I have just finished rebuilding the clutch slave cylinder, new O ring, pin and compression spring on the nautral safety switch, all new exhaust gaskets and silencers., but still getting this coolant smell. Looks like the light smoke is coming from the exhaust chamber and rising up. There isn't any oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil. While I had the exhause off, I did a good cleaning of the bottom of the engine and all parts I had off. I did all of the fore mentioned to find this burning coolant smell problem. What lead me to tearing the exhaust off is I thought I had a coolant leak, but never any puddles. Before doing all this along with the burning coolant smell, there was also water coming out of the exhaust mufflers,(still is). This is a 1989 XVZ1300 I bought about a year and a half ago and only ridden maybe 7 or 8 miles,(been trying to get things done to get a sidecar on it). I noticed it at first and the previous owner had told me he had just spilt some coolant when filling it, I think he knew better and that's why he sold it. But my problem now and need to get it taken care of so I can finish it. Any help would be great.

Exhaust Help Needed
SoldierBoy55B posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Greetings, I am starting a rebuild on my 83 1st Gen, I've reviewed the exhaust threads on the website, Does anyone have model or part numbers for replacement exhaust's. MY original exhaust pipes are starting to rust out on the bottom. I'm not looking to sound like a Harley, but a little rumble would be nice. Here in MN, Metric guys are left in the dark since HD's are huge here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -
Do anyone know where I can find dual exhaust tips for 89 vr

A local has a set of BuB exhaust forsale. Who has them and what do you think of them? I'm seriously thinking about them. He had them on his bike for one season then sold his bike.

Is there a trick to tighten the front lower exhaust bolts? How do you get to them?
-
What do you think? Which are the better deal? Considering changing and don't know which way to go.

There is a rattle in my exhaust that sounds like a piece of loose metal in the exhaust. While the bike is running, I was listening to the exhaust from both sides and it se4emed to be slightly louder on the right side. So I shut the bike off, and pulled the right side exhaust. After removing it, and checking for any debris in the muffler, I removed the left side and did the same. After ensuring both were clear, I fired the bike up while they were off. Without the mufflers, the rattle became more of a banging sound. I shut the bike off again, and raised it up. I took a rubber mallet and started tapping on the remaining parts of the exhaust and found that I could here the noise when I tapped on the exhaust chamber. My initial thought was that one or more of the inner pipes of the chamber had broke loose. I made the decision to try to locate a new or used chamber, so I could replace it and do away with the noise. I was unable to find a used one, and the new one I found was nearly $600.00. So I have ruled that out. I am wondering if there is any way to repair this or if anybody may have a spare. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

I just bought a 1984 venture Royale 1200 that runs perfect but has leaky carbs. Before I tear into them, I was wondering what would be considered the best bvang for the buck on the intake and exhaust. Nothing like asking those with a background. I found several threads but not about both together. I have heard about a k&N filter, multiple pods with airbox removal, and tons of ideas on the exhaust and the carb jetting. I guess I'd like to just get it all broken down to the ins and outs of things!

I been wanting to change the exhaust on my RSV now for a while. It's all most impossible to find a used set of exhaust for the RSV. I heard most of them, and liked the sound of the Khromewerks the most. I'm giving up on trying to find a exhaust system ( slip on's ) and am looking into buying some HD exhaust slip on, being the HD exhaust are so much easyer to find Whats involed with adding the HD slip on's to the RSV? Also, any suggestions as to which HD exhaust fits the RSV? I did find these on our firms here , and wondering what they sound like, and whats needed to add them onto the bike: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2157/cat/7 Another concern we had, was the Khromewerks slip on's wasn't to loud. We wanted a nice deep rumble out the back, but somthing that wasn't to over welming that would over power the radio and communcation's, as we ride allot 2-UP, but also wanted somthing for the Friday night rides, where we want to crack the throttle and hear the exhaust, like the HD's. Thanks for your help

Recently had exhaust Y repaired on bike under warranty, successfully I might add, but now I have discovered exhaust blowing through small holes (2) underneath each rear pipe section. Is this normal? I originally thought they were for moisture drainage. Can someone shed some light on this for me. Thanks, Ebabe

Will a louder exhaust sound cover some of that whinning from the clutch? I was just wondering if anyone that has put aftermarket exhaust on or modified the stock mufflers has noticed any reduction of the whinning. Thanks S. Allen

