My cruise control kept failing for some unknown reason. Was driving me nuts trying to figure it out. I ended up stumbling across a post somewhere in the forum saying that it could very well be the leather streamers that so many of us install on our clutch & brake levers. Just the resistance thru the wind when travelling is enough to cause cruise control failure/interupt. No problems now that I changed the streamers to the handle bar. What a great info forum.... Bobby

Hello everyone. I recently joined this forum to help with some modifications I am making to my 2006 RSTD Midnight. I specifically needed information regarding retrofitting a Venture pillowtop seat to my bike. The information I have gotten so far has been great! I've done some reading and searching and it has been a big help. I have done the AIS plug up that I read about on this site. Thank you so much. Right now I am looking for a diagram to help with fabbing the front L brackets I will need to mount the RSV rider's seat on my RSTD. I would be really appreciative if somebody could help me out with it. I have a Venture seat on the way, ordered the rear seat bracket off E-bay, and have "a plan". I just need some help with the front brackets. The rear seat will be no problem, thanks to what has been posted here. Thank you in advance, I promise some of my questions will be annoying, but I could use some help and this site was recommended to me by some people from another forum who spoke very highly of it. Hi, I am looking for a front fender rail, front fender light, front spoiler (not sure if that is the proper name for it) and passenger floorboards. I have been watching ebay. Will these parts off any venture 1983 - 1993 fit on my 1985? Are there other years that will fit? Any other ideas where to find these parts? I am sure this type of question gets asked a lot by newcomers. Checked the forum for quite a while and didn't see anything so apologize if I missed an answer already posted. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

..and it should be called .... Jabs, Digs, and Pokes then, whenever a member does this to another in a thread (as I often do), then it should automatically go into this new Forum. That way, the thread is left clean and specific to the topic and when we wanted to Jab, Dig, or Poke back, we'd just go there! Everyone could then read all the Jabs, Digs, and Pokes without having to weed thru REAL STUFF and vice versa! :cool10: :cool10:

Side Gapping, any one done it yet?
Darren posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just finished reading this article, and thinking very heavily of doing this tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone else has done it yet? I think this might add to the lower end in addition to the other mods in this forum. With these fuel prices, i'm willing to try anything!! 2-3mpg is 2-3 mpg http://performanceunlimited.com/documents/plugsidegapping.html -

Did a 350mi ride with the queen yesterday and noticed a disturbing noise near the differential, today it's going crick...crick...crick...as the wheel rolls slowly....thinking somehow the diff is shot, oil clean, took sensor out and teeth look fine...check the forum and learned it might be the diff pins being dry....broke it down, cleaned and greased with honda moly 60....noise gone...Thanks to the powers that be....Mick

OK folks. A number of people have complained that it is sometimes hard to find the member who is selling something in the classifieds. If you clicked their username, it opened up a profile in the classifieds but not the usual member profile. So, I've done some custom programming this evening that will hopefully make it easier for everybody. If you are in the classifieds now and click on the username of the person who posted the ad, it will open up their actual forum profile instead of the pretty much useless profile in the classifieds. I also changed it so that if you click the "contact buyer" link in a classified ad, it opens up the private message screen here on the forum. I tested it and it seems to be working correctly. Sometimes though when I make a change like that, it creates some unexpected changes that show up later. Hopefully it will work as I intend and it will make things better for all. If you notice any problems with it though, please let me know.

Since the early days of this site, there have been folks here who have expressed the opinion that they do not like our classified area. Some have stated that they would rather have the classifieds as part of the forum and not a separate page. This poll is to allow you all to vote on this issue. Before doing so though, I would like to point out a few things that we will be giving up should we move the classifies to the forum. 1. There will be no way to hold "auctions" as are sometimes used now for St. Judes and occasionally for other reasons. 2. In order to keep it manageable, the ads in the forum will be set to expire after a pre-determined time. I'm thinking 30 days but it is open for discussion. It could be 60 or 90 days but I want to keep it to a relatively short amount of time. 3. There will be no way to "renew" an ad. The only way to renew an add will be to completely re-do the ad once it expires and is automatically deleted. 4. There will be no way to include a "buy now" feature. 5. There will be no "distance" estimate. Though it is sometimes WAY off anyway. There are probably some other things also but basically, the area will work exactly like any other area of the forum does at this time. So, please think about what you think would work the best and we'll go from there. As always, your comments are welcome.

