  1. Mine is bad. Aggervating the mess out of me!lol Any body got a good one or know if they are still availible for a '86RSV?
  2. I've done sea foam twice and sync'd the carbs, installed new plugs. I rode about 105 miles or so today so next I'm going to pull the plugs to see how they look. OK...so I have the side cases off to do the carb sync and change plugs. I've just received the Plastex kit so I rode with the plastic off while I work on them. Tonight I went for a ride and kept getting a "pricking" feeling to my inner thigh. I thought it might have been a sharp end of a cable tie or a wire twist tie sticking me but after a few checks to see what it could be I realized it was the spark plug wire giving me minor zaps! (both left and right) So...perhaps a stupid question...but does that mean I most certainly need new plug wires? But I'm getting 34 mpg (US) or 6.1 L/100 km or 40.8 miles per Can. gal. and that was at least 3/4 of the time doubled up! SO....I now am thinking my bike is not doing so bad....and that it just isn't the powerhouse that SOME PEOPLE (who shall remain nameless eh Yammer Dan???) is just putting us on about these 1st gens being such an amazing powerhouse!
  3. hello the good news my son @ daughter in law are going to have my 5th grand child the bad news is he has a 07 midnight venture and he may have to sell it if he cant keep up the payments. but can't wait to meet the new grand child bumble bee kevin wisor jax fl 1999 rsv:mustache:
  4. I believe my radio controller is bad. I got caught in (2) bad rain storms Monday and my controller turned itself on and I can not turn it off. It was completely off and all of a sudden it came on, stuck on 87.7 FM. I can not change the channel or change it to CB, AUX, etc. Has this happened to anyone and if so what's going on? It can't be a fuse because it comes on when I start the bike. There is no sound coming out of the speakers. I don't believe the rain is the culprit but it's strange it started during the downpour. Any ideas???
  5. well after long and thoughfull times. we had to put my Aunt in a home. age 69 and starting to forget us. and wasent takeing care of her self. but what i want to ask is any one out here interested in cassette tapes? i know most of us have these wonderfull players on our first generations. mine still works. so i will keep some of these for my self. there are close to 145 of them. some still new never played still wraped in plastic. ok now the bad there all country music from old to modern any one interested in some pm me im thinking of keeping most of the newer ones like alan jackson and so on but there are patsy kline, lorretta. stuff like that. pm me if any one would like a few. or if your looking for a certain one. i just might have it sincerly oldgoat
  6. Ok guys hope to get a little, help my brother in law has the vulcan 500 and asked me to do a few maintenance projects on it, well last ride he took she started rattling pretty bad and i am thinking the automatic cam chain tensioner took a poop on it was wondering how rough this is to change out? Read the book and it doesnt seem that bad but wanted opions from guys that may have replace one of these, please let me know any info or advise you guys can thanks so much....
  7. I was on you tube and found this video its a vulcan 900 I believe. Tell me I'm not hearing things it has a whine also. I'm not feeling so bad about mine now. I still ordered the 424 mufflers though. here's the video [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R498Yy7nyvA]YouTube- Go Pro HD Full HD1080p: 1920x1080[/ame]
  8. I have no ideal how or why this happened but a friend and I were just talking about our bikes and stuff and anyway to make a long story short I ended up trading my 83 venture for a 1987 venture royal. It does need a little work on the fairing parts but I figure ill do that this winter as a garage project. It actually runs good, all the gauges work and the compressor works etc. The only real bad thing is the rear tire wont hold air. it is a brand new tire, still has the tits on it, but it sat for a year and I have a feeling something is between the outer rim and tire. I just cant wait. Should have pics by this weekend. Can you all tell me of any bad "traits" of the 87 and also how does the 1200 compare to the 1300 on the open road? thanks for any info
  9. ok who told Dianne about if she needs help with a new to her bike? she saw a nice 650 woman owned bike here in the classified. and said hey that wold be a nice one. looks like september for her though. still if she gets settlement then she can get some ride time in. i can just see it now. vroommm around the block just to rub it in that i cant ride for now. we also talked about letting my 84 go next spring. get somethin newer and hate to say it dependable. this one just was not taken care of. thank god she found a complete exhaust system one bad right muffler rust trough but thats ok jbweld and it wont show. and mines good so? because she said james relax i want to show you something that shop showed me. i went oh no not any more bad news. she said not realy as we got the parts comming in be here tomorrow. but the old exhaust was welded in places that it should not have been. headers welded to collector front ones ? a shame to as they where not rusted and shiney i think the welded tab can be removed from them. they welded a piece of small steel from header to collector. i will post pics when and if i can. so i guess what im trying to say is they f***ed it up. mufflers are good but rest of it was shot to hell. that explains the backfire while at idle? and the one day it scared a poor woman in the crosswalk. but enough i need to take meds go for a walk then back to my easy chair.
