  1. I never knew this. Penguins http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f6603%5fAIEIw0MAAHnWTWJlhgA9enP9khE&pid=2&fid=Inbox&inline=1 Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in Antarctica - where do they go? Wonder no more ! ! ! It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life. The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as maintaining a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life. If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into and buried. The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and sing: "Freeze a jolly good fellow" "Freeze a jolly good fellow." "Then they kick him in the ice hole." http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f6603%5fAIEIw0MAAHnWTWJlhgA9enP9khE&pid=3&fid=Inbox&inline=1 You really didn't believe that I know anything about penguins, did you? It's so easy to fool OLD people. I am sorry, the devil made me do it!!! I fell for it too.

  4. Banking problem explained Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a donkey from a farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died.' Chuck replied, 'Well, then just give me my money back.' The farmer said, 'Can't do that. I went and spent it already.' Chuck said, 'OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.' The farmer asked, 'What ya gonna do with him? Chuck said, 'I'm going to raffle him off.' The farmer said 'You can't raffle off a dead donkey!' Chuck said, 'Sure I can Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead.' A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey?' Chuck said, 'I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars apiece and made a profit of $898.00.' The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?' Chuck said, 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back.' Chuck now works for Goldman Sachs.
  5. Can anyone tell me why my CB only works before noon. It usually works fine when we 1st take off then later in the day I can be heard but I can't hear anything but a dead key. If anyone has had this problem please tell me what to do to fix this problem.
  6. Your Duck is Dead-- A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away." The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet.. "How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something." The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!" The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."
  7. I keep having a problem with my battery going dead. I rode my bike last thursday and didn't get to ride it this weekend because of the weather. I went out this morning to ride it to work and the battery is dead. A couple of months ago my dealer kept it for 2 weeks and checked everything on the bike and determined the recifier was bad so he replaced it and my battery under warranty. Now it's dead again. Man this is frustrating. I guess I better get back to the dealer as my warranty expires 9/3.
  8. Was starting bike for the first time and it roared right up. Was going to put it on a couple blocks so I could get a jack underneath to change tire and it flat out died. Nothing. I had taken the saddlebags off and had the wires hanging from the amp and figured I had shorted out a fuse when it died. I mean dead, nothing turns on at all. Checked the fuses and their fine. Any suggestions for my 05RSTD? God Bless. Mike
  9. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37971 (look at first post) In one of the old Shindengen regulator/rectifier threads, someone mentioned using a XV535 regulator/rectifier on a VR. Since I have an XV535 with a dead R/R, is it possible to use one of the Shindengens that were part of the group buy (from last year) to replace the dead one? The connectors look different to me but maybe I need to be more creative. (And yes, on the Virago 535 I have, the R/R is buried on the backside of the engine and very difficult to get a good look at the rectifier itself.) Another reason that I ask this question -- the XV535 R/R is allegedly the same as the one listed for that vintage VMAX. Could it be the same as the original R/R for the VR?
  10. I am playing with a couple ideas for the 1st Gen. stereo. I am looking for a couple dead cassette players. All I am looking for is an intact casing and top bezel. I don't care about the buttons or the cassette door. JB
  11. Sorry to repost this one folks.. My radio bit the dust the other week and still no dice trying to get it to work. I put my buddy's radio in it and that works.. so i know my unit it dead or something is amiss with that box. Does anyone know what the YELLOW banded cable does? When I pulled the connectors apart to take the radio out, the protective outter cap came off, so I'm wondering if perhaps I broke something in there etc etc..
  12. This looks bad, really bad. Just reported on the news: http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/traffic/dump-truck-motorcycle-crash-3-25-2010 Multiple bikes down, several riders dead, hit by a dump-truck.
  13. I posted about this earlier. When I got back from maintenance day last year my battery went dead. I have replaced the battery twice since then but it would go dead unless I kept it on the battery tender. I took my bike to the dealer for the 48,000 mile service and asked them to find my problem. The dealer just called, my bike is ready. The rectifier was bad. I hope this is covered under warranty. I will find out tomorrow.
  14. Pinion bearings failed, can't get the outer race out of the rear drive unit.the outer race is still in the housing. It would appear that this remaining race has been staked by what ever has marred the housing around the periphery of that bore which the outer race mates to. It is my assumption that the needle bearing into a (blind hole), (terminology?) would be of a slip fit. I may just be beating a dead horse trying to fix it, but I can't ride, what else can I do while I watch for one on ebay! Any one got a used pumpkin for a second Gen they want to part with?
  15. Does it seem to you all that car/mcy batteries just dont seem to last as long anymore? I mean I remember when most of my car batteries lasted more than 4 years, some 5 years. I bought my Chevy Trailblazer new in 2002. I just now put in its 4th battery today. Had lunch at Mojos BBQ and came out and the truck was dead. Nice waitress boosted me and I made it home. Yep, she was stone cold dead again. Load test showed a bad battery. DMM says its charging so im good there. Original died at 2 year mark while the others made it 2 1/2 years before they too pooped out. The last 2 were Napa Batteries. Replaced it with a battery from O'reilly's Auto Parts. 84 month warranty with the first 3 years free exchange. Figure if I get another 2 1/2 out of it at least it will be replaced for free.
  16. I've been here for quite some time, but i have not seen one person in the chat rooms, is it dead or what? -CJ
  17. Has anyone one heard of placing a few drops of javex in each cell in half dead battery to get a full charge?? ??
  18. Weather is supposed to be beautiful Sunday with temps in the low 80's so were heasding to Tampa (Brandon) for a nice Sunday ride to see mom in law. (Ok so there has to be a hitch somewhere, right? ) So if you see an absolutely drop dead beautiful 99 silver RSV with an equally stunning driver STOP HIM...he stole my bike.....
  19. I purchased a 87 VR with 68K on Friday. The bike has been sitting for 5 years or better, last registered in 99. Went through the carbs over the weekend and she fired right up, sorta. At first I thought I had a dead charging system. I cleaned the connectors and now have 13.63 V going to a new battery. However, after pulling and cleaning a bunch of connectors, I have a dead tach. Re-checked everything and no luck. I also have a number one cylinder that is not pulling its weight. I will check valve clearence and do a compression test on that issue at a later time. The tach was working before, and I can't get the engine to respond to throttle input, I know the cylinder dragging is part of the issue, however it should slowly gain RPM's. Are there known issues with ECM's on these bikes? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I was a BMW / Kawasaki tech in a former life, but that was eons ago. Yams are a little greek to me. Looking forward to a long relationship with this particular bike. Once again, thanks for any hints. Longrider805
  20. I bought my bike new in 9/05. Never had a problem with the battery. Went to maintenance day @ Freebirds and installed a mic mute. Parked bike for a week after getting home. Bike wouldn't start because the battery was dead. Bought a new battery and it worked fine for several weeks. Rode all day one saturday and parked bike until the next saturday. Battery dead again. Called the dealer that sold me the battery and they asked me to bring it in and they would test it. The battery was so dead they couldn't get a reading so they replaced it with a new battery at no charge. Shock! The new battery worked fine. I hadn't ridden the bike in a week so sunday I started the bike and let it run a few minutes and switched if off. I could tell the battery was fine sunday because as soon as I switched on the bike you could hear the fuel pump ticking fast with full force. This morning I went to start the bike to ride to work and the battery is dead. Could I have done something when I installed the mic mute to cause this?
  21. Ok I am running out of options. I got today a used TCI from a great member here and unfortunately it was bad. I cant find any on Ebay and I need one to hopefully finish out this years riding season. I'm going to tear into my Dead TCI as I have nothing to lose and see what is up, but without a schematic or any way to test it in a live working system I'll be shooting in the dark. I heard that an 84 TCI will run an 83 just not perfectly, Oh well it will get me on the road. So if you have a working TCI I'm after it. if you have a DEAD TCI I'd love it for the parts to see if I can fix mine. Thanks guys.
  22. I just purchased an 89 Venture Royale. This is now my fourth Venture Royale so I do have some experience maintaining these bikes. However this is the 1st time I have had any problems with the computer monitor system. I researched this forum and found info on resoldering the boards and checking the fuses. My monitor is completely dead. Nothing shows on the screen at all. I removed the monitor last night. All the connections were clean and tight. The boards look good with no obvious signs of anything wrong with them. All fuses are ok with the mounting tangs in good shape and tight. Everything else electrical on this bike works fine. The only problem I have is the computer monitor is dead. Does anyone know what readings I should get on the pins in the connectors to the monitor? What the pinouts are for these connectors? Anything else I can check to figure out if it's the computer monitor or something else in the wiring? Anyone have a spare I can borrow to try or buy? Thanks in advance for any help.
  23. Okay folks. I just killed the thread on the Sns of Silenc. Although there was nothing wrong with the initial thread talking about the experience, some folks have to jump in and start sending it south. So it's dead.
  24. Good evening all. Just came in from the garage where I was beating myself up with this problem, i.e, #2 air valve not responding to throttle whatsoever. I ensured the vacuum port was clean and clear by squirting B12 through the port and it exiting from the top of the carb; then used moderately high pressure air with the same results. The diaphragm is good, no holes, no tears and attached with no separation. The small oring was/is in place. Carbs sync perfectly creating 24 mb of hg at idle (1050 rpm). Plug is firing. Good vacuum at the boost sensor vacuum port on the carb manifold. Everything checks out except for a dead air valve. What the h....! I have two more nights to figure this out or I am left with taking my Ultra to the rally. I really won't mind doing that but I would much rather ride the Venture because it is a much better bike. Any more ideas. H______E_______L________P!!!!
  25. This should be really interesting - Watching golf on the telly and heard that Steve McNair was found SHOT dead. gunfight ? - guns in a club ? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there's more to this than the media is going to print
