  1. I just saw this about clearing the snow from the Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier Natl Park. The pic was taken 2 days ago, it looks like they have a long way to go to get the road passable, my ride through there less than a month might not happen..... Flikr seems to be having some issues allowing the preview pic to load, but just click the heading in the blue above the black video frame to have a look. There are several pics in there that make you realize just how much snow falls thathigh in the mountain passes, wow! 2. Robin and I are headed to Morro Bay on Thursday and I wanted to use a one step detailer on the bike before the trip. I've been using Original Bike Spirits because its cheap and does a ok job. I'm out, so I go to the local shop and they don't carry it. I find this MrMoto for $7.95 a can and ask the guy behind the counter if its any good. He asks several guys there, but they have never heard of it or tried it. They all recommended the S-100, which is $14.00 a can. I figure that at $7.95 a can I'll give it a try. This stuff is great! The spray is much more refined and is easy to control. A little bit goes a long way and polishes to a great shine. The can says it works best on black bikes, which is good for me as all of my bikes are black. If you are limited on funds like me, I really recommend this product.
  3. Hello: Does anyone work around thick plastics? I am looking for a piece of 3/4" solid black plastic material 15"X15" for a motorcycle related project. Thanks
  4. Here's the cockpit of the trike....where the heck will the GPS go?? The air adjust for the trike is the square black "thing" on the left--and it's hogging all the room http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae282/AussieAnnie888/2011%20HD%20trike/IMGP0923.jpg
  5. Here are a couple of pics as of last night. The trailer started out white (see my avatar) wanted to match the bike. Galaxie Blue/ Raven Black. The border pinstripe is a brighter charcoal than on the bike. I like it better, it does a better job of defining the blue and black. Working on my brother in-laws trailer too. His is going to be black to match his Midnight Venture. Now if it would just quit raining so I can finish the nose piece that houses the cooler.
  6. Hello Everyone: Anyone passing through the black hills on the way to Cody? If so we have stayed at the Cheif Motel in Custer SD, many times. Indoor pool, Hot tub and covered deck to park several bike under. Bruce and Nancy are wonderful people. Otherwise another friend manages the Holiday Inn Express in Custer and has a bit of land to park a cage and trailer if you would need to drop one off and ride the rest of the way. Keep in touch. Look forward to meeting everyone!
  7. I would like to polish up my engine side covers. How would I do that? What type of paint should I use for the Black? I took a picture from ebay so you know what I'm talking about.
  8. Sorry Ol' buddy, but we're sending more :snow2::snow2: your way! It's snowing here now and we're supposed to get 5+ inches by midnight with a foot or more in the higher Black Hills. Lots of wind too... The critters have all hidden in the barn and the dog won't even go outside:cold::cold: I'm so ready for SUMMER!
  9. I don't know where to post this so this will do. I hope I don't upset anyone. I need an extra set of the rubber/plastic pieces that go on the rear passenger trunk mount. Two of the pieces are the black rubber/plastic passenger arm rest. The left and right piece. The other is the center black rubber/plastic piece in the center of the trunk support. I hope I explained this well enough. I would like to paint them another color for a project I am doing on my bike. Thanks, Harry
  10. Replaced the 70's style white wagon wheels with the red and blue pinstripe for some nice aluminum wheels. Now I just need to paint it galaxie blue and raven black to match the bike. Hopefully J-Bird will be at MD so he can pistripe it to match the bike. Let see some your trailers!
  11. I installed the LED amber front marker lights on two RSV thus far using this method and it works great.. The lights you get from JP Cycles have a black and yellow wire.. the power wire is yellow and looks terrible when running up the brake cable.. So what I do is snip the black wire (ground) and solder it to the snipped yellow wire, heat shrink covers the joint and the short yellow wire end. The ground wire gets an eye end connector which I then connect to the attachment bolt for ground. The new power wire, now black, gets routed up the brake hose and wired into the system.. works like a charm. There might be easier better ways of doing it, but this works for me.. However, on the last bike I did this to, one marker light wouldn't lite up so before automatically assuming I had a bad or cold solder joint, I tried touching the ground to different bare metal parts on the bike and sure enough.. that was the problem.. Strange indeed.. on that particular bike, the lower fork wasn't grounded at all.. I literally had to run a ground wire up higher onto the upper tree area to ground the light.. Any bare metal exposed on the lower end wouldn't give me ground.. Just happened that all the attaching parts were shielded with a good layer of paint at assembly time..