  10. Well, I thought I had this #3 & 4 rich idle issue figured out. I found a bad float needle @ #3. Replaced #3 & 4 needles. Set all floats again...to be sure. This did not fix the issues w/#3 or #4 posted elsewhere. ALSO to be sure my "choke" plungers were absolutely sealing, I used double springs. They were checked under mag glass. ANd I made sure the choke body was good at the seat. No change. Could it be the coasting enricher? And how does is work? And if it's bad ...what are the possible signs? Could this be my cause? Carbs are not foreign to me. But this is a pain....Any further idea or answer are appreciated.
  11. Was wondering if anyone has run into this before. I just resurrected a pristine 1984 venture 20k original miles, the bike was a mess when I got it but she's alive and kickin. I rebuilt carbs, heavily varnished. Synched ran but poorly alot of popping and poor power so I pulled the TCU and it was shot full of corrosion and water, I also noticed a homemade jumper wire going from the 3 to 4 coil, I cut but left in place, then went and bought a used TCU and it ran alot better but still not right. I then reconnected wire and it runs like a champ.. Any thoughts, I'm afraid its overdriving the drivers in the TCU, is the TCU bad, is the coils bad, is the pickups bad?. Anyone done this and why. Thanks Mike
  12. OK....I'm going to tell the story and THEN we can discuss punishment. There is a certain Canadian member here whom you just can't be nice to. The member in question has long wondered about the performance of the Second Gen Venture as he plans to replace his bike at some time in the future. So, out of the kindness of my heart, I asked this member if he would like to take my '99 on a test ride. He was pleased to do so. I got busy and have no idea how long he was gone but some time later I got this telephone call. It went something like this. Him: Hey Don, uh...do you keep proof of insurance and registration somewhere on your bike? Me: Yes, it should be in the trunk. Him: Well, what do the cops around here usually ask for? Me: That is usually all they need. What is going on? Him: Well, I was going through that first town that you told me about, the first one you come to when you turn South on 58. Me: Yes? Him: A green pickup pulled out in front of me just as I was going into town. Me: OK. Well, are you all right? Him: Yes, I'm fine...but the bike...... Me: Well, you are OK, that's the important thing. Exactly where are you? Him: Just as you come into town, across from that DrugSav. Me: OK, well I'm on my way, should be there in about 10 minutes. Him: OK. So, I grab my keys and head out of the garage to get in my car and HERE HE COMES RIDING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. LAUGHING LIKE HECK. Now...THAT was a BAD joke. Cruel and unusual punishment. Bad Canadian...BAD BAD CANADIAN. So...should I ban him or keep him around long enough to get EVEN. I'm not saying who is was but his initials are SWIFTY.
  13. I hope all our members made it through the stoms o.k. The news makes it sound bad. Please let us know. Dave
  14. As I stated in an earlier article I just bought my first Gen 2. I have been riding a gen 1 so I didn't really pay much attention to how I cleaned it. The previous owner did a great job. Doesn't even have a water spot. I would like to know how I clean the painted parts, metal and windsheild properly. Additionally, when I travel on long trips and get bugs all over the windshield how do I get them off so I don't scratch my windsheild. My old windsheild was so bad I couldn't figure it out. The only small amount of surface rust on this vehicle is on the bolts. I have thought I had seen that they sell dryers for after you wash your bike. Didn't know if this reduced or would eliminate this problem. Thanks for the help. I think the paint is clear coated. I am thinking this means that wax is not necessary.
  15. These past 10 weeks (today) have got to be the most trying time in my life. Since the wreck I have had such a run of emotions that sometimes I just can't control anymore. The little girl has no idea the affect her hitting me has put me and my family through. Seeing a bike on the highway just kills me. I want to be back on one so bad, but then I think "what if I am not this lucky again?". My wife finally told me she doesn't want me on two wheels again and that just rips my heart out. I can't blame her though; she actually saw me splattered on the road; not knowing if her 28 year old husband would live. We have no children, but are at the time in our lives where the thought of them comes up daily and we want them so bad. What if I had had a little one and was killed? I know these are tough questions and there is no right or wrong answer. The bad thing is; I want another RSV so bad. I want to feel the wind on my face and the thrill of the ride. There are too many of you on here that I haven't met yet and want to ride with; even if just to Dairy Queen for an ice cream! My father in law who has ridden for 35 plus years refuses to even talk bikes. He put his HD Ultra up for sale the day after the wreck and swore on his life he will never ride again. The thought of me almost dieing and my brother in law going down has really affected him in the worst ways. I can't say I blame him either. My dad who also went down in the accident swears he will ride again. It's in his blood and won't come out. He looked death in the face with leukemia, a motorcycle accident doesn't faise him. My mom who went down with him doesn't know what to think. Two hard headed men in her life (dad and me) that both have a strong urge for 2 wheels. She watched the car hit me from 50 feet back. She's still a mess; but I thank God every second it was me who took the hit. So what do I do? Follow my heart or my wife and mom's wishes; just walk away, count my blessings, and find a new hobby. I miss it so much and can't stand the thought of some spoiled 17 year old taking something I love so much but I also don't want my family to constantly think "what if?". I am in such a tough spot. My arms still aren't healed and the pain is constant. I went 6 days without pain medicine and about went out of my mind. I am almost to the point where I will either choose to go back to work in lots of pain or long term disability. I'm 28, I thought I was invinceable; I have been showed differently. I don't know what hurts more my broken arms or my broken heart. Okay I'll stop for now....I am sorry to go on and on but thanks for listening. Ventureriders has given me so much, I just wish I could partly repay it. God Bless All Of You!!! Ben
  16. At some point in the future, if your helmet stinks, it's damaged and should be replaced. It will be interesting to see if this makes it to market. I can see the application. Odd how widely diversified opinions are about helmets. One drop from the seat and it needs to be replaced... I've dropped mine from the second story and it don't look too bad. Which one are you? Here's the story.
  17. Does anyone know the symptoms when these go bad?
  18. I'm going to be in the area around the middle of May. I like the size and the look of this sidecar. Problem would be is there any way it could/would work on a RSV? I know so little and want one so bad. hh http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/mcy/1700009499.html
  19. Water is too deep to ride through so I need some bad!
  20. Taters went to see her surgeon on friday to have x rays taken of her broken wrist...good news..... it has healed perfectly....bad news....two of the screws holding the plates in her wrist has loosend and she will need another surgery next thursday to secure them...she has been complaining of numbness in her hand and thumb...seems that the screws are putting pressure on the nerves ....Here we go again.....one step foward, two steps back......time to make lemon ade.....
  21. So, got the new (to me) bike here yesterday. Put in new plugs and wires, completely drained the tank, and filled with fresh gas. Started and idled kinda ok. Sprayed carb cleaner on carbs, shafts, linkages, etc. Drained the float bowls, and restarted. Ran a little better. Pulled one of the diaphragms out, looked pretty new actually. Still will not develop power. What I have noticed is with the choke wide open it will idle up around 3,000, and will have some throttle response, but when you push the choke in, it drops to 1,000 and pretty much little throttle response. Some popping and spitting up through the carbs, but, not bad. And the chokes on the passenger side are pretty sticky. I am wondering if this is an indication of bad carbs, and how hard are the carbs to rebuild. I have a fair amount of mechanical expertise with motors, but, to me, rebuilding carbs has always been voodoo, or a black science. I would appreciate any real world experience from others.
  22. One of the things I didn't get with the '99 was an air pump. I found one on Ebay. Anyone else use this one?? Good..bad...ugly??
  23. I was in the curves around Romance, AR when the bike went squirrelly, not so bad as to lose control, but bad enough to where the back end was "swaying". I was doing about 55mph when this happened and slowed down to about 40mph...it seemed to be OK and then about 2 minutes later...it did it again only worse... I nursed it for another mile or two and then finally stopped in a church parking lot and looked at it and sure enough...it only had about 10 lbs in it. I went ahead and rode it to a gas station (not that much further down the road) and aired the tire up...it stayed up for about 20 minutes and then lost the air again. But I already had my brother coming after me with the trailer and we took the bike at 6:15pm up to the Yamaha store for a new tire. I could not find a puncture in the tire or any nails or any other objects in the tire, but the CENTER of the tire seemed to have cuts in various parts of the tire...but always DEAD CENTER. I am wondering if the tire was defective...I only have 1800 miles on the BIKE!! Has anyone else ever seen a tire do this? Anyway...now I know for sure what it feels like to have a tire go down... Wally
  24. This looks bad, really bad. Just reported on the news: http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/traffic/dump-truck-motorcycle-crash-3-25-2010 Multiple bikes down, several riders dead, hit by a dump-truck.
  25. I just notice when I turn on the signal lights, all lights slightly pulsate.. Now I know that this is cause by a bad ground Do I look for on the scoot or on the trailer, I Have a 6 prong connector
