  1. Kinda thinking about the clear lower wind deflectors on the front forks and the clear wind deflectors on the bottom of the front fairing... Since I have a Midnight venture to keep with the midnight theme...I thought they would look better BLACK. I have found Duplicolor paint that is suppose to be exact match to the black on my 07 RSMV. I was thinking about removing the clear plastic lower wind deflectors and the clear plastic deflectors on the bottom of the fairing and painting the inside or back side of them black. This would keep the shine of the clear plastic and prevent rocks and other road hazzards from beating the paint off them. I know I need to becareful with the paint reacting to the plastic and possibly melting them and maybe a special paint may be in order for this. What does the group think about this... What would they look like Black?
  2. Well, in a thread called "Putting Venture carbs on a 96RSTD" the discussion led to talk about what colors were offered for the various years of the Star. I did some searching and found out that there is a big difference between years both in how many colors and what colors were offered. So I was thinking if it would not be cool if we had pictures of every color offered for the stars in a folder on this site sorted out by manuf.year and type. So what do you guys think about this? I have already begun working on this and first of all I am gathering info on colors offered for each year. Alongside we can search for pictures and would be most fun to get them from members only - if possible. So what do you guys think? Should we give this a go? Freebird ! Can we somehow host this on the site? So if you play along and want to add some color just copy my list here below and fill in accordingly and repost. That way the list should little by little be filled in. And make comments on corrections if there are any wrong info. I am not far gone on this but I started with the 1996 to 1997 model and here is what I think was offered. Note that we are talking about the 1996 to 2001 Royal Star. Not the Venture and Royale Venture. The color info on them is listed on this site (This post was edited after Sleeperhawks post here below: 1996 model : New White / Mature Red Bluish White / Blue Metallic Yamaha Black Milky Brown / Yamaha Black Bluish White / Dark Blue Cocktail 1997 model: New White / Mature Red Elegant Brown / Black Shirobai White / Enticer Maroon Milky Brown / Urushi Black 1998 model: Cammellia Green / Ceramic White 1999 model: 2000 model: 2001 model: Black (no other color). So you guys and gals who know anything about the other models chip in and update the list. Little by little the list will grow and finally be completed. Any suggestions on doing this differently of cause welcome. So lets work together !!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Subject: FW: Black Boxes in Automobiles Latest from Ed Forest....... > Black Boxes in Automobiles: > > The National Transportation Safety Board recently divulged they had "covertly" funded a project with the U.S. automakers for the past 5 years, whereby the automakers were installing black-box voice recorders in 4-wheel drive pickup trucks and SUV's in an effort to determine in fatal accidents, the circumstances in the last 15 seconds before the crash. > > They were surprised to find in 37 of the 50 states the recorded last words of drivers in 61.2 percent of fatal crashes were, "Oh SH*T !" Only the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, Texas and West Virginia were different, where 89.3 percent of the final words were: > > "Hold my beer, I'm gonna try somethin."

  5. A buddy and I left Tehachapi for Kernville on a mild 50 degree day yesterday. We were on the lower creek road thru Caliente to avoid the ice on the higher mountain road called the Lions Tail. We came to a corner in the shadow of trees, when I saw the ice completely across the road. I was able to slow the bike, but as soon as I hit the ice, I went down. My buddy said I went down very gracefully...the bike and I slid about a hundred feet, on the ice. Not a scratch on me! No worn spots on my leathers and the only parts damaged on the bike was the front and rear crash bars. Both are ground down about 1/2 to 3/4 thru. They did the job they were supposed to do. Oh yea, the front lower shroud separated at the bottom when the crash bar bent rearward. It really was a E ticket ride sliding on the ice like that. A car full of kids stopped to watch us trying to pick the bike up on the ice, but did not try to help...I suppose just as well. It had to be quite a site! We ran into several other spots of black ice in the canyons, which really surprised me when it was so warm, but the locals were telling us that the winds which blow in the mornings helps to keep the ice in the shadows till early afternoon. Coming back late in the afternoon, we ran into freezing fog and wet roads, but thankfully no black ice. I gotta tell you though, we kept our speed low going into that canyon again.

    Debadged anyone?

I have the 07 RSTD in black and have been thinking about taking the tank emblem off. Has anyone done this? If so can you post up a pic? I would like to see what it looks like before I take em off. I am thinking it might add to that simple black and chrome "classic" look.. Thanks, Shep

