  1. I would like to borrow one to check my carbs. I am from Terre Haute but will probably be riding to Indianapolis on Thursday so if anyone around those areas has one let me know. Also if you have experience syncing carbs and wouldn't mind helping me I would REALLY appreciate it as I have never done it before. I would even buy you a steak dinner as a thankyou!
  2. For our first time, we went to a local restraunt 'Quaker Steak & Lube' for a weekly 'Bike Night'. WOW!!! There were MANY bikes there, much more than I expected. There had to be over 1000 bikes there!. After we ate, we walked around the 'bikes only' parking lot to check out the bikes. I have an 07 Venture, and was surprised that mine was the only Venture there - Unless one showed up after we left. It was probably 75% HDs with the rest being a mix of Crotch Rockets & everything else. It was quite an experience for us and we really enjoyed all of the people watching. My wife ran into a guy that she grew up with and hasn't seen in years. We plan to do it again sometime. craigr
  3. I ordered a new clutch today from pcw racing. I got the one with everything. It was 163.00 with shipping. I will probably have alot of questions so be prepared. I printed off Freebirds instructions. I have never been in a motorcycle clutch before. It will be a new experience (hopefully a good one). Should be here by this weekend. Stay tuned. Thanks hairman:thumbsup:
  4. I was looking at http://www.oldbikebarn.com and see they have some parts for the first gens. I see they have carb boots and the slide diaphragms for the carbs. Has anyone dealt with this company before and if so, what was your experience. Thanks Rick F
  5. Thinking of dressing up my ride a bit more and came across the Wizard 7-in-1 programmable light set. Anyone familiar with these? Anyone have any experience with these? Would love to hear something about them before I lay out the cash. Thanks.... http://www.customdynamics.com/wizard_lights_color_changing_led_accent_lights.htm.htm Bluez
  6. Our Granddaughter Ella's first snow experience. Yama Mama:big-grin-emoticon:
  7. I am thinking about looking for something with ABS to replace the Venture. I have never been very comfortable trying to bring that heavy bike to a quick stop when it is loaded with gear and a passenger. I am 6'6" and need some room so I don't think a goldwing or BMW would be an option any body have some experience with any of the other choices. From what I have seen so far it is looking like Harley may be the only real choice. Let me hear your thoughts.
  8. I was wondering if anyone has purchased one of these covers from this company for their RSV. If so was it a good experience and good quality. It looks like a decent idea as it is compact. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks Jim http://www.tourkingcovers.com/shop/
  9. Went for a ride the other day and when I got home and started to gather my belongings I went to open the trunk and it went up 1/2 way. I gave it a reasonable pull but it didn't seem to want to budge? Anyone have any experience with this. I haven't tried too hard yet but if somone has a short cut fix I will not be offended;) Thanks in advance Mark
  10. Some students at our local high school have become interested in motorcycle mechanic training at Universal Technical Institute or Motorcycle Mechanics Institute. Has anyone had any experience with them or talked to anyone who has gone there? Iowa Guy
  11. Does anyone have experience with blue tooth communicating?
  12. Hello all I have a 2005 midnight RSV, I broke one of the stud that secures the drive seat. I was wondering if anyone have had a similar experience and if it can be repaired. thanks for any help with this problem
  13. I see lots of discussion regarding Avon Venom, Metzler Marathon, and Dunlop Elite tires on the forum. I was wondering if anyone has used the Maxxis brand tires, and if so, can you give an evaluation of your experience. Thx.
  14. Looking for someone with experience with this. I am looking at buying a MCT trailer from a company in Iowa, pick it up hopefully with the bike and bring it back to Ontario Canada. Does anyone have experience with what happens at the Canadian border when I tow it in? Is it easy to register it in Ontario? Any advice is always appreciated. Jim
  15. I just wanted to tell of a great experience here. Many of you know of my engine knocking issue and many of the bigger brains on this site are scratching their heads along with me. This morning I played a long shot and called PCW Racing and asked them the question. For those of you who have done clutches and read my article on this they are the supplier of the upgrade parts I recommend. Well I got John on the phone and was amazed with all the time he was willing to spend with me on the phone and trouble shoot and ask questions. I felt like I was wasting his time but he told me I could have as much as I needed and he really cared! Well I have some great ideas of what to check and what certain things mean. Basically he filled my head with knowledge that only experience brings and now I know what to look for! Thanks John again for you patience and willingness to help! Now the shameless plug. If anyone needs clutch stuff please call them. www.pcwracing.net Also for those who want a little more power they make all kinds fo stuff to get more out of out motors. Im really thinking of doing their 1500 kit on mine if it needs to come apart. He tells me that it will give me about 25% more torque and that is quite a kick in the butt. Check it out!
  16. Does anyone have an idea as to what we can expect? 2009 MODEL INTRO http://starmotorcycles.com/assets/star/base/flex-line.gifhttp://starmotorcycles.com/assets/common/blank.gifhttp://starmotorcycles.com/assets/common/blank.gif Experience new models Monday September 8, 2008 3 PM Eastern
  17. At picking a guitar, go to you tube a listen to "Doc Watson" , play the "BLACK MOUNTAIN RAG", AMONG OTHERS. TRULY AN HUMBLING EXPERIENCE! i went there to listen to one song, and spent a whole hour , there. just jt you hear me "strat cat"? lol
  18. What are you views on driving lights. Are they a good idea for night driving? Any experience?
  19. Just got to experience my first flat on my '07 RSV. Exiting the interstate I felt the bike wobbling and the back tire went flat. Ended up having to have a wrecker come with a cycle trailer to get me. In 106°F heat it was a "trying" experience. Guess 9k on the tire indicates that it is time for a new one. The rear tread looks like there is quite a bit of wear left, but with the heat and running 75 mph or so for 60 miles might have taken a toll on the tire.
  20. A friend of my seems to think his new Ultra with new exhaust will hang with my Venture. I'm not the racing type, especially with friends but I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later. We've both got a lot of years riding experience. What can I expect the outcome to be, besides still being best friends. Eddie

    Good vendor experience

A couple of weeks ago when Gary N was visiting, he showed me a headset that he had purchased from Sierra Electronics. It is a headset for a half helmet, and something that I was looking to get for myself. I wound finding a canadian distributor out of Quebec, and emailed him to ask him a couple of questions. He responded within the day. I then proceeded to place an order via their website - again, within the day, he had called me back to confirm that what I order was actually what I wanted, and within 48 hours (today), the unit was shipped to my house. Although he is slightly higher (CDN$80) than what you can get online direct from Sierra (US$75), the lack of having to go through customs, paying the cross-border charges and all that, make him more economical and from my experienced, these people sure are customer-focused. Just thought I'd share a positive vendor experience! They are: IMC Communication @ http://www.imc-communication.com/index.php?set_lang=A Cheers,
  22. doing my first tranny rebuild and got it upside down and another parts bike on its side the guys at the xs/xj site say this is easier. got the clutch out and middle drive out and shifter cover off and "think" I see the problem one the one I am trying to fix but not sure if a) the parts bike tranny is good and, b) the best way to remove the trannys and shift drums. anyone with experience with a xs1100 tranny I would love to hear from you.
  23. Regarding purchasing a Zumo 550, I found this on the net. Price is the lowest I have ever found http://www.86photovideo.com/products.asp?product_id=18765 But sometimes, best price may not be the best deal. Just wondering if anyone has good/bad experience with these quys. Cheers
  24. I want to purchased brake pads front and rear to keep in stock for my 06 Venture. Any favorite brand and type? Any good or bad experience? Not looking for the cheapest nor for GP types, just a good set.
