  1. I have been working with one of our members, helping him install a CLASS system in an 88 standard 1st gen. He got a bad controller from ebay. He sent me his controller & compressor to check. The compressor is fine. Control head has deeper problems than the solder joint repair. I swapped my lower board with his and it did not correct problem. Also disassembled upper half of controller and saw no visible problems. Cleaned all contacts to no avail. If anyone could help a brother out, it would be appreciated by him. Gary
  2. In just the last 24 hours in 3 separate and unrelated incidents there have been 3 motorcycle fatalities in the Milwaukee area. one was due to a cage turning in front of the bike and the bike losing control while trying to avoid the cage, he died of head injuries with his helmet strapped to the bike. one was do to extreme speed and lose of control. Driver died immediately with traumatic amputations and passenger is critical. Last was a case where a cage found the wrecked bike and decesed rider on the side of the road, with no obvious cause of the crash. It was later determined that it was a bike deer crash. Lets all be careful out there. That is way to many hitting way to close to home.
  3. I need to adjust the slack in my throttle cable and the manual says to loosen the lock nut on the cruise control. I found the throttle cable. Where do they hide the cruise control unit It's an '07 Venture. (I gave up looking after a couple of minutes cause soup was on the table and I haven't got back to it) Thanks, John
  4. Cruise control will not stay on when set . The lights come on but when i set it for about 3to 5 sec it holds then lets go.
  5. I have bought an 05 Kawasaki Concourse and want to put a throttle lock on it because it doesn't have cruise control like my 89 RSV. What is the best to buy?
  6. So now that I have Ed-sets and have put some foam behind the helmet speakers,,, the music is awesome,,,, I actually listen to some of my tunes on my GPS. Seems everything good brings along something else to deal with. It's either I'm going deaf or Marca hears too well,,,, I think it's the later,,,,, either way, when I turn on the music she says it's a way too loud and so when I get it where she's happy, I can hardly hear it. So what I need now is a volume control that will fit the 5 pin cord that 83's to 85's come with. Is there such a thing?
  7. Recently acquired this bike (83 model) and have only ridden for about a week. I noted today that the cruise control will not engage. Could not find anything wrong with the fuses. I have not troubleshot beyond that. Any suggestions, or do I need to take it to a Yamaha tech?
  8. on my 89vr when i turn the throttle my headlight brightens & if I ride over an hour I get slow starts. Now I'am getting an E-4 reading on my compressor control unit. if anyone ha experince tis could you share. Thank you
  9. I have an 83 Venture Royale with the CLASS. I get an E4 error. According to the service manual, I believe I am not getting the necessary +/- 5.0 volts input voltage. If I tested this correctly, I checked the black/white and blue/yellow wire at the plug on the control unit itself (as opposed to the pressure senor). The troubleshooting diagram leads me to believe the unit is bad. My question is the following: which unit? Are they referring to the pressure sensor, or the CLASS control unit (the computer itself)? Edit: If it is the control unit, am I correct that the soldering process recommended here is a logical next step? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=493 I have already been to a junkyard looking for pressure sensor, but haven't found anything yet. Thanks.
  10. Does anyone know if it's possible to deactivate the crusie control "bump" switch? In other words, to keep the cruise control from automatically disengaging when hitting a large bump in the road. I realize this is a safety feature, but after installing a sidecar to my 2005 RSV, the extra movement from the hack, as well as the lovely roads here in NJ, cause my cruise control to disengage much more easily than when I was on 2 wheels. I'm hoping someone has an answer as I really miss being able to use cruise on the highway. Thanks in advance for any insight!!! Rob
  11. I have a 2006 RSV. I was out on the road over the weekend and my cruise control was out of control. When I would engage the cruise control it would start accelerating at a rapid speed all on its own. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!
  12. I have a question. I brought a 2000 venture mm and i was wondering if the speedometer is suppose to move like a speedometer in a car because mines sticks as I am accelerating and then when I let off the throttle it jumps to the speed I am going. The cruise control also wont stay engaged if the speed drops going up hill. I need to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and how they resolved it. Thanks for the help in advance.
  13. Just wanted to say thanks for the tip on the Barons bar extensions, installed mine this weekend( simple if you loosen brake control) and took my first ride with them on. Wow, total comfort! Bike fits me perfect now.
