  1. The previous owner of my '03 RSMV lowered the front by moving the forks up the triple tree one inch. He did this because he was shorter, but I am 6'3" and thought that I may like the bike a little higher. Really, for no particular reason as it looks fine and seems to handle OK as it is. I saw on some other postings that some say the bike handles better with the front lowered like this. If so, I am fine with leaving it as it is. Mine is the only 2nd Gen I have ridden so I have nothing to compare it to and would appreciate any input. :scratchchin:What has been your experience? Does the bike handle better with the front lowered? Thanks! Don
  2. John posted his yesterday and I finally got word this morning that my retirement board agrees with all the Doctors. It has only taken since May. Guess they thought I would have starved by now and they wouldn't have to pay!! I am a dilapidated worn out piece of junk!!! It is offical. I am retired. Anyone know where I can get a job where I don't have to whip convicts?? Warden doesn't think she can handle me full time around here. I would make one he** of a Wall-Mart Greeter "ALL RIGHT EVERYBODY ON THE WALL AND SPREAD EM!!!" "GET OUT OF THAT CART LADY, UGLY AIN"T A HANDICAP!!" " WALK YOUR FAT A** AND YOU MIGHT NOT BE IN THAT SHAPE!!" I got them all covered!!
  3. Yesterday I had a female friend ask me what "size" the Venture was. I explained to her that it had a 1300cc engine. She said "Oh, that's small enough for me to handle". I told her that it was a VERY heavy bike. She then proceded to inform me that she had she motorcycle license and said "The weight doesn't matter, as long as it has a small engine, I can handle it". :bang head: I didn't even bother to waste my breath trying to explain the difference. Needless to say, she WILL NOT ride it. :no-no-no:
  4. I've been loooking @ a GPS and would like to have on. The ones for cycles are high $$. Anyone ever mount one that is not water proof,I would lik to use it in my vehicle too. I know I would be taking risk of it getting wet, but is the extra $$ worth it. My Venture has a cig plug right by where I would mount it, I know I would have to have a handle bar mount, but that could stay on bike all the time. Any in-put would help before I lay out $$ for one. Thanxs! Ride safe!
  5. Has any one ever put a lowering kit on a Venture?? If so does it handle different? I would like to lower the back 1". I have only found a kit for 1.5". I could handle that But don,t Know how it will handle & would it be hard on the drive shaft? any input welcome. My long legs with only 29" inseam would like it just a little lower.
  6. We hit a small nub buck last night about 6 miles from home. We're pretty much fine, just a few scrapes and bruises. Hoping that's all it is. I road the bike home from the towing company this morning. Seems to handle ok, so I hope it's mostly cosmetical stuff. But it looks like a lot of cosmetical stuff, so I wouldn't be surprised if it gets totalled out. Front fairing, windshield, fairing mounts tweaked, blinker mounts tweaked, lower left fairing broken, chrome grill dented, gas tank has 3 dents, both left crash bars bent and worn through(what a spark show as we slid down the road on it though), left saddle bag broken, trunk lid scraped, speaker housing scraped, antenna scraped, handle bars bent, mirror scraped. Probably a few more things we've missed. Oh ya, when we went to the crash site this morning, the first thing I picked up was the deer whistles. Guess those didn't help much. Later, Scooter Bob and Karen PS, for some reason the pic of the deer wouldn't load, but he was dead instantly.
  7. I just want to give SKB a big thank you!!! the wife was doing some cleaning and my hard case fell it was just standing on end and fell flat on the foyer floor the end handle broke off on both ends it just hit wrong anyways i called SKB early today and left a message with my phone # with hopes of buying a new handle they called me back just a few minutes ago and asked for my address so they could send me out a new handle when i asked how much i owed she said nothing it has a life time waranty COODO"S to SKB for there great service here is there site if anyone is interested http://www.skbcases.com/ Dray
  8. hey guys i was wonderin if you coul take out the guts from the front brake handel and put it in the clutch handle i think that it would work but im just not shure
  9. Took the bike out for the day yesterday. everything was fine at 1st, but towards the end of the day, the clutch didn't want to work. The only way I could get it to engage was by pumping the handle before I started downshifting. Would an air bubble cause this? The fluid level at the handle is good. Also, I have a vibration at 70 or better while riding 2 up. would the superbrace take care of this? got a new pirelli on the front and a new dunlop elite3 on the back.