Just installed some Harley Road King exhaust and Clearview shield. I know, I will submit pictures soon. Got the exhaust off of Ebay for $50.00 and they also had the 2 inch chrome exhaust clamp which looks great. The Clearview shield is excellent! I like the forward vent it has and the light tent. It is shorter and wider than stock and the lowers are also bigger. The bike sounds really good and the sheild is wonderful. Pictures to come soon. Mark:12101:

So I've put about 2000 miles on my 86 in the last six weeks. I LIKE IT! Alot more bike than an 83. But since I've only owned 83's (5) I have a few questions. 1. RPM. I'm at 4000 at 70 mph. Is that right? Seems high 2. Gas milage I'm only getting about 32mpg. I got about 40 on the 83's 3. Are the stator and clutch the same as the 83? 4. Fork tubes. Are the 86 and 83 the same? 5. Is the exhaust the same? 6. What is the BEST clutch setup to put in an 86. I ride hard with lots of weight and trailer Thanx for your help oh great venture guru's

:farmer:Thanks to this group I determined my left bank exhaut at the Y was cracked and will soon be repaired under warranty. For the last 7K miles I have been smelling exhaust more than normal, but I could not pick up the odor close to the head connections. Put my hand under the Y and low and behold the leak showed its ugly head. Had no other indication, ie noise, etc. Hope others will check as I did. My bike is an 05 liquid silver. Love it, love it. 14k miles and this is only warranty work.

I have a popping and burbling on my right exhaust pipe, especially on decelleration.AIS has been plugged.Resynced the carbs yesterday with Morgan Carb Tune.I had a set of Harley Street Glide pipes on it,found an exhaust leak at the clamp and thought that was what was causing the problem.Removed them and put stock exhaust with the end baffle removed back on.Still have the same problem.I checked the Y pipe for a leak and cannot see one,but that doen't mean its not there.Left side does not do this.It is smooth, like it is supposed to be.It is still under warranty, but if its not warranty work,My dealer where I bought the bike charges $120 per hour.I can't afford that right now.I hope some one here can help.Any ideas? The bike has 8500 miles on it and is a 2007 RSV.I thught about changing plugs. I don't think it will help, but stranger things have happened.

I purchased a 96' royal star tour classic that has the four individual pipes and was wondering if I could install a newer set of two into one exhaust from a newer bike such as a royal star tourer deluxe or venture. I know I might have to modify some but I can do. Thanks for info. Or where I might find some slip ons for what I have. Anyone Know????

Let me try this again; I have hot, as in extreme, air coming of the engine. I pulled the exhaust and found a crack in the downtube and collector as well as broken welds on the collectors mounting bracket. I fixed those, reassembled, thought I had it fixed and suddenly there was that wisp of hot air again. Took it apart again found a pinhole in the downtube they missed when welding and reinstalled with new crushwashers. The other gaskets are in good condition! Went to Rome GA, all was well for the first three hours!! during the last half hour both Brenda and I could feel the heat coming up, by the time we got to Fudruckers things were back to normal. On the way back we had no problem going down to Atlanta but halfway between Atlanta and Greenville, it got bad enough that I had to put my legs on the pegs to get some relief. I locked the throttle for a bit and rested my elbow on Brenda's knee and you could feel the wave of hot air rushing up and out between my thigh and her shin. So in short: -engine temp is consistently showing midway in the green. -weather /driving speed is not a factor, -I have a heat problem that comes and goes. I know RandyA says heat is no problem with shorts on, Randy come ride my bike and make that claim. Folks, I would love to hear some options, why would this not be consistent? If it is exhaust should it not be consitently hot? Where might this be coming from if not the exhaust? How do you trace something that is intermittent and burried under all kinds of plastic? I took the darn pipes of twice now for this and I'm gonna have to find the source of this dadburn bun burner, cause it ain't no fun. This is war!!! I know I could argue winter is coming and I currently have a build in forced air heater, so why complain, but that is hardly the point

I'm not sure so I've come to the experts here. I have a 2006 RSTD but am wondering if these pipes off a 2006 venture will fit. I presently have BUB exhaust on the bike so am hoping the venture pipes will slip on. Here's the ad: Exhaust came off a 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Midnight Venture with 500 miles for a trike conversion. Like new condition thanks Greg