  14. Finally, my cruise control is working as it should and huh, even better than before. Late last fall, I had the local dealer techs installed braided steel throttle cables and clutch / brake hoses on my Midnight and after that, the cruise control stopped working.. it would simply not engage. Turn it on, green light.. press set, 2nd green light and gently release the throttle and plump... greens flashing and amber flashing and no cruise control.. ergh I took it back to the dealer this afternoon and lo and behold, after two attempts they got it working again. They admitted the books suck as to HOW to install the junction box properly, Goose had even submitted a bit of a how to, what to look for but I couldn't make head or tails of what I was seeing on the bike.. And well neither did the tech.. they tried this and that with the cable and Hmm something wasn't right. the FIX was the 3rd cable coming out of the junction box was binding. The tech who fixed it remembered doing the bike last fall and feels he might have caught the cable when closing up covers and panels etc. Lube and testing shows it works even better than before! SO.. before you get your braided steel cables installed, TEST drive your bike to ensure cruise control works.. And then when you get your bike back, TEST drive your bike again to make sure it work etc as apparently, its common for the cruise control to bunge up after this job.. 2.5 shop hours later, no bill.. Wow, a "DEALERship" did good on it's work.. and apologized for the inconvenience.. Wow, I'm impressed! (BTW, 3rd greens is 5th gear indicator lol) Cheers
  15. Has anyone installed a CD-625 cd changer? If I use a c-bus cable will it operate through my stock Yamaha control? Thanks Mike
  16. I have a 1989 Venture Royale. I’ve had in now for about 8 years and its been a good bike. Last fall the cruise control started acting up. Now when I set the cruise it will always drop about 8-10mph from where I set it. Also it intermittently turns off the cruise. I’ve checked the switch on the clutch and break levers and they seem to be ok. I’ve also held the clutch and break levers out with the cruise set and it still cuts out. Also a bad switch doesn’t explain why the cruise drops 8-10mph from where I set it. Both these problems occurred at the same time just all of a sudden. Any suggestions? I appreciate any help. Thanks
  17. Hey guys, ole Blondie has developed a hick up in her cruise control. I hit the button and the indicators come on normally, I push the set button and nothing happens. I can be riding along and try it several times and nothing then all of the suddent it works again. It might work all day or it might suddenly drop back out. When it drops out the indicator says its on stand by. Any ideas?? Thanks
  18. Hi to all, I have read some concerns about the cruise control but this is a bit different. When I set the cruise all is ok but when I rest my hand on the throttle the sightest twitch either way will disengage it. Is there a way to only have the cruise disengage using front or rear brakes. I like riding with both hands on my grips and tried adjusting throttle cable but still the same. Any help would be appreciated. Sreaming Red
  19. Does anyone have a cruise control brain they wish to sell? Its a black box behind the dash about 3"x4" part # 1NL-85830-00. Mine I just found out is ruined from my crash rebuilding the bike keep finding little things damaged.
  20. Has anyone ever seen or thought about making a control box that can plug into the existing CD player wiring (located in the saddle bag), then have an Ipod plugged into it, that converts the command signals from the built-in audio system to the Ipod, and also converts the audio from the Ipod back into the built-in audio system? (Whew, that was a long question.) I have seen other threads that just plug the Ipod into the existing Aux jack and use various wireless remotes to control it. It seems the holy grail though would be to use the existing CD interface that the bike already has. No extra wiring or remote. I am sure if the control box I describe existed, people would pay for it. I know I would.
  21. My 01 RSV volume control on the rear speakers do not work. Any ideas as to what the problem may be. Thanks Jinx56:doh:
  22. I found a great 92 Venture today and decided it needed a new home. The problem with it is the computer monitor system (CMS) does not work No fuel indication ETC.. Can anyone tell me where the CMS Control unit is located and maybe a part number. I know it's is behind the dash, but there is 4 black boxes behind the dash. If you have a CMS control unit shot me a price. I'm also looking for a stock seat. This one has a Corbin on it and it sets me up to high. You can e-mail me at pandlbiker@olp.net. Thanks Phill
  23. On my last two long rides, I had a cruise control problem that seemed to get worse (more frequent and consistent) as I rode. It got so that after about 5-10 minutes on cruise, it would pop out again. It would do this at different cruise speeds and while it initially seemed worse under load (on hills), it got so that it acted similar when not under load. It acted like I had cancelled the cruise setting. The on indicator light went off and the resume light came on when this happened as if I had hit the cancel switch. I could resume cruise but the problem would reoccur again after some more miles. I read with interest dingy's post yesterday on cleaning the switch which I understand could help. However, could this be just a vacuum leak that gets worse depending on load etc. and if so, is there a most likely location for that leak?
  24. the cb in my 08 rsv has a mind of its own it will come on by its self and i can not shut it off. i push and hold the control button for 15 or 20 sec. sometimes this works also the radio will lock up. only thing that works is vol control any ideas? thanks steve
  25. The his in my helmet is really starting to bother me. I've noticed it since day one on the bike, if I have my helmet plugged in I get hiss. I like to be plugged in so I can switch to helmet speakers at freeway speeds to hear the stereo. At lower speeds I leave it on speakers. I have the intercom volume at 0, and it doesn't matter if I have the radio going to speakers or helmet there is a hiss. My wife says she hears it too, but she has a physical volume control back there and will just turn it to 0 and it goes away. (If I want to talk to her I tap her on the leg and she turns her volume back up.) But the only way I can get rid of mine is to unplug. Has anyone figured out how to solve this? One thought I have is to find an actual volume control that will plug in between the helmet and the bike, but as of yet I have not found one.
