  1. My oldest son, Jared and his wife Crystal got married this weekend. They had an outdoor ceremony at the lake. It's been a wonderful, but busy weekend. Here are a few pics...
  2. Finally got a warm, sunny, weekend day so out we went on the scoot, headed for Harrison Lake for a picnic. pics ---> http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150278578082394.376333.705412393&saved - OR ---> http://s393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/First%20Warm%20Day%20of%202011/
  3. Getting ready for my 3700 mile trip at the end of June so I wanted to test a few new add ons. Put a new XL F4 Custom windshield with vent, and it works great. Left Salt Lake City headed to Las Vegas(425 miles) and it was 36 degrees Monday with a touch of snow on the ground. Ran into two big rain storms on the way and barely got wet. Was able to put RainX on the shield which really helped and the vent provided a nice flow of air when I got to hotter weather in Vegas. Towed my new to me Escapade trailer, and I didn't really know it was back there even in hard crosswinds and heavy rain. I'm not usually fan of tank bags but I picked a small one up from Motorcyclegear.com that's a perfect fit for the RSV. Holds my MP3 player, sunglasses, wallet and a few food bars, even has a map pocket, but I use a GPS. Head back to Salt Lake City on Saturday, weather looks better this time. I think I'm ready now. I will be doing an Iron Butt ride on the first leg, 923 miles. This will be my first. Longest one day total before was 793 miles.
  4. Any one near Buckley up for an early morning ride to Alder Lake and Back?

  14. Not sure if this is already an ongoing thread but, sad news to report about a local biker, just a few miles from where I live/ride. There are some incredibly dumb people out there, be careful. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30558822/ Another article with her photo here: http://mobile.chicagotribune.com/inf/infomo;jsessionid=FD8A0179013AD9793388.2193?view=breakingnews_article&feed:a=chi_trib_1min&feed:c=latest_breaking_news&feed:i=C92EC7656B65D117A75BFECF7D993041&nopaging=1 Here's the text of the article. A motorcyclist was killed over the weekend after being struck by a car driven by a woman who was painting her fingernails at the time of the crash. Anita Zaffke, of Lake Zurich, was wearing a helmet when she was hit from behind by a Chevy Impala at a stop light Saturday evening at Route 12 and Old McHenry Road, the Chicago Tribune reported. "It appears to be a tragic accident and it appears (Zaffke) did nothing wrong," Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott Morrison said. "She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and she could not have done anything to avoid it." Her son, Greg, told the Tribune that his mother was wearing a bright yellow biker's jacket. Zaffke was thrown "a couple of hundred feet" by the impact, the Lake County Coroner said. The driver of the Impala, Lora Hunt, 48, of Morris, told police she was painting her fingernails as she approached the red light at that corner, and she apparently didn't see the motorcycle. Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said that Zaffke died from chest and abdominal injuries about an hour later at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. Morrison said Hunt was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and could face additional charges. The Lake County State's Attorney's office says it's looking into criminal charges, as well. "We are looking into charges in the case," Assistant State's Attorney Patricia Fix said this morning. "But we are waiting for results of blood and urine tests and waiting for the results of an accident reconstruction, as well as any other technical evidence we can derive from the scene."
  15. The wife and I was out rideing yesterday in the Gaylord area and we pasted the same venture twice the first on the road to the lake of the north ... The bike was black in color.. Mine is burgenty in color... Any way just to say high....Ron
  16. I'm sure you all will hear about it soon enough! Last weekend I went on a ride with Big Tom up to Lake Ontario and when we got there for lunch I turned off the GPS and put it in the trunk. Well, when Earl called me this week for our address that wasn't coming up on his GPS, I ran out to the garage and got the GPS out of the trunk, turned it on, and gave him the coordinates over the phone. Unfortunately, it didn't find itself on the satellites yet when I gave him the coordinates! He called from an area which should have been about an hour away, and two hours later we were wondering what was taking soooo long! He called a second time asking me if we lived anywhere near the lake. He mentioned some street names that were totally unfamiliar to me, so, I gave him the address for an Auto Zone up the street from us and he told me he was an hour and a half away, on Rt 98 at the lake! Rt 98 comes into Arcade so I told him to head south on the route and I wil come north to him. We met up with them about 45 minutes later, took 2 other couples along for the ride. I finaly figured out what happened on the way home after we stoped for diner, which is another story...
