  1. i found out yamaha made a bra for 1st gens and i should have one by the 1st of the week
  2. As the temperatures have been falling the past week or two, there has been a distinct chill in the air. Makes for an invigorating ride! However, with the lower temperatures, I have found when I run through some spots with a temperature change, the windshield fogs up. This may have happened with my Suzi, I don't recall, but I looked over the top of the windshield so it wasn't an issue. Now though it can be kinda scary when suddenly your visibility goes to 20'. Has anyone found a good Lexan cleaner that will prevent fog? Randy
  3. In last 3 yrs have had First Gen and Second Generation Bikes 85 and 2000MM..85 with 18,000 miles and 2000 with 30,000. Both of these bikes I decided to dive in and make sure brakes and calipers are in good condition. Taking all calipers apart on both I found dirt and corrision that would not allow pistons to travel freely as they are suppose too. This was causing a server drag and causing a noise to travel up thru fairing and a you could feel it thru frame slightly. This is on both bikes.. The 85 I have been driving 3 yrs and with clutch just decided to bleed system for I did not want to go any farther into taking it apart at start and it worked...Wrong thing to do guys Well wish I would have and over the years become hard to shift to a point this year I could not upshift or downshift. Also want to make a Point that on my 2000 MM which by the way have only had 1 week today and was ready to get rid of. I have looked at a lot of Forums and will tell you that my 2000 MM after do front brakes makes a Lot Less Noise and while driving bike last night heard some light vibration at times coming thru the frame. The rear brakes I had just change Dot 4 in them and today removed the caliper and found the same thing with dirt and corrision . Going for a ride this afternoon and will keep you informed on rear. My girlffriend loves the ride on my 2000 vs the 85 and I am trying everthing to keep this bike.. I have changed the front tire to MT 90- 16 and tightened the steering neck bearings and it has changed it 75% to make me happy. But last nights ride I still feel I need to change handle bars to wider ones for me to be comfortable. I feel I need more leverage for I am kind of thin and do not have strong upper body for the way this bike makes me feel coming to stop and low speed maneuvering with the bike being so top heavy. Happy Riding and Do Your Maintenance Work To Keep Bike Safe.. Special note I remembered taking calipers apart....if you are having sticky pistons I found that the Alum Body Forging on the back side has 3 fingers that had caused a melting and this made a really rough deposit on these 3 fingers. It had a deposit of 1/8 to 3/16"..This would be a tell tale af a problem..Sorry I did not include this earlier. Just bought this bike and trying in one week to fix this bike to like it or sell it. Also if you are a person who has Tinnitis ( Ringing In the Ears ) you should make sure you wear ear plugs or do not buy this bike because the high pitch whine really affects this problem.. Thanks for this Forum and really do enjoy all of you who are here and show interest.

Found web site for Ted's Range Road Dinner. Just Google and there it is.Not sure if you got my PM. so I an doing it here.
  5. There are many reasons I like this site besides just the great people that are here. Although that is the #1 reason. But lets look at a few more. On this site I found out that modifying a Road King muffler would give me a throatier sounding exhaust. By the way mufflers were free. On this site I found out which clamp would make my new mufflers look like factory replacements, along with part numbers. On this site I found detailed instructions on how to modify the mufflers and even diagrams on how to build the mounts. I modified my mounts a little but they worked perfect. On this site I found directions on how to remove the front fairing to grease the connectors and prevent problems. While the fairing is apart I found out how to wire in some aux lines for my MP3 player and GPS including part numbers, again on this site. Now while I had the bike apart I was also able to correct the one problem I see with my RSV. It has WAY to much chrome on it for my liking so that had to go. Headlight bezel, windshield trim, front fork protectors, front and rear blinkers, rear tail light bezel and license plate bracket, front and rear fender trim and the carriage for the trunk and side bags were all blacked out. The motor area being dechromed is next. So here is my slightly darker black cherry RSV with the RK mufflers and clamps and all the wiring for the MP# and GPS. Thanks for all the great info I've found, and will continue to find and pass along in the future.
  6. Hey guys , I might have found an alternative antenna/receiver for the zumo (XM only) for around $50.00 plus free shipping. I just ordered it after talking to the tech on which "Off the record" he believes we have a good chance that it will work . As it looks so far , this unit is for indoor use , but if we place it under the fairing or inside weatherproof compartment . We will also have to get an adaptor.extension to connect to zumo's base , as it has a right angle connection . I found one of them and if I remember correctly , they run $18.00 . Even if you have to buy 2 of these , 1 for scoot and 1 for cage , it is still cheaper than the GXM 30 Garmins offers for over $200.00 . It should be here in a few days to where I will attempt to see if it works and pass the news along here and to the tech at where I purchased it . If it doesn't work , the tech said I could return with no problems and if it does work , along with a reveiw/report directly to him , he will consider a group discount for the forum members interested . Until then , Gene
  7. A little help please. Where do I find Yamaha Technical Service Bulletins? I did a google search and havent found any links. Thank You in advance.
  8. I've ordered Hot Grips ( from hotgrips.com) for my 06 RSV and I'm wondering if anyone has advice on the installation. My snowblower came with a pair already on as a stock feature, and when I found out that they make them for cycles I thought it would be a good idea.
