  1. 2007 Midnight Venture. Bike Hase 1600 Miles. Always Run Quality Gasoline. On Ride Sunday Started To Backfire On Decel, And At Idle. Then Started Pouring Gas Out Carb. My Guess Was Stuck Carb Float (i Am Used To Gold Wing Fuel Inj.) . I Turned Fuel Supply Valve Off To Run Out All Gas Out Of Carbs Then Turned Back On Several Times And It Corrected Itself. Rode Another 200+ Miles On Trip With No Problems (also Put Seafoam In Tank). My Question Is Did I Make The Right Moves To Correct And Should I Be Concerned Or Is This Something That Happens Sometimes.
  2. A friend of mine sent me this link. Interesting concept. http://www.motorcyclemojo.com/articles/the-uno/
  3. I need some feedback here. As some of you may know, I recently purchased a brand new '06 RSTD. This bike had 0 KM on it, and has the full 5 year warranty. I bought it on Thurs, and took delivery yesterday. During the dealer walk around, one of the things he showed me was the gas cap, and how to take it off etc. (Bike has no owners manual, it is ordered and coming) Anyways, when he took off the gas cap, I noticed quite a bit of rust in the filler neck, and upon further inspection, there are spots of rust on the piece INSIDE the tank as well. I commented on this, but the dealer said it was ok, not to worry it was bare metal, almost all of them have rust etc. I don't know if it was the anticipation of the first ride or a temporary brain fart, but I did not question it further. I have put about 170 KM on it so far, and looked inside the tank again, and it is bothering me more. I took some pics, and will post here later. Any first impressions? Should a new bike have any rust? What is he talking about it being "bare metal" This is my first new bike, and first Yamaha. What kind of complications could a rusty tank cause me? Any help would be appreciated. Sonny Sonny
  4. SO i got up today and stoped at my local BP, the price jumoed to $3.59 overnight. this is rally getting rediculas. I hav to drive all over with my work. On a side note the gas last time I looked at my marina was $4.15 a gal for gas. Im looking to sell my boat rathen then just sit at the dock all summer. so how bad is it everywhere else:confused24:
  5. Just thought I would share some pics. We came across this rusty bike at the Jamestown dealership while out on our countryside ride. If you stare at it long enough you see all sorts of clever things... like the gas can gas tank. http://helmetspeakers.741.com/images/adventure.2008/4.13.2008/100_1517x.jpg http://helmetspeakers.741.com/images/adventure.2008/4.13.2008/100_1520x.jpg
  6. I have a 99 RSV. I was changing the spark plugs on the bike tonight and when I took the tank off I discovered quite a bit of gas on and around the air box on the top of the carbs. The only thing I could find was the boots on the top of the left carbs were quite loose. I don't know if I have a vacuum leak some where or why there would be gas hanging around up there. Oh and the bike has been running perfect. Any thoughts would be appreciated, not real familiar with carb works.

    Just not my Day!