  17. First a warning, this video is 9:42 seconds long and not terribly exciting. It's simply me testing the video capabilities of my iPhone mounted to the bike with a Ram mount. Still, it's kinda neat. Makes you feel like you're riding. The wavy-ness of the video I've since confirmed, is due to shooting through the windscreen. Take a look/listen and if the stereo isn't too loud, is that other sound the ibasket whine or, just a chirp? This is the longer version, I think... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-maLTaqWEs]YouTube - Venturing home[/ame] If this one works, it should be shorter. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgcF4JdRZp8]YouTube - Last part of my ride home[/ame] I'm going on my annual round the lake (lake michigan) ride starting this saturday and will video some of that, to be posted along the way hopefully.
  18. Departing for a 7 day ride through New Mexico and Colorado on Saturday July 10. I have a tentitive schedule but this is going to be a leisure trip with nothing eally set in concrete. Day 1 - 446 miles - Cleburne to Brantley Lake State Park west of Carlsbad, NM Day 2 - 375 miles - Brantley Lake State Park to Santa Cruz Lake Recreation Area north of Santa Fe. We may decide to stay in Santa Fe instead of Santa Cruz. I have some friends that have a condo there but will play it by ear and depends on how many make the trip. Day 3 - 249 miles - Santa Fe to Silverton, Colorado - I will be making reservations at the Canyon View Motel. Rates on their internet page are $65 a night. Day 4 - 122 miles - Silverton to Gunnison KOA Campground - this is a pretty short run but the road looks pretty twisty and we will take our time and enjoy. We may decide to keep riding and stop at another location. Day 5 - 258 miles - Gunnison to Monument Lake State Park west of Trinidad, Colorado. Day 6 - 361 miles - Monument Lake State Park to Caprock Canyon State Park near Silverton, TX Day 7 - 320 miles - back to Cleburne Let me know if you are interested in going and I will send you maps of the routes. I have MapSource (Garmin) files if you have a GPS to load. Michael Burton Director Blue Knights Texas XXI 903-681-5983
  19. Well am I bad, I left Canada with what I thought was a ok rear tire. it seems to have worn a lot faster than I anticipated. Anybody know of a dealer around Lake City that might have a tire in stock and able to install it I have tried Mountain Power Sports 1 40 Good Times Yamaha of Knoxville. Perhaps somewhere heading north on 1 75. Thanks Bob
  20. I went for a ride with 2 buddies and I assumed that everyone knew about an "optical illusion" in our area, but neither one had heard of it. Upon seeing it they had to go back and try it again and then again. So I thought I'd mention it here, for anyone near the Port Colborne area, just in case you had not seen it either. When travelling in an EASTERN direction along Lakeshore Rd West at Oakridge Rd, there is a bend in the road just as Lake Erie comes into view. Across the water is a factory, and when first viewed it looks huge, but as you get closer it moves further away! Ergo the optical illusion. If your in the area, check it out, it will amaze!
  21. The Lake Express Ferry just announce that motorcycles will travel free in May and June. Also, if reservations are made online, they will be free Sept and Oct as well. This is a great way to avoid Chicago traffic. My wife and I (and the Venture) have taken it a couple of times. Very nice. http://www.lake-express.com/newsletters/10MarMRF/index.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=CampaignMonitorEmails&utm_content=990060759&utm_campaign=2010-MAR-MotorcyclesRideFreeKickoff+_+oitukr&utm_term=Clickhere RR
  22. Wondering if any of the members here can shed some light on the following... Snoqualmie pass "normal" weather conditions during late September (around 19th) Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Flagstaff areas normal daily high / low temps during September.
  23. Autumn of 2004 I traded my 1984 Venture Royale to Hacker's in Houghton Lake, MI. I think they did the 2nd gear repair and fixed an oil leak issue before they resold it sometime summer of 2005. I'm curious if anyone here may have been the buyer. Since I've joined I have found that some of you will look long and hard to find a particular 1st or 2nd gen. bike. I just thought that if someone here got it, it would be nice to know where it went. Mel:Venture:
