getting twice the amount of light. Will be replacing the lamps in the righted trunk bar next. The LED lamps can be ordered at www.superbrightleds.com Well worth the nominal investment IMHO.