Well first we missed the water line, hit that one before! Then we found the old gas line but as luck would have it we hit the good gas line and wooooos yep should have call DIG Rite! Man I hate 20/20 vision. I knew I should have went for a ride instead! All this for a patio...............
  8. After struggling through the "longest winter ever" we now have good enough weather to bring the bikes out from storage. There had to be at least 50 or more bikes travel down the highway past my place today, I also decided to begin my 2008 season. Uncovered my clean bike, installed the fully charged battery, wheeled it out of my garage and after 3 attempts to start, it fired up. Without any warning, gasoline started spraying out onto the ground from behind the leftside air breather. Unfortunately I didn't realize I had the gas leak soon enough to prevent major damage to the asphalt surface of the driveway, a lot of gas sprayed out. NOT IMPRESSED!!!!!! I took off the left side cowling to see where the gas was coming from. There is an open ended rubber tube that is not connected to the breather but is secured to the plastic housing. I cranked the engine once again and witnessed without view obstruction, this is the source of the gas leak. Of course this is Saturday late afternoon, the bike shop is closed til Monday and I am no mechanic, so I washed the bike, wheeled it back into the garage and did my best to clean up the fuel that was eating up my driveway. Can anyone explain why this happened??????? Thanks in advance!
  9. I have been noticing a smell of gas after "getting on" the throttle. I don't notice this unless I really wind the bike out. Bike runs fine. Where should I start, a carb sync? Thanks.... Fred
  10. Please can any one tell me why there would be gas runing from the bottom of the motor & front fairing. I had the tank off to change the antifreeze. could the vent line at the top of the tank be causing this to happen? is it also used as a return line?
  11. Spring time is here. The bike is back out. I've gone through three or four tanks of gas now, so the gas stabilizer is well flushed out of the tank, carbs, and all the lines. But I still have some remaining unused gas stabilizer in the bottle on the shelf. Is there anything I can do to keep this stuff from going bad before next winter as it sets in the bottle doing nothing? I don't want to find a bottle of gummy varnish that needs cleaned out next winter when it's storage time again. Should I put some gas in the bottle and top it off, so that there's no air in the bottle to break down the gas stabilizer? In short, I just want to know how to stabilize the gas stabilizer for the summer storage months.
  12. from orignal owner never ridden hard or in the rain it has been layed down a few time but cleaned up well afterwards two tone paint job and has never run out of gas he clames its a good ride for around town or getting a gallon of milk
  13. I got this email today and thought that it was interesting,Just how much oil some of the big oil companeys are importing. So I thought I would share it.Nothing intended just FYI. Ouicksilver Subject: Fw: Buy USA Gas ONLY from now on... WHERE TO BUY YOUR USA-GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON-- Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought is to boy cott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil. These companies import Middle Eastern oil: Shell......................... 205,742,000 barrels Chevron/Texaco.........144,332,000 barrels Exxon /Mobil..............130,082,000 barrels Marathon/ Speedway..117,740,000 barrels Amoco........................62,231,000 barrels Citgo Gas comes from South America, from a Dictator who hates Americans. Do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! (Oil is now $90-$95 a barrel) Here are some large companies that DO NOT import Middle Eastern oil: Sunoco...............0 barrels Conoco...............0 barrels Sinclair................0 barrels BP/Phillips..........0 barrels Hess..................0 barrels ARC0. ..................0 barrels Also: Pilot, Flying J, Love's, RaceTrac, Valero All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.
  14. Periodically I fill the tank on the way home, and the next morning the garage smells of gas. Ride 30-50 miles (about a gallon used) to work and the next several days and nothing smells anymore. It sat full for the last few days and gave me a chance to track it down. It was a slow leak so just have to find the wet spots. Sounds easy enough. Originally thought I had a oil leak in the rear shock area, the lower shock links were crusted in black dirt, and the puddle under it represented oil, rather than gas. The gas washed the old oil and dirt down to the floor and evaporated off. Once I cleaned things it was clear gas alright. Finally started pulling hoses, cleaning under the tank, shining a flashlight everywhere, entire bottom of tank area was wet and dirty, no one place. petcock area was dry. Finger on the rear plastic fender next to the shock was wet with gas. Had to be from up top. Feared a rust hole or broken seam at the top of the tank somewhere. Looking through parts drawing for the tank, I saw the fuel sender under the seat. Forgot all about that. Doh! Pulled the seat and it looked dusty and dry. Nto wet like the area further down the fender/rear of tank. I filled the tank to the top and then looked and sure enough, s small weeping spring appeared on the fuel sender. The center nylon insulator sealant is falling off and gas is welling up around it. Plan to drain the tank some and pull the sender out and drill out the riveted asembly, reseal, and re-rivet if possible. Pulling the seat first would have saved much time. - Mike

  18. Hi, I have a gas tank on my 84 venture thats leaking. I purchased another one from ebay and the gas cap opening is smaller. I havent had it installed yet. Do you think this could be the wrong tank or did they make them with two different size openings for the first gen.?
  19. My wife got me this, but the parts that are supposed to be attached to the gas tank with Velcro don't even come close to the tank. Anyone else find this a problem? The rest of it works fine: the 2 holes line up correctly under the front of the seat, the gas cap hole is fine, although quite a tight fit, & the plastic thingy around the gas cap holds everything down quite well. I didn't remove the rubber piece down the middle of the gas tank. So, at the front of the gas tank, the tuxedo tie sticks out some, but certainly would not be able to attach to the gas tank front. Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Gas Cap

Got a fuel tank for an 83 venture recently from FREEBIRD...Thanks again, Freebird. He had already told me it had no gas cap and I thought my old one would fit it. WRONG !! Smaller neck. (About 1 1/4") Does anyone out there have an old cap laying around on their work bench that they would be willing to part with? I suppose I could get one from Yamaha but if there is one out there in the group, i'd rather deal with you'se guy's (and gals)..... Safari

    84 Venture fuel tank

Anyone out there know where I can obtain a good USED or new gas tank for my 84? Cheap gas has rusted it out again. Tank is off and thought I'd try to repair it but think I'm just asking for future trouble..... Any ideas?
  22. I have never had much experience with wobble but I would expect that there are some do's and don't should it happen. Let's just say for the sake of discussion that one is going down the road, say at a nice comfy 60 mph , jacks it up to 75 to pass and wow, it starts wobbling like crazy. I suppose the first thing would be to let off on the gas. How about breaking? Is the an excepted procedure? I ask because years ago I had a blowout, and not a clue what to do, I hit the break, wrong way and wrong time to find out, so I thought I would get the jump on it and ask about wobble.
  23. Had to post this....found in a bit interesting. I just copied a portion of it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the co ffers of Saudi Arabia Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It's really simple to do.
  24. Greetings, I was just wondering for storing the bike over winter is it better to have the gas tank full or pretty close to empty. Mine just has 2 bars showing on the guage right now. I was thinking about that gas just sitting there for 2 to 3 months. If it was better to start the season with a fresh tank. Or does it make a difference. Thank you. bossman
  25. Ethanol Blended Gasoline...(Ethanol etc) ___________________________________ I'm wondering how the Missouri Riders are doing burning E10 in their bikes? I remember one year coming home from Sturgis, I filled up in this little one-horse town in Colorado with some E10 and my gas mileage dropped about 10-20%.....have you noticed any difference? (Big Brother is watching!) http://www.mocorn.org/news/2005/News%20Release%20Blunt%20Makes%20State%20Ethanol%20Standard%206-6-05.html
