  1. I don't miss living up North.......:rotf:
  2. I thought mine was fine till a friend sent me the following? Got any more to add? aoladp://MA25530668-0001/01FA72~1.GIFToday's BEst of the BEst Dr. Visit aoladp://MA25530668-0002/0937FA~1.GIF brother Don I went to the doctor for my yearly physical. The nurse starts with the usual basics. "How much do you weigh?" she asks. I say, "135." The nurse puts me on the scale.. It turns out my weight is 180. The nurse asks, "Your height?" I answer, "5 feet 4 inches." The nurse checks and sees that I only measure 5 feet 2 inches. She then takes my blood pressure and tells me that it's very high. "Of course it's high!" I scream. "When I came in here I was tall and slender! Now I'm short and fat!" She put me on Prozac.
  3. Had an opportunity to deliver a Ford Ranger to my son in Las Vegas and decided that this would be a good excuse for a ride. The Venture fit in the short bed - well most of it - about 10 inches hung out on the tailgate. Anyway, got it there in one piece, except for a 3 corner crack in the left front lower fairing - had to get some plastic epoxy to fix that - not good as new but good from 6 feet. First time for cruising the desert and what an experience. Cool mornings, fierce hot days, and cool to cold nights. The colors in the Mojave as the sun sets are incredible. Had a talk with some rangers before heading out and they gave me a lot of valuable information. The suggested I have a NASA silver blanket for emergency cover from the sun, where long sleeves and pants to not get sunburn and loose too much body moisture, take 4 gallons of water for a 24 hour period, have someone expect a cell phone call at the end of the ride so they can notify authorities if you do not check in, take a tire repair kit and pump (had that covered), and a full tank of fuel of course. Folks don't realize that you could die in 5 hours without proper hydration and protection from the sun. The temp reached 118 F at about 2 in the afternoon. I travelled at about 70mph to not put the bike in too much of a strain because you tend to smell things getting hot, especially when the cooling fan comes on - which it does and then does not stop until you climb 3 or 4 thousand feet and drop 20 degrees. Met a few folks on Harleys but they did the too cool to talk bit..... so I just left them. You could smell those air cooled twins from 10 feet! It was a good day.
  4. I have seen the posts concerning the wind deflectors to keep the “breeze off the knees”. For whatever reason when my feet are on the floorboards this does not bother me. However, when I throw my feet op on my highway pegs I’ve created this wind tunnel which routes the wind straight up my legs and onto my upper body / face. At highway speeds it is pretty irritating for long stretches and I like to have my legs extended; I’m 6’5”. Will the deflectors reduce this wind as well? It seems as though they would not help this situation - but if you think they will work, though I’m not a big fan of the look, I’ll definitely try adding them. Second question: I am considering the taller – wider windshield because ..well I’m taller and wider. Has anyone had experience with these?
  5. on his knee playing baseball last night. Very swollen and he can't walk on it so it looks like the trip to the Hub is not gonna happen. Now we are asking for a miracle from the LORD and anyone inclined to help in that respect would be appreciated. If the LORD wills it then a miracle would put him back on his feet. Wayne
  6. When I bought the bike, I got a bike barn ( http://www.thebikebarn.net/tourermodel.html ) and it has pressure treated plywood floor. Well, I learned today the dew on the wood make for nasty bruises. Foot slipped as I was just hitting the three inch ramp a the front... Got my feet back under me in time to catch it from falling over... But I kicked the drivers floor board on the right side so hard, I thought I broke my leg. I was scared to put my foot down but had no choice. When she didn't fold like a chair I knew it wasn't broken... But Goramitt that hurt! Allot!!:sign **** happens:
  7. Got home from work and my wife says, "you're taking me for a ride aren't you?" Never one to say no to that, we saddled up and set out to places unknown. We found ourselves on this narrow backroad that ended at a stop sign on a fairly steep hill that was banked a little to the left. The cross road was right at a curve. Tough to see either direction. Looked good. Turned sharp left and ended up on the ground. Nothing hurt but my pride. Almost exact same scenario as the last time. But this time Brenda felt it going and was able to hop off. We both landed on our feet. A voice from the woods hollered out and asked if we needed help. Didn't see anybody. We might have been near Freddy Kreuger's place. Oh, this was the first time I got to try to lift the bike "the right way." Piece o' cake! $5 on it's way!
  8. since my crash in Aug. 29- 08. Got me a 2009 V star Tourer last monday. Looked at for a whole week before getting enought nerve to get on and try it. This morning was a super nice day, so I put on a heavey pair of wool sockes cause I was getting cold feet. After1/2 a block I was good to go. Went for a 120 mile ride, man did that feel good. Suppose to rain all next week. Now that I know that I can handle it can't wait to go again. Ride safe Bob.:big-grin-emoticon:
  9. KISSED BY AN ALASKAN MOOSE You folks who live in the "Boonies" should be able to relate to this. The fellow in the picture is standing on his back deck which is about two feet off the ground. He is about 6' 1" and 250 pounds. So she is a fair sized critter.