  10. I had to go through a water crossing today at Palo Duro Canyon. I guess Ventures really do handle like a boat!! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwcpStxcv2E]YouTube - watercrossing[/ame]
  11. Little Help for the newbie again It's that plug that goes into the side of the clutch handle on the handle bars
  12. Has anyone heard of a weight restriction on a 87VR. My son is still playing football (O Line) and keeps getting bigger. Together we are at 540 LBS. What can the bike handle. I am very strong and can handle the weight of the bike with the added passenger weight. I am just concerned about the bike and frame and coming apart at a bad time! What do ya'll think. I know, loose weight big guy but I still eat like I did when I played football. Oh the battle of the bulge.
  13. Never put more between your legs than you can handle. http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/287401
  14. Does anybody know if the 1.5 inch riser inserts (the ones that stack on the stock risers) will work on the 99 Venture? I see there are 2 rubber spacers between the handle bars and the faring. If I raise the bars the rubber spacers will no longer make contact with the bars. Is this a concern? And is there an alternative aside from purchacing new handle bars?
  15. I am needing to find the plug that goes into the hole to hide the bolt for the handle bar adjustment nut. Any suggestions? Thanks
  16. I was on yamaha's web site looking at the accessaries. I see they have a set of handle bars to fit the rstd. Has anyone used them? I would like a little more pullback than the stock bars have. which would be better the flanders or the one on the yamaha site? thanks Marty
  17. I have purchased a set of risers based on all the wonderful information on the site. My question is, do the bolts have to be torqued? Not that I know much about anything mechanical, but would like to ensure that the handle bars don't come off because I didn't tighten them enough. As always, thanks for all the wonderful help.
  18. Anybody got a set of damaged stock handle bars (2nd Gen)? I want just the ends so I can cut the threaded inserts out for the bar weights for a project that I have in mind.:banana: Any help is appreciated! Bubber aka Steve
  19. I have noticed that on long rides, (300 miles+) I get a slight pain in my back between my shoulders. I have an 08 RSV and it seems like the handle bars need to be slightly higher and back towards me a little more. I can't really sit up straight and get full use of the back rest. Seems like I have to lean forward slightly to get to the handle bars and I end up supporting a small amount of my upper body with my arms (like riding a sport bike but not near as intense) I noticed the handle bar mounts that goes in the triple tree has sort of a sweeping curve to it......its not straight like most. I have a couple of questions: 1. Does anyone make handle bar mounts that will move handle bars back towards the driver about 1" - ! 1/2" that will not require me to altar the front cowling? 2. Will I have to re-route or extend cables and or wiring if I extend handle bar mounts by 1" - 1 1/2"
  20. I need a fuel reserve T-handle for '86 RSV. If anybody has or knows of one that is availible I would appreciate it. We were coming back from the Smokeys and stopped at a rest area and when we returned to the bike my wife noticed a screw lying on the passenger foot rest, I noticed no reserve valve handle. I think it vibed out cause I had a tire that was cupped pretty bad at the time on the back. Should have replaced it before we took the trip.
  21. I received the following information from ReineyRooster. Please keep the friends and family in your prayers. Though Al may have just joined to help out with the Rally, he DID post here a number of times and as with any of our members will be missed. From ReinyRooster Don, a very good friend of mine, Al Johnson died December 19th and was laid to rest December 23, 2008. He joined this club just to become a member so that he could help us organize and run the VentureRider rally that we held in Kitchener this year, and was in charge of the t-shirt sales until he become to ill to handle it. His handle was "King of squirrels".
  22. Other than being the famous last words of the Hindenburg pilot, what does the small slider switch on the dash, to the right of the handle bars at the vertical portion of the dash panel next to the "grate" do? http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq60/ivanstein/IMAGE_018.jpg?t=1227930215
  23. Does anyone know where I can find a left and a right threaded #10 , 1.25 thread , about 3/4" long stainless allen cap screw? These go where the mirrors would fit on the flange of an 87' VR at each reservoir on the handle bars. They hold down covers and other controls on the handlebars. Mine are stripped out. Thanks for the help!!
  24. Haven't taken the time to read all the Darkside threads , but has anyone pulled a trailer while having a CT on their scoot ? How does it handle flat land , cornering , twisties , etc. ? Just curious . BEER30
  25. Ok, just for the very short 2 and half days we were there, Mechanic took over 1400 pics, but she felt a little worried that would be too much for this group to handle. :whistling: So she parred it down and I loaded only 1329 :rotf: http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20Ashville%2020090808/
