  1. I'm seam to having trouble finding out how well the Nolan N-COMM communications work on the Ventures. The wife and myself, both have Nolan N-42E 3/4 helmets, and were looking into wired communications. The Nolan helmets have a special adapter I heard can run not only the Nolan communications through them, but you can buy J&P headsets also using an adapter. Can anyone share their experiences with either of these units? We would like to get some communications for our helmets, and didn't want a clamp on style headset like the ones we have now from our Gold-wings Thanks for your help
  2. Could someone please tell me where I could find the adapter that allows you to still split the fairing on a RSV without removing the Passing lights? I know I saw this on a thread here, but I can no longer find it. Any help would be great.. JM
  3. I decided to jump on the bandwagon and add a temperature gauge to my bike. I already had a volt meter and didn't care that much for an oil pressure gauge so I just mounted a water temp gauge. Instead of mounting it in the cassette space I decided to mount it to the handlebars with a ram mount. I ordered the parts from egauges.com and went with an Autometer Marine gauge because it was more water resistant. Marine Water Temp http://www.egauges.com/vdo_ind.asp?T...=ATM-200762-35 I also bought the adapter for the sending unt but that didn't work due to a ridge around the hole in the head. The adapter is fairly thin and when screwed into the head the hex is recessed into the ridge which prevented me from being able to get a socket on the hex of the adapter to tighten it into the head. So I used Goose's idea of using a non-fouler and brass 1/2" fitting. Adapter http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=R7965 For a housing I used a chrome VDO mounting cup which I modified. I didn't care for the way the housing mounted so I drilled a 5/16 hole into side along with a 3-48 set screw hole. I then mounted the cup to a ram mount plate which had a 1/4-20 threaded hole in the center (http://www.ram-mount.com/ramwebcompthumb/ramb202a.jpg). The gauge fit loosely into the mount so I wrapped a few layer of plastic tape around the gauge until it was a nice press fit into the mounting cup. I am hoping that also acts as a gasket to keep water out. If not it should drain out the back at the wire hole. While it seemed secure at this point I decided to add a 3-48 set screw to make sure it stayed in place. Housing http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=240-017 It was a fairly easy install even though I ended up with a coolant leak at the sender which I will address tomorrow. I would like to thank V7Goose and Jlh3rd for their posts and advice on their gauge installations. I probably wouldn't have tackled this without them. Here are a few photos. Dennis
  4. I have not seen this until today.. Kinda Neat. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=99887 Here is the pdf user manual. http://www.harborfreight.com/manuals/99000-99999/99887.pdf Look as if you can also add the adapter as well. 1100 pound maximum lift capacity Only $11.99 to ship... Ummm Jeff
  5. I bought a lift adapter from Carbon_One in September. I did not try to use it until December. When I attempted to put the pin through, it would not go. The pin would only cover half the hole. Has anyone else had this problem??? Yes, I had it facing in the right direction.... Now I have a lift adapter that I cannot use...
  6. I have your adapter to use Zumo on my venture, and it works great!!! Can you make something similar for the J&M CB unit on Mamma's bike? The J&M already has an auxiliary input jack, but no way to talk back to the device, same as the factory unit on Venture. To use anything other than a music player, you have to buy a $270 "integrator" plus another $150 "adapter" for each device you want to integrate. My understanding is the integrator's purpose is just to prioritze all the devices so only one is talking at a time. But the two ways I would like to use it would be only one "mixed" use device at a time, with the device providing it's own internal prioritization. Option one. We can currently plug her cell with internal MP3 right onto the stereo aux male plug provided, and listen to music and hear the phone ring. Since her phone has speech capability, she can hear it say "Call From Bubba". She can answer and hear me talk. This adapter would be something like a standard 3.5 stereo female on one end, and a male "triple" 3.5 one the other end with the mike signal tied into the extra contact. Option two - Mounting my zumo on her bike. Similar to your current adapter. The big change: Both our headsets are "dual-mode" type mikes. Tied to a factory unit on goldwing or venture, it is a 5 wire setup and the mike operates "dynamic". But when I change to her bike, I switch to a 6 wire lower cord and the mike operates "pre-amplified". So , my limited electronics assumes you would need to do something different inside your "magic" pvc tube so the mike output is at the proper power. If you can make the Zumo adapter, then I think for her cell phone I would need just an adapter to plug the 3.5 stero output and 2.5 mike input into one end, and have the common 3.5 male triple on the other end to plug into her phone. If you can make this, mine is free since my idea, huh? Maybe? Let me know what other info I can provide to help if you are willing to try!