  10. This evening at about 6:30, Laura and I decided to ride out in the cage and get a bite to eat. We were driving on a four lane city street that has a divided island except for an occasional turn through to the left. The speed limit is 40mph. We were going to be making a right turn at an intersection and there is a turning lane that is several hundred feet long. Before this one, there is another turning lane that goes into a small business district, but it ends and goes back to two lanes for just a hundred feet or so. The problem is when a person turns into the first turning lane, meaning to turn into the second. This area of the street is marginally lit with street lights and when I was coming up to the turn lane, I hesitated for a second to make sure I was not going into the first one. As I looked forward from checking the mirror, I realized I was about to hit a guy that was walking across the street, at least 200 feet from the intersection in dark clothes and absolutely oblivious to oncoming traffic. I barely missed him and realized that if I had not hesitated for a second or two to go into the turning lane, I may have centered him at about 25mph. It scared the crap out of me. He did not seem to get in any hurry to get out of the street. It just made me realize how quickly our lives can change, even when we think we are doing things the right way. RandyA
  11. What do you guys wear for winter boots that keep your feet warm? I have a pair of SIDI on the road boots that do a fair job of keeping my feet warm but I want something better that is also waterproof. ttew47
  12. I find it amazing that this photo, taken so many years ago, actually still exists! And now, someone has put it online for all of us to see. This INCREDIBLE picture was taken in 1918. It is 18,000 men preparing for war in a training camp at Camp Dodge , in Iowa. EIGHTEEN THOUSAND MEN!!!!! what a priceless gift from our grandfathers! http://f814.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f66920%5fAIHHjkQAAUsdSWbi%2bQxE6Cz4%2bsU&pid=2.2.2.2&fid=Inbox&inline=1 FACTS: Base to Shoulder: 150 feet Right Arm: 340 feet Widest part of arm holding torch: 12 1/2 feet Right thumb: 35 feet Thickest part of body: 29 feet Left hand length: 30 feet Face: 60 feet Nose: 21 feet Longest spike of head piece: 70 feet Torch and flame combined: 980 feet Number of men in flame of torch: 12,000 Number of men in torch: 2,800 Number of men in right arm: 1,200 Number of men in body, head and balance of figure only: 2,000 Total men: 18,000

  14. Hello all, I am considering having my seat shaved on the Venture and was just wanting to hear from some people who have had it done. The bike fits me pretty well but i would like to have my feet more flat on the ground and was wondering how much this helps. I guess a few of my questions/concerns would be...... How much does it cost? Does it effect the comfort of the seat any at all? Is the foam shaved off the top off the seat or the sides, or both? Who on here does it and how can i contact him? I lowered the bike with the Barons rear lowering kit and it really helped alot and didn't have any negative effects on the bikes handling but it still wouldn't mind my feet being just a tad more secure on the ground. If shaving the seat will affect my comfort on long rides then i don't want to do it because as i said i am really ok with the bike, but if i can get my feet on the ground better without sacrificing any comort then i would like to have this done. It's way too cold to ride here in Ohio and i'm thinking this would be a good time to do this mod. I would apprciate your responses on this if you have had this done to your bike. You can reply here or just send me an email here on the site. Thanks in advance.
  15. Ok, I was checking out Alaska Leather last week and came across sheepskin insoles. Now my riding boots don't have insoles anymore thanks to Krome Roses Boston Terrier so I decided to give these a try. I bought a pair of each thick and thin. Well this morning I decided to test the thick pair out and rode to work without my customary electric socks, it was 34 degrees. Normally I would have my electric socks and gloves for anything under 40 degrees but this morning I just wore the gloves along with long johns, leather chaps, and a leather jacket. Without the electric socks in 34 degree temps my feet get unbearably cold within 20 minutes, and we all know that once the feet get cold the ride is no longer fun. Well with the thick sheepskin insoles my feet bordered on being TOO HOT, I actually had to put my feet on the highway pegs about 30 min into the ride. So if you are looking for a cheap alternative to electric socks I highly recommend them. As a bonus they are VERY comfortable. http://www.alaskaleather.com/onlinestore.html They are about mid way down the page. Oh yeah I got some of that Monkey Butt Powder to give it a try and I am impressed with it also. I ordered it on Tuesday and received it on Friday, can't complain about that. These folks have always done me right.
  16. Well some of you know that my wife and I spent a bit of time getting our scuba open water certifications. The classes were fun, but a lot of work. we completed our open water (meaning we can dive up to 130 feet deep) about 3 weeks ago. We went on our first real dives week before last on vacation. What a thrill. We took 4 dives from a boat and one shore dive over a three day period. The fish and coral we saw were amazing - sea turtles, moray eels, zebra eels, star fish, sharks, and more fish than I could name. One of the real thrills was petting and holding an octopus. The dive master signaled for us to sit still a minute and he swam away about 15 feet and came back with an octopus with a head about the size of a dinner plate. Got to hold it. Absolutely amazing. It was incredible being 90 feet below the surface and able to see 200 feet away with perfect clarity. I cannot wait to get underwater again!