I don't really care to see the Ebay/Craigs list post when I search for new posts, but when I go to edit the ignore for new posts section of the CP, the ebay/Craigs list forum is not there to be ignored.

I'm not a new member, but a first time poster. I have spent the last six months soaking up information from this forum but haven't run across this topic. I bought a 1999 venture in September. I like the bike very much, but something about it is driving me crazy. When I ride 70 mph I get 30 mpg. When I run 80-85 mph I get 40-42 mpg. I like 40-42 the best.It has aftermarket mufflers and the AIS is plugged. That's the extent of what I know about the bike. Synchronizing the carbs haven't made a difference. If I'm doing it correctly. Changed the plugs twice. I'm pretty sure I know how to do that. The bike seems to run smoother(no mirror vibration) at higher speeds(very little vibration) at slower speeds, but I have no problem with how it runs at slower speeds except for the millage. Suggestions greatly appreciated. The wifey is starting to have questions. This the the best forum I've ever belonged to. Thanks Richard

I sold my '07 RSV today and promptly bought another Valkyrie. I guess the Royal Stars just aren't my cup of tea. I'll still be in and out of the forum to keep tabs on all of you.

Hi, I am glad to have found your site. This forum looks greeat. I have a question, if I want to let other member know of the 1984 Venture I am parting out what is the best way to do that. I tried to click on the classifieds forum but it would not let me post. Do I have to be a paid member out of the trial period to do that? Thanks for the help in advance! Rick

Hello. New to the forum. I've been looking at several 80's touring bikes to purchase. I went and looked at a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale yesterday, was wondering if there is anything I should be looking for or maybe staying away from. The bike I looked at has been sitting since August (small mom and pop dealer). When first started it was poping/backfiring on the right side exhaust. When warmed up it went away (I think it could be attributed to bad gas). It looks like the air suspension system is partially disabled, the compressor and valve unit assembly was in the rear trunk. Bike has 66000 miles on it. Radio works. Engine looks dry and doesn't smoke. It also has a utopia backrest upholstered to match the seat. I was wondering how parts availability is? Like, if I need to put a top end on it in the future can I still get piston rings and gasket set? They want $2499 for the bike and it looks complete. Any help would be appreciated.

Why are we required to fill in the "Name" field in our Profile now?
Guest posted a topic in Watering Hole
I just tried to reply to a post and was notified by the forum that I had to fill in the NAME field in my profile to be able to post. I was wondering when that change went in and why it's required? Honestly, I will never post my real name on any public forum and it should never be a requirement, IMO. -
Don I printed the article on carb syncing, and it had a lot of the forum stuff on it and was small aka hard to read due to the way it printed off the forum. I copied and pasted it into Acrobat, and formatted it for easy printing, and reading. Add it to the article for printing, if you want. It should be attached, but it it isn't send me your email, and I can send it that way. George

Just paid my registration on the old 83 yesterday and it started me thinking about the upcoming season and the people on this forum. Hoping to hook up with some of you guys this summer. I know I haven't been around the forum much, life was pretty chaotic last summer. Somehow between work, kids, and home improvements, I did squeeze some nice rides in last year, but not nearly as much as I would have liked. This upcoming season should be better as long as it doesn't rain so much like last year. Hey, January 2011 is in the history books, only a little bit of this winter left. Time to look the bike over again.

I have the opportunity to pick up a 94 Voyager at a really good price so I'm thinking about making it my ride for the summer. Does anyone know what I need to look for before I purchase it? I am trying to find a good Voyager forum for some feedback as well.

I have an '01 RSV. I want to replace the coolant plugs (rubber) under the cooling fins and can't find a P/N anywhere online, does anyone have the numbers I need ? The dimes are working for now but I want to change them out before spring. If there's a list of part numbers somewhere on the forum please give me a link. Thanks