  11. Okay guys, I know chrome and wide whites look great on Midnights, Black cherry, blue/black and Charcoal, but mine is the 04 White with the "bluish white cocktail". I hate the blue tint. I am gonna go for the street rod look. Already removed the emblems, the "eyebrows", the tank bib, and the stock chrome horn. Tape deck has been removed. RK mufflers. Moved the headset connector from the tank up to the handlebars under the radio. A painter owes me, I just need to remove body parts and strip the clear and stripes. My ideas at the moment are bright white, or Chevy Victory Red with Black accents to match my truck, or maybe Matte Black with Bright Red wheels and Rotors! Regardless, the dash will be Matte Black. Does anyone else have trouble with the white reflecting onto the windshield? I have the front rotor covers on my list. Will these be as hard to break the bolts loose as when I had to replace the rear rotor? Those I had to heat with a torch to break the loctite. I am looking for ideas to remove any other unnecessary chrome. Will fenders from a RSTD interchange? I would trade my fenders with mascot and standard chrome tips for fenders without holes! Will the RSTD tank interchange. Don't they have a "bulge" instead of the tank bib? I like that and would trade mine with factory rubber bib! Maybe one of you RSTD guys want the flat top tank for a mural!!!! Alright then, unload your cool ideas on me!
  12. Ok, don't get excited..., but I went to look at a 99RSV yesterday. It was a salve that the owner was trying to rebuild, and had bought some of the parts needed off Ebay. It had seen better days with lots of damage to the plastic, dented tank, etc. The motor is reputed to have a V-Max cam installed, but no documentation. I basically turned it down because I don't need another 'project' in my life, but then got to thinking that maybe it might have some redeeming value. Repaint it black?? I took a bunch of pics HERE , and if you look at the pics of the rear end it looks like the saddles and tire are out of alignment. Or maybe it's an optical illusion?? Whatcha think??
  13. Hi, I need some help from you riders who have painted their fairings. I want to paint the lower left fairing part in the shape of an "L" with the lower front vents that goes around to meet the front connector that connects to the same part on the right side of the bike. I had a left side master cylinder leak and some of the brake fluid leaked on this part. Now that I have you totally confused, I guess I should ask my question. Question: What are the best painting steps to get as close the same color and finish as a new factory part? This part has only one color which is Urishi Black. I am planning on ordering one can of Urishi Black and one can of Clearcoat spray paint from ColorRite. I know I should probably use a primer as well. Does this fairing part need to be sanded to remove the clearcoat before applying the primer? Also, what would be a good filler to "fill-in" any nicks. However, if one of you happen to have this part with the Urishi black paint in really good shape and want to sell it, let me know your purchase price. In advance, thank you for all your responses and suggestions. Allen Dallas, Texas
  14. Friend just bought 08 Venture. Has around 1500 miles on it now and every time he rides his clutch hand turns black. It only takes about 10 miles of back road riding for this to happen. Getting worse the more miles he puts on. Dealer said he would check with rep about replacement. Friend thought this was not right for just a clutch lever. We think maybe the lever was not sealed (?) or coated correctly from factory. Any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks Gil
  15. I gently popped out the lower vents on my '85 to see why the vents won't stay open. Well, no wonder, there's nothing there to keep'em open! So, I took plain ol' rubber bands (black is better) and hooked them around the snap-tabs and across the vents. Works better than new! Don't overdo it with the bands though. You wouldn't want to stress the plastic parts. Check out the pictures.
  16. If you like the Blue Ridge parkway in the fall come to the Black Dog Wine and Beach festival Oct.11.I have been and it alot of fun. http://www.chateaumorrisette.com/index.php?pr=festivals
  17. While out riding my Black Cherry RSV I came across another Black Cherry RSV today. Saw it a few times in the "neighborhood" of winding roads. Specifically, at the intersection of PA-10 & US-322 at 3:30 p.m., riding two-up, rider w/a yellow shirt. ..anybody from here??
  18. I need the plastic part that sourrounds headlight glass. The two lower screw holes have broken and if anyone has one I would be interested in purchasing it. Mine is a 83 Model Venture, black in color. I bought one on Ebay a while back but it is for a later model venture if anyone needs one of those. Ronnie
  19. I pulled my Bub Sleeper slip-ons off earlier today to wrap packing around the baffles and noticed a considerable amount of black soot on the right side baffle and none on the left side. I'm assuming that the right side (which ever cylinders, carbs, etc. exhaust though it) is running too rich. Would a carb sync take care of this? Thanks
  20. I have two unused 2008 Venture International Rally T-Shirts I would like to part with (finally showed up a few days ago). I do not like them and they were not what I ordered. 1 black short sleeve XL 1 black short sleeve XXL I was thinking $20 shipped for both in the US. Let me know.
  21. I would get killed if I buy another one but found add last night in local trading rag that says 1300 Venture Royal new brakes, starter, carbs rebuilt, all the goodies 3200 miles Black Cherry 3000 bucks. Don't say what year and I hung up phone before they answered when I happened to think it was 2 in the morning.
  22. Has anyone had a problem with spiders nesting under the saddle bags fenders and farings etc. On their royal star ventures? On 8/22/08 while cleaning my bike I found a large black widdow under the right saddle bag. I went to the store on 8/23/08 and purchased a can of spider spray and sprayed every where I saw a webb. 4 more large black widiws and their very tiny offspring came out of thier hiding places to die. Does any one have a solutin to this problem? I had went to my local dealer and asked if they thought that spider spray would harm the finish ? However, I am deathly afraid of spiders and sprayed the areas anyway. The spray did not seem to hurt the paint.
  23. my 90 VR in the Venturerider classifieds. We just bought Denden's 06 Black Cherry and I need to make room in the garage. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1385
  24. I just bought a Royal Star Venture. It is "white." I received policy information from my insurance company and they classified this MC as a "midnight." I found a link on the web and the VIN came back as a "midnight," too! I thought all "midnights" were black....! What is a JYAVP04E74A006946.... really?
  25. Just added another Black Cherry ride to the garage. Worked awhile to get myself where I could afford something like this (for the unbelievers, the drug money is good!)