  17. I note that a lot of people here complain about the 2nd Gen RSV has poor low speed handling, so they go about changing the bike by adding "leveling links", lowering the front end or by putting a narrower front tire on, or a combination of these. However I note on page 9-1 of my Owners Manual that it states that the RSV's Minimum turning radius is 3500 mm (137.8 in). This equates to a little under 11.5 feet..................... Who has the guts to do a U-turn in under 12 feet in stock trim????? I am TRYING to do it...... More practice and more part number 4NK-27496-00-00 and 4NK-27497-00-00 might be required. Now for the challenge: How tight of a U-turn can you do? Also please state any modifications to your suspension like in the first paragraphs of this post. If you have any modifications, I would expect you to be able to U-Turn in under 11.5 feet... BTW the MSF course double U turn box is either 24 or 20 feet wide while most police motor officer training courses are set at a MAXIMUM of 18 feet... Click HERE for a range.
  18. Well Ive read MANY threads about peoples concerns taking their RSV to the Mountains. Last year we went as high as 12600 feet iAt Ft Collins,Co, a pop or two was all that I noticed. This week Debby and I are in Ouray,Colorado and have been to 12220 feet and NO pop at all. My friends cant believe a carbureted bike can take these altitudes like mine is doing. Alot of HD riders up here but everyone has been very friendly. We took a day trip to Arches Natl Park yesterday,420 round trip, and it was beautiful but HOT! The big arch that was most recognizable fell 2 weeks ago so no pics of it!.Will post more pics when i get bored. Tom
  19. I'm trying to locate the boundary lines of a certain plot containing .008 acres of land. What I would like to see is a land plot drawing of the following. The reference is West Virginia Plane Coordinate System South Zone. 1. Beginning at a corner South 30 degrees 03' East 25 feet. 2. South 08 degrees 04' West 128 ft to the intersection of new right of way 3. South 86 degrees 24' West 15 feet 4. North 38 degrees 17' West 18 feet to a corner 5. North 12 degrees 45' East 140 feet to place of beginning. Is this a 4 or 5 sided land tract. I would love to have a software program that would draw a scale model of this plot. This is a piece the Government purchased to modify a section of road years ago. I have located a metal stake which is one of the boundaries in this section but can not locate the other boundary markers to see if any of this crosses what I believe to be my lot.Is it possible to follow this with a compass? Not ready to pay $$$ yet for survey.
  20. My six year old son is wanting to ride with me on the 2000 RSV and his legs are not long enough for his feet to reach the floorboards yet. Does anyone know of a bracket to make the floorboards raise up to the saddlebag lids?
  21. rode my new wing over 300 miles today and these darn footpegs are dealing me a fit. they are exactly in the position where i have to put mt feet down when i stop, and they really stick out there. having one heck of a time timing putting my feet down and stopping. it is really getting frustrating. i almost feel like a newby rider. it is worst then my rstd was at low speeds. other than that it is awesome. any of you goldwing boys got any ideas? bill:2133:
  22. Hi everyone, I have a 2006 RSTD and have read several posts (and Freebird's excellent detailed step-by-step picture show - Thanks!) regarding 17.5 pilots and going up one size on all main jets. I have a question about altitude. I am at 3500 feet in Calgary, AB and often travel the Rockies at 6000 ft plus... I have K&Ns, BUB slipons and the Dyna ignition module. Has anyone with similar equipment run for long periods at 3500 - 6000 feet? If so, how did the richer mixture work out? I'm for anything that adds smooth and more HPs but don't want to go the wrong direction and end up too rich.... Oh and I pull an Aspen Classic which is large as trailers go - probably 500 pounds loaded

  24. Is there another vendor who makes air wings other than Baker? I would like to compare the products. I saw in a earlier post that some where made using alluminum plate are there any pictures and/or fabrication information? I am mainly looking into the lower wings that protect the feet. I have the crashbar chaps by Airlite on my Nomad and they are great ! Easy on and off with velcro... http://www.airlite.ca/page_images/1/kawasaki_nomad_engine_guard.jpgt. Any other ideas ? Dave
  25. I knew is was in trouble when I went out this morning. I slid the front end of the 89 crossing the creek. Leaving the house going out is the easiest way because the bike is squared up going out. Crossing coming back is a slight down hill right turn then square up when your in the creek if your lucky. Last year I dropped the 89 with MamaMo on it coming back from Freebirds maint day event. This was the first ride of the year on the 89 so I chanced it. I had a nice ride but crossing back to the house I lost control of the front end before I could get the bike squared up. I had to put the feet down in the water to balance the bike and there I was. Stopped in the middle of the creek with water over both boots. The creek is so slick I'm sliding my feet on the glassy algie covered rock surface just setting still. Let the clutch out to ease across the creek dragging my feet and the scoot won't move. The rear tires is spinning just setting still. At a moment like this you ask your self what would a more experienced rider like Muffinman,Skid, or Yammer Dan do? Probably the same thing dad and my brother is doing (watching laughing there a## off). After about 5 minutes of inching the scoot forward trying to keep it balanced I made it out without dropping it. Tune in next week when Froggy's new camp gets a 60 inch wide side door. I'm tired of this #@*^.
