  1. I was taking the long way home from work today and saw a pretty blue 1st gen the entrance of the Port of Catoosa headed north on Hwy 167 - who was it? Anyone we know?
  2. Some of the 99's are almost 9 years old now. Does the 2nd gen Venture ever develop the oil leak at the stator wires that the 1st gen does?
  3. Nice trike, http://i2.ebayimg.com/08/i/000/bd/b0/b423_3.JPGbut me thinks a little steep...............!st Gen Trike.....Ebay
  4. There are a number of bikes including the 1st gen that have the mirrors mounted to the fairing which is frame mounted. Many other bikes including the 2nd gen have handlebar mounted mirrors. One thing I really like about frame mounted fairings with fairing mounted mirrors is that regardless of the direction of the front wheel, the mirrors are always showing what's directly behind. Having ridden such style of bike for a long time now, I'm wondering how easy/difficult it will be to get used to the handlebar mounted mirrors again. While there are pros and cons for both mirror styles, I feel I'd have less visibility with the handlebar mounted mirrors and since they are positioned more to the side of you than the fairing mounted ones, it causes your eyes to look further away from the center in order to see what's behind thus in effect, taking your eyes "off the road ahead" more. Anyone have thoughts/opinions about this?
  5. We were at Silver Dollar City in Branson ,Mo. sat. and noticed a 1st gen. in the bike lot. I was just wondering who was there?
  6. Thom

    i/c ?

on the 1st gen , are the mikes allways on , how do i use the ptt buttems , do they only work for the cb ?
  7. All I have been hearing from you is that 1st Gens are Antiques....at least they are running. Cant say much for yours... You are either working or giving your 2 cents(which isnt much these days) on this site...... while your 2nd Gen sits in your garage and RUSTS AWAY ....30 years from now it wont be called Antiques but JUNK .......I have seen more 2nd Gen rusting than 1st Gens:buttkick:
  8. Just curious, who had the 1st gen with the gorgeous Eagle etching on their windshield of their 1st gen at Ft. Collins this year? I am looking to have something similar done on mine as my painter - who is also doing windshied etching now - is out in my area this week - but didn't want to copy what I saw in Ft. Collins. My picture only turned out so so, and was hoping to get a better picture to show Sue and give her an idea of what I want.
  9. Is there a carb rebuld kit for the 2nd Gen? Looking like it might be nice to clean up the carbs and replace the gaskets/O-rings. Would like a kit so I don't forget anything. RR
  10. Hello all Well I've been working on making a bench tester for the 1st Gen TCI's and I could use the cables/plugs that go to the TCI. Has anyone parted out a 1st Gen bike where I could get these cables? It would simplify hooking up a TCI if I had these. DonB I can be reached at donb@mnsi.net TIA
  11. Anyone have one of these lying around after putting a light bar on your 2nd gen? I have a mod I'd like to try on one and use it to replace the bent light bar on my 2nd gen!
  12. What is a good choice for a good quality oil filter for a 1st Gen venture that is NOT from a dealer. I'm an hour away from dealer. Wally's #? Purolator #? Other... I just changed oil, but used my last filter & need to get a few. I use synthetic 20-50.
  13. Has anyone here installed Yamaha’s Tri Bar headlight on a 2nd Gen venture? If so do you like it? Can you change the bulb without splitting the faring? Any brighter? What about the Tri Bar passing lamps, are they much better then the stock driving lamps (guess it wouldn’t take much to beat them)? Wondering??
  14. Okay, here's a couple trivia questions for all you geniuses. For the answers, look way down at the bottom of this post. 1. How many old T shirts does it take to soak up 3 quarts of brand new motor oil from your nice clean garage floor? 2. When changing oil in your bike (well, at least if it's a 1994 Goldwing), if you don't replace the drain plug before starting to add new oil, will the oil run out of the drain hole: a.) faster than you can pour it into the fill hole b.) at the same speed as you pour it into the fill hole c.) no one really knows because you're so busy looking for old T shirts laying around the garage that you can't tell how fast it's coming out. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ANSWERS: 1.) Exactly 6. Well, maybe not exactly 6 but that's all I could find. So, I guess it coulda been 8. Maybe even 10. 2.) You should be able to guess the answer to this one. Disclaimer: these questions are only valid for the GL1500 Goldwing. And maybe only for the 1994 models. And possibly only if you are using Castrol 20w-50.....other oils may vary. Now we need a volunteer to try this on the Venture and see if the results are similar. Probably should have a volunteer for the 1st Gen 1200cc, the 1st Gen 1300cc, and the 2nd Gen. Oh, if anyone with a RSTD would like to join in the fun, have at it!!!
  15. Saw this on eBay. If I had the $ I'd buy it now!!! Forget that the mileage is so low... it's an 85 with serial number 1617. Ya know what that means?? Well according to this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7977&highlight=serial It means no 2nd gear issue. An early 1st gen, with less than 10K, garaged, 1 owner and not susceptible to the 2nd gear issue... PRICELESS! See it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270169759194&rd=1 Hope someone here gets it!

    Brakes

Can anyone tell me what year the 2nd gen brakes were updated to 4 piston calipers?
  17. Any body looking for a nice touring bike with a trailer. It looks alot faster than a first gen. gen.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1944-Cushman-Airborne-with-trailer-RESTORED_W0QQitemZ260161419868QQihZ016QQcategoryZ80765QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  18. OK, I suffered through a tank of gas without using 5th gear in the name of science. NO reason to ever do it again. Many of us know that the overall gear ratio in 4th gear on an RSV is identical to the overall gear ratio in 5th on a 1st gen. Also, many 1st gen owners continue to insist that their bikes routinely get better gas mileage than the 2nd gen. So out of curiosity, I just burned a full tank in my 05 RSV without hardly using 5th gear at all. Saturday I did a PGR mission up in Oklahoma a bit over 100 miles from here. I filled up just before heading home and kept it in 4th the whole way, averaging 75 - 80 MPH. Then I added one 40 mile round trip to work before I filled up. Result? I got a measly 32 MPG on that tank of gas, where I usually get 36 under the same conditions. Conclusion? The difference, if there really is one, has to be due to the overall weight of the bike and the wind resistance. It is also very evident that the overdrive gear on the RSV does give you better gas mileage when hitting the super-slab. Goose
  19. Ok Jeff called and asked me to post this question. Can the glass in the left side mirror on the first gen be replaced? Evidently it's cracked on his bike. Margaret
  20. Ok folks who knows what the gear ratio is for the 2nd gen differentials? What's the 1st gen and V-max ratios too for that matter? Larry
  21. I think that this has been posted before but I can't find the answer by searching. Question is: does the 1st gen have 4 piston calipers? If I remember correctly Rick Butler made the switch, but I can't find the thread.
  22. Hi all, I am trying to track down a used 2nd gen amp for a project on my bike. Does anyone have one that they would sell to me or do you know of any wrecking yards that are parting a 2nd gen? Thanks, Greg
  23. I'm looking for a smooth billet breather covers for the 2nd Gen. like those pictured below. Part number: STR-4NK27-15-01 http://www.psndealer.com/dealersite/images/ec0268/STR-4NK27-15-01.jpg Please Email me if you know of a source other than the $150 price I keep seeing. Thanks...