  7. I bought the Carbon One lift adapter without legs how much trouble would it be to add legs I e-mailed Carbon One and asked about buying a set of legs but he never replyed
  8. I was wondering if anyone makes an adapter for the passengers headset that they can plug in there own music and listen to it but still have the abillity to communicate with the driver. My wifes taste in music and mine different and she doesn't want to listen to mine and vis versa.
  9. I posted a few weeks ago regarding the edsets adapter I ordered so I can use ear buds with the intercom. The adapter works fine but I used a set of ear buds my wife uses with her mp3 player. The ticking of the engine noise was so loud it was unbearable. Well today I went to wal mart and bought a pair of KOSS noise isolating earbuds for $24.88. There is absolutely no engine noise in these earbuds. I never thought that the type of earbuds would make a difference. There is one aggravating thing about the KOSS earbuds. One earbud has a wire that is 6" long and the other earbud wire is 22" long. Why is this?
  10. I just received my lift adapter from Carbon One. Works great. I had not seen any pics of it installed so thought I'd post this for those who don't have one and wanted to see what it looked like installed. Well worth the money. Thanks Carbon One for your great work.
  11. Can anyone point me to a motorcycle jack adapter for the Venture or give some idea to how to make one?
  12. I have a 2nd gen lift adapter with legs, used 3 times. I sold my 07 Venture and no longer will have need for the adapter. If someone is intrested I will take $80.00 plus shipping. My phone # is 214-675-4315. I live in Texas.
  13. I'd like to hard wire the power source for my XM, and i've searched a couple ways to do it that look straight forward. My question is, the power cord that I have now indicates 5vdc, is there some sort of resistor in the cigarette adapter that lowers the voltage to the unit, or is that just a minimum and will run off 12vdc no problem? Thanks Joe
  14. As part of the upgrades on Mocha I decided to replace the CB antenna and split the Stero onto its own system. I used a 3ft Wilson black fiberglass whip. It is tipe tuneable and thin like the Firestick II. The mount is a Wilson H.D. version. It has a large allen bolt that runs up from the bottom to the base. I used a 90 degree coax adapter to put the cable along the factory arm. The cable was about 8ft. I loope the excess under the seat and tied it to the frame. I made sure not to form coils in the excess by looping in a figure 8. This keeps from inducing a magnetic field that might affect the signal. I had to also use a 90 deg. adapter under the CB. This allowed enough clearance for installation. The AM/FM antenna is now an amplified block style mounted inside the fairing just below the LH turn signal. It is very similar to the Dakota Digital model but I got it from Ebay for $25.00. The power draw is probably less than 1/4 amp. I grabbed power from the accessory fuse. The antenna matched out at 1.5:1 SWR on channels 1 and 40. I dont think I will get much better considering the ground plane of the bike. The amplified antenna seemed to be ok before the tuner crapped out. I will edit the post after a replacement tuner is installed. JB

    jack adapter

can someone direct me to the site to purchase the adapter for the new jack i just got but cant use on my rstd
  16. I recently had my Zumo's motorcycle mount replaced due to a bad connection at the mic input jack causing problems when I tried to talk on the bluetooth phone. I had been using a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter to connect the mic. This adapter was a straight adapter which along with the 3.5mm jack caused the whole jack assembly to stick straight out from the mount. My theory is that this put quite a bit of stress on the female jack from the vibrations of the bike. So I went online and found a 90 degree cable adapter that allows me to connect the mic and keep the weight of the cable off of the jack. I figure it can't hurt. If you are interested here is a link to the adapter that I bought: http://www.eforcity.com/cothxxxxad01.html DT
  17. Some one asked about repairing a cloudy sight glass on the break reservoir. I bought an old one from Jack off his old Maxim for my Virago. The site glass was cloudy and the mirror mount was broken and here is what I did. To repair the sight glass I used super glue and just coated the lens with it with it laying horizontal when it dried it was clear; not totally flat but good enough to see clearly the level. On the mirror mount I had a set of adapters that go from 10mm left hand thread to right hand thread (for the right side mirror). The piece that was broken was less than half the threads so I screwed the adapter in as best I could and used JB weld to glue the adapter into place so I have good threads. On the left I just screwed the adapter in so both sides look the same. Hope this helps. Rod
  18. Squidley, I understand that you sell an adapter plate for mounting the RK mufflers on the RSV headers. What is your pricing ? Is there an advantage to using the plate over using a p-clamp ? Thanks for the advise as well. Robert
  19. Didn't like the big whip antennas and I never use the CB so now I got a single short black one. Removed the CB mount and tied it up under the trunk. Got a short black rubber universial from parts store for about 5 bucks. I had to make the threaded adapter by drilling and tapping a bolt but it works great cost little and it is what I was looking for. http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/500/2508antenna_cropped_red_2_.JPG
  20. I am wanting to install the spin on oil filter adapter and have one question. On the original canister type the bolt has some type of pressure regulator in the bolt. Does these adapter plates have this valve or does the bike really need it? I would love to add this to my bike but was afraid of damage to the bike by eliminating this valve.