  9. I found a new smiley and thought about you.
  10. Amazing...the Al Gore crowd pushes this stuff before the research is really done. How many states are REQUIRING are promoting this mess? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,297681,00.html I just found it to be interesting. PLEASE don't turn it into a political debate.
  11. I found this linked off of the N.C. PGR website who all from this site will be attending? I will be there. http://www.geocities.com/vietvetmemorial/RUN
  12. I know this question has probably come up thousands of times, but I'm on the verge of trading my 05 RSTD in for a Midnight Venture I found. Is there anyone who has went from a RSTD to a Venture and found pros & cons that can help me make a better decision? I love my RSTD but recently rode a friends HD Ultra Glide and my wife loved the added comfort and I really liked being able to listen to a radio. I also like the idea of the back trunk for helmets and stuff. I took my wife to a Yamaha dealer and she really felt good on the back of the Venture.
  13. Hi All, I have found that my hand is too big to change the headlamp bulb. I just can not reach it. I tried going on the left side above the headlight adjustment knob. Has anyone found an easy way to do this?
  14. always looking for a way to put somthing else on the bike been looking for a good cup holder and i found this:thumbsup2: http://65.102.174.116/rammount/search.aspx?searchTerm=cup+holder
  15. My wife has been complaining this trip about a strong exhaust odor. I'm not sure yet that I've found the problem but this morning V7Goose and I were looking my bike over and found the notorious pinhole exhaust leak at the "Y" where the front and rear header pipes come together. I am only mentioning this because this is the first that he or I have seen this problem on the earlier RSV. I know that many of the '05 and/or '06 models had this issue but not the '99 and other models. I ended up pulling the "Y" off the bike and repaired it with JB weld. Seems to have worked very well. Still not sure if it's the source of the exhaust that is bothering Eileen but we'll know after we've had time time ride a bit more.
  16. Happy Labor Day to all my fellow Ventureriders. I enjoy this site and i have noticed that a few questions have come up about who uses what oil and/or which oil is best for my bike. I have found that www.bobistheoilguy.com is a great site for oil information. That site has helped me save money, get free oil, and changed my mind about the 3k oil change. Take a look sometime.
  17. I bought a cheap lift table off eBay, and found it wasn't safe to put my Venture on. So while surfing eBay, I found a set of plans for a wooden table that uses your floor jack for lify power. Here are a few photos. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/DSCN7766.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/DSCN7767.jpg Here's the Venture secured by the clamp. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/bike2.jpg Here's the finished product, painted, and with an over center front wheel clamp similar to the Condor. I found plans for it on the Internet. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/DSCN8160.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/DSCN8163.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/DSCN8161.jpg
  18. found a cheap petcock on ebay.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/83-84-Venture-or-FJ1200-Fuel-Valve-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35597QQihZ014QQitemZ330157799143QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  19. Because I have seen several reports here lately about coil failures, I went searching for an easy way to test the ignition coils on our bikes. I found and ordered a Motion Pro ignition tester and it came in this week. According to our service manual for the RSV, the minimum spark gap for a good ignition spark is 8mm (.031). Now you could pull a plug, use a known good plug and test the spark but that really doesn't give a good indication of the strength of the coils. This device allows you to check the strength of the coils without pulling the plugs and the gap is adjustable so you can increase it to see how strong that spark is. You can also easily see the color of the spark. I tested it early this morning and found that it is easy to use and works very well. Just thought I would pass it on. It is inexpensive and I think it will be a great diagnostic tool. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/ignition_system_tester
  20. Recently found out my fork tubes are slightly bent, from last years deer impact. So I am ordering a set of Franks Forks, as replacements $245 pair Vs $198 each from yamaha (best price found). I am changing out all the fork bushings too. Yamaha doesn't list the upper tube bushing separately from the fork tube itself & after some searching I found racetech.com does have the bushings listed.
  21. I was going to order some new OEM spark plug caps for around $110.00. My dealer showed me some NGK caps that are hard plastic and only cost $5.00 each. Using fuzzy math, I could replace these 5 times for the price of the OEMs. Has anyone actually used these caps and found them good or bad? Using the old adage, "you get what you pay for" I am a little leary. Thanks in advance!
  22. I found this on another site and thought I would pass it along. Dog
  23. 86 - 91 YAMAH VENTURE ROYALE cb radio antenna mount http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-91-YAMAH-VENTURE-ROYALE-cb-radio-antenna-mount_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10066QQihZ013QQitemZ230149294534QQrdZ1 it's not mine, just found it while looking around
  24. Went out for a ride Saturday with my son on his new VTX1300. After about 50 miles, he wanted to trade rides for a bit. He had noticed his VTX had a hard time keeping up with my 93, and immediately got on the throttle. I couldn't catch him on a nice long straight and have no idea how fast he was going but the Honda was showing over 100. We met at a little "greasy spoon" had a some lunch and headed for the Interstate. As we pulled off the on ramp I accelerated quickly and found that my speedo would stop at 75. I know it had been working because I had it over 100 on several occasions. We crusied at about 80 for the next 50+ miles (according to his speedo) but mine would not exceed 75. Anybody got a clue on this one? Doesn't seem possible!
  25. I want to add some type of highway or cruising pegs and am looking for advice. I had looked at the cruisin' pegs made by Aeromach but I just found out they are no longer making them. I liked the fact that they attached to the floorboards. Soooooooo, help me out. What works?
