I am thinking of tradeing my 2nd gen trike for a 2nd gen with a sidecar. That way I can take my great pyrenees with me on road trips. I can't seem to get her to feel at ease on the trike and she doesn't want to ride in the trailer she can't hear the tunes back there and she loves music. If you have a sidecar on a 2nd gen and may be intrested in a trade let me know.

Okay now. I have a fat head. Now I'm 6'5 and 275 so it fits me fine but it makes buying a helmet very hard. I have a full face HJC XXXL. It's the 2nd one and the 2nd fits no better than the 1st. The local dealer says this is the biggest helmet out here except for some really cheap $69 helmet that looks like crap in the pics. It comes in at either 4 or 5 X. Does anyone have this issue or know of any larger helmets on the market?

Looks like a complete 2000 going as parts on E-Bay. Lot of good parts for those 2nd Gens that never need anything.

My 83 venture seems to have the famed slipping in 2nd gear. I knew this when I bought it, but it was a great price and worth the aggrivation for getting it for very little cash. I heard that when the 2nd gear was fixed the dealers made a mark on the case near the VIn number. When I had the bike apart yesterday to sync the carbs I decided to clean up the engine and tranny case and noticed what looks like someoen took a punch and make a large DOT right next to the Vin number on the textured part that holds the number. Is it possible the bike had the fix done? I am getting slipping if I accelerate hard in 2nd. but I can accelerate like a madman in 1st and 3rd and not feel any slipping. Reason I ask, I was reading the threads about the clutch and how the springs or 20 year old discs can cause slipping, and that the bike will slip in 2nd. -
I am about to purchase some Dunlop Elite IIIs. This tire comes in a radial I've heard. Is this okay to mount on the 2nd Gen. Venture? What are the pros and cons? Thanks.

I just discovered I have a cracked tab in one of my lower fairings (2nd Gen)...was hoping some of you experts here can steer me in the right direction on how to repair and what to use. Have no idea what the lower material is comprised of. ABS plastic is my guess. Help please...also do we have anything in our tech files that would show how to use something for repairing?

Question re: 2nd Gen Valve Adjustment

Well I've looked in my owner's manual, I've looked in my Yamaha Service Manual...what is the specified interval for adjusting the valves on the 2nd Gen? My mileage recently dropped and got half of it back with a carb sync today...carbs are clean...use Seafoam often. I'm thinking my valves may need adjusting and are causings some of my diminished MPG's so I'm hoping someone knows what the recommended intervals are. Also my plugs and all filters are good and have all been recently changed. Thanks in advance!!! -

Since I've just moved to the 2nd Gen crown I have a couple questions. With my 1st Gen I've always done all my work with the center stand. I don't have one with the 2nd Gen. Does it matter for things like oil changes that the bike is on the side stand or do I need to find a way to straighten it? Also, if I do need to straighten it what's the best/cheapest way to do that?

My friend just called and said his radio just guit on his 08 RSV. I have read what seems like alot of other issue's with the 2nd gen. bikes. Whats up with the 2nd gen. bikes? The 1st gen bikes never had this many problems and if there were any everyone knew about it and it was taken care of by the dealers and Yamaha. No questions. I was thinking of putting an 09 RSV beside my Rich looking Black and Gold 86 VR, but now I'm wondering if I should. Lets hear some input to help me make up my mind. I've seen alot of good natured joking going on between 1st and 2nd gens, but I have to say here, My first gen has alot going for it even if it is over the hill . ( Like Me )

Well, Mrs GigaWhiskey has a new ride and I got some work to do! She now owns a 1975 CB750K. In the pics, there is a quick before and after (as soon as I got home!). Basically, now it looks like a motorcycle. It is still a bit tall for her challenged inseam but that will be a no brainer. It may see some lowering blocks, shorter shocks and a 16" back rim with a nice fat tire. Then I will need to see how I can trim some from the front. I may consult Rick "Butt" Butler about the seat or look for a new one. I am going to enjoy this project! She runs good too and no signs of ever going down. She actually may be the 3rd owner of this bike where the 2nd one had it only 6 months. The story is the original owner was 75+ and could not deal with it any longer. If those miles on the speedo are right, there is close to a new bike there. 'specially when I get my hand deeper into it. Oh, Mrs. GigaWhiskey actually likes the old school cafe racer look, go figure, lol.

I have seen more 1st and 2nd Gen Ventures around the Branson area in the last 3 days than in 3 years in Dallas. I'll bet a few were headed to ES. There was a silver 2nd gen running with a maroon Wing - Buddy? Saw some more in Branson while most were on the highway (65). Anybody we know?

Not me.My bike took 2nd place.More than a hundred bikes and 1st place was a Victory with California sidecar and my Venture took 2nd place.Not too shabby considering there was at least 75 Brand *X * bikes there and several trikes.Also the burnout was won by a Honda Shadow.

Do any of you have a 1999 or newer H-D Ultra Classic that you use a headset on? I was wondering if they pin out is the same for it and the 2nd Gen RSV??????? Also, I cant seem to find a pinout diagram for the 2nd gen RSV headset, but I can find one for the 1st gen in the tech library. I need one for the 2nd gen.

Just wanted to get this out to everyone. The 2nd Annual Onslow Vietnam Veterans Memorial Motorcycle Run will be held on Saturday September 27th 2008. Those of you who went on this run last year can attest to the amount of bikes that were in attendance. It was well over 2,000 and hopefully there will be even more this year. This morning at 7am on the way home from work I took a different way home to get coffee. I actually saw 3 seperate 2nd Gens in a matter of less than 10 mins. I can usually go weeks without seeing one and now 3 in one day all along Hwy 441 in Orlando FL. I don't know if any of you are on this site but I'm willing to bet you all caught up with each other. They were spaced about 1/2 to 3/4 a mile apart all headed in the same direction. Pretty cool start to a day.

I was looking for any info on a possible successor to the Venture and found this http://www.gizmag.com/yamaha-set-to-release-worlds-quickest-motorcycle/9424/ its about the new Vmax but at the very bottom of the article a Spanish moto mag is reporting a "New touring version with a huge fairing for the U.S." whatever that means could be anything from a 2nd Gen look to a Victory Vision look, went to the article but its in Spanish and since I dont "Hable" I couldnt read it. Can anyone read it and report back? Possible 3rd Gen maybe?

I have noticed slippage from what i think is the clutch when i shift from 1st to 2nd under hard acceleration (full throttle). If i back off the throttle it is ok, seems like it grabs then it is good to go. This also will happen going from 2nd to 3rd but only under the same conditions. I usually ride conservatively but sometimes I like to hit it once in awhile for a little stress relief. My bike has 30,000 miles on it and it is an 86 model. Time for a new clutch? If that is needed then I take it that it will need new springs and a pressure plate also. How tough will it be to get to the slave cyl that seems to be buried in the block, since i will rebuild this also?

. . Yea, and you thought I was talking about a Venture, LOL. I got a 2nd Gen iPhone for me and Mrs. GigaWhiskey. We shore like em too! Now, to figure out how to get the phone part to work with the Intercom. Now that would be cool. And, it just crossed my mind, I can watch movies while driving but better to let the wifee do that instead.

I've noticed a LOT of concern for the soft thrust split washer on 2nd gear (and rightly so). Rather than take a chance on wasting a motor, why couldn't we just skip 2nd (except when in a tight) since there's power to spare? I realize that it takes a lot of the fun out of riding, but replacing the motor isn't much fun either. Just a thought.......