  21. I have a chance to buy some helmets and cords for a gl1800. Are they the same? And if they are different is there an adapter that will make it fit?
  22. Got my lifta adapter from Carbon_One the other day and my bike has been in the air ever since. Love that adapter. Of course, I can now see all the stuff underneath I need to clean/chrome/replace, but it'll keep me from running out of projects (and keep me broke). By the way, for those of you who THINK you're mechanically challenged, it'll only go on one way. Yeah, I tried several different ways and the wife stopped me when she saw I was about to strap it to seat and flip the bike over onto the lift. Actually, it takes about a minute to install and the bike is as solid as the lift from that point on. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. (C_1, would have sent this sooner, but my computer went belly up for a couple days. If it ain't one thing, it's another. Thanks for the quick turn-around on my order--it showed up the second day after ordering.)
  23. Dumb question? maybe. I don't care. I was forced into swapping my antennae out this week when I noticed the old one had gone AWOL. The mast came right out of the base. I was in the middle of about 1000 bikes on the local charity run. At one of the rest stops, I went to get a bottle of waqter out of the trunk and thought "Gee, looks like somethings missing." Once I figured out what was missing I thought, "Gee, I hope it didn't hit anybody." Here's what I've accomplished so far: My Father has an old Goldwing sitting in his garage with a firestik on it, so I borrowed that. If I can't get it dialed in I still have to buy one, but a good place to start. Bad news is, that since he took the radio stuff out years ago, he snipped the cable at the base, so that was no good. However, i work two miles down the road from a truck stop, so I wemt shopping after work. Found a cable with the one end already set up for the antenna for around 8 bucks, got the PL259 to motorola adapter for 3 bucks and picked up what seems to be a pretty sturdy fold -over adapter for another 8, I might not use that, they had another quick release adapter that allows full removal of the antenna for the same price. I think I like that idea better now that I think about it, but it will depend on where the antenna ends up in the folded position. So far, so good. Under 20 bucks spent and only another 20 to spend IF I can't get the SWR right on this antenna ( it's an older one without the quick adjust screw). BUT.....I can't figure out how the seat comes off to run the cable. I also want to install the brake light modulator my dad gave me while I'm in there. So What's the secret?
  24. My '86" sound system was slowly going down hill. I know they're a lot of tech fixes and upgrades out there. but I'm sound system impaired, so here is a great cheap upgrade. Pull the fairing signal covers off and remove the stock speakers, replace with Wal-Mart replacement upgrades, about $30 bucks, buy a cassette tape adapter $6 bucks(Wal-Mart with the cord adapter.) borrow your kids IPOD(after they put your music on a playlist), plug it in ,stick it in the leather side pocket and WOW what a great sound, works even in a high wind..
  25. Well, I just received my leveling links from Diamond R today. Is this a two person job, or something I could do myself. The instructions looked pretty straight forward. I'm picking up my lift adapter hopefully this weekend from Larry, and doing it sometime soon after. Thanks for your help.