  12. Well sort of, Royal Stars anyway. Hadn't seen any till day 3 (cus DynoDon brought his wing to the Central IL M&E Tuesday) Anyhow, saw a black TD going North on the 59 bypass near Poteau, OK (I think that's where I was). And, there's a red and black TD for sale just North of Longview, TX along US259. Later, Scooter Bob
  13. Here is some progress on my fairing. A friend helped me make the brackets out of plywood as templates to scan into the water-jet machine. As for paint I'm thinkin I'm gonna go with black for now, just to get rid of that white. http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn195/xxMPWATERDAWGxx/0913101329.jpg http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn195/xxMPWATERDAWGxx/0912101249.jpg
  14. I recently purchased an F4 Customs windshield...and am EXTREMELY happy with it, except for one little (very minor) thing. I have searched the internet till I am tired...and I KNOW how to search...but still can't find the info I am looking for. OK...so here's the info I am needing. I looked at my STOCK WINDSHIELD to see how the tint strip was laid down and this is what I found out... The first layer is a FLAT BLACK layer of TAPE that is 1.25 inches wide. And on top of that and overlapping the black is another 1.25 inch of clear tape with black dots of graduated sizes (which screens the light)...just like you see on cars. I have tried to find this "tape" or "tapes" on the net and can't find it anywhere, in fact, I don't even know the terminology to use...so if you look at your stock shield, you'll see what I am talking about. Can anyone provide any info? Thanks. Wally
  15. well thanks to mini and jeff i now have a new ride in the garage, a new raven 2010 venture picked up in elizabeth city nc so i guess i'll be posting my 2006 black cherry one in a few min if anyone needs a good bike thanks to all that responded to my request for help finding this one:Venture:
  16. Hey folks- an odd thing I think I noticed; perhaps somebody can clear it up for me. I'm fairly new to the Venture (just upsized out of a 750 Vulcan last summer) but not to motorbiking. Can somebody tell me; were there optional colors for the wheel rims somewhere along the MKI-MKII line? In the owner manual and in several of the photos I've seen on the site here, it looks like the circumferential rim (except the outer lip and machined spoke faces) is black. A few owners seem to have had theirs powder coated or otherwise painted to match custom paintjobs on their fairings, etc. And then there's mine- the whole wheel (again, excluding the actual machined surfaces) is more of a matte silver finish that looks like what you'd have from beadblasting aluminum. When I took delivery of my 93 in July last year it was quite dirty so I spent a fair amount of time with a 3M wheel on the die grinder trying to clean it up good, but it didn't look like the wheels had ever been black before. Any idears? Just curious- I didn't do any real research on it because I know the fine folks here will answer in short order anyway.
  17. :no-no-no: After getting the RSV midnight back together, well almost back together. Still have to change the rear tire, pull and lube the drive shaft. Any how I decided to do a little cleaning. I had just picked up Turtle wax's Black Box. This is a wax that is made just for black paint and is advertised to do away with cob web aka very fine scratches in the clear coat. Well to make a long story short. IT DOES NOT DO THE JOB! It was a process you had to follow, several step and when all done I had more cob web then what I had when I started. So I guess I'll be getting the buffer back out and the Hi Tech Yellow wax.
  18. No, not a bike.....another cat. Some of you know that almost all of my dogs over the years have mostly come from rescues. For some reason though, neighbors cats and dogs always find their way to my house. Dragon, one black cat who moved here about 8 years ago with his family, somehow migrated over here and now hes basically our cat. His owners couldnt care less. This was some time ago. Fast forward to now....another neighbor, who also had a black cat, always let Chiclet loose all of the time, winters included. She was a very nasty cat and you couldnt touch her. Shes about 13 years old now. Well, a few weeks ago she started hanging out over in my garage much more then normal. I finally took a good look and realized that shes now blind. I called the neighbor who took her home. Next day I saw her walking in circles in someone elses yard in the pouring rain. I went over to her and she let me pick her up. Long story short: I guess shes mine now. So called owner couldnt give a rats a$$ about her. He had no problem letting her run loose, maybe even hoping she would just die. Got her all cozy in the garage and when it gets cold shes in the spare room. Now im juggling 2 danes and 2 black cats. Shes a sweetheart now. I guess she just needed some TLC, which she never got before. Moral of this story: If you want a pet, make sure you fulfill your obligation to take care of these pets, not foist them on others when they are less then perfect. (a little venting)........
  19. I am using Google Chrome and i cannot change the fonts or color when i post at VR.O this is typed in dark red and arial black , anybody smarter than me know what i am doing wrong ?
  20. Beth has decided that this year it's the Black Hills, Deadwood, Sturgis, Spearfish and all for our vacation ride. When is the best time to ride these parts? We don't want to be part of the rally in Sturgis, but would like to have been there type thing before the mad rush. So, weather wise......realizing that ol' Mother Nature doesn't always co-operate.....when do you think is the best time to head that way? gunk:think:
  21. I am going Thursday to look at a new for me trailer so that I can get to Dons MD this spring. All I know so far is that it is a Menard's trailer, similar to the HF trailer, with a car topper from Farm & Fleet. The trailer frame and bottom half of the topper are painted black and the top half is painted Yamaha black cherry, I would most likely want to repaint it, to either a light color to reduce heat buildup in the sun, or to match my bike or sell the topper part and build the box that I really want. It was used once to Sturgis and back to Milwaukee. He is asking $400 which is way to much to me when I can get a new one for less from HF. Anyone know what specifically I should look at on it other than the obvious mechanical stuff?
  22. I have a 1985 VR with the large top box. I bought a black backrest on ebay, but, it is for the smaller top box. Anyone need a very nice black backrest?
  23. I just got a battery tender Jr. for my 2000 RSV. The directions say to hook up the positive to the battery and negative to the frame or vice versa. It doesn't offer what I thought was the obvious way to hook the thing up which was the red to red and black to black. How do you hook them up?
  24. A retiring farmer in preparation for selling his land, needed to rid his farm of animals. So he went to every house in his town. To the houses where the man is the boss, he gave a horse. To the houses where the woman is the boss, a chicken was given. He got toward the end of the street and saw a couple outside gardening. "Who's the boss around here?" he asked. "I am." said the man. "I have a black horse and a brown horse," the farmer said, "which one would you like?" The man thought for a minute and said, "The black one." "No, no, no, get the brown one." the man's wife said. "Here's your chicken." said the farmer.
  25. In a brilliant move while uncovering the Venture I snagged the cover and broke the antenna, the one with the black plastic piece in the middle. I broke it off at the top of the black piece. I thought this was the CB antenna. I took it off and went ridding and found that my FM radio reception was very poor. So was this the Radio antenna? I have looked back over a couple of post but still am confussed, I would like to replace both antennas with one is there a post that explains how to do this and is this a complicated process? What is the best antenna to use? Thanks for any help!
