Hi guys, My 87 is getting a little weak on starting, especially when hot. I've checked for voltage drop in the circuits (had that problem with other Yammy's) and it is normal. It's probably just a tiring battery, but I've had issues on my Virago with the starter and the one on the Venture looks similar. The Virago sometimes gets all plugged up in the brush / commutator area with brush dust and needs simply a good cleaning out. But it's realy easy to get the brush cap off on that bike because of it's location. Does the Venture have any common problems with the starter? Things that make it start operating weakly? What's involved in removing it? Do I have to go into the case cover to remove a snap ring or anything? Can I leave the starter in place and just get the brush cap off? Thanks, Jeremy

Happy New Year! I've got some questions about batteries. I'm sold on AGM technology, but why Odyssey in particular? I hear "more power" as a reason. But according to spec sheets (using the PC680 for the first gen as an example), there are other AGM batteries that have more. CCA - some have 300-350 range, Od. has 220. AH - others are rated at 22, Od. is 17. This makes sense because the Od. is actually a little smaller and lighter physically. So why go with Od. instead of the others? Are they more honest about their ratings and actually as powerful or more powerful than the others? Is it quality? Reliability? Life? I've known other brand AGM batteries to last 5-6 years in a bike or quad, which as you know is probably double the average for wet cell. Also, why does Od. specify the "MJ" version for the Venture when some other bikes call for the standard PC680? Does the batt compartment in the Venture get much hotter than others? Anybody got an opinion, rumor or lie they would like to share about this? Thanks, Jeremy

This is a link to an interesting article and pictures about taking $1000 bikes on a 1000 mile ride. The author chose to take his 83 Venture. There are some very nice pictures available. Enjoy, RandyA http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1751

hi all, new to this site, presently ride an 02 suzuki volusia which i absolutely love but an looking at a nwe 07 venture blue/black and their price is 13,900.00 I think that's a good deal in that that is quite a drop from 17,300.00. Anyway have sat on one with wife on it and we both fell in love with it, I would like your thoughts on the weight balance in town riding and relibility of the bike it. also being it is a 1300cc how is the power in low gears as well as on the highway passing high gears. thanks and you all have a great website. brian d.

I purchased a hitch from Denray. They said I should install a Denray hitch part number 71 on my 86 Venture Royal. After it arrived I held it up under the back of the bike to size up the installation. It doesn't look wide enough to attach to the saddle bag supports. I may be wrong but will know soon as I am in the process of removing a failed hitch. Has anyone else installed a Denray hitch on the 86 version of the Venture Royal? If so what was the part number of the hitch. Perhaps Denray accidentally packed the wrong hitch.

I saw a thread that a guy was selling a set of midnight Venture forks. Not even sure if it was on this sight. Help finding him would be great. Barry

Throughout the summer I sometimes thought that the engine heat off my new Venture was a bit excessive. However, now that it's wintertime, I have decided that it's not too bad at all. I guess that it's all perspective. Pete.

Of new CHROME parts for the VENTURE. So far I have CHROME mirrors and CHROME clutch/brake lever. Found quite a few parts for handle controls for the 1100's/1600/1700 YAMAHAS but the VENTURE gets kinda sparse. Any other you all come up with. Would love some new rims but can not find them............Ron

No no, I ain't giving one away. Lets venture down to Houma LA and soak up the warm for a couple of days. Thinking about leaving within the next 7 days, heading south through Montgomery and on down through Mobile, then on to Houma. Cold beer and mud bugs await, lots of warm temps and even Cycle world is there. Who interested?

Hi everyone, I'm seriously considering trading in my DL1000 V-strom to purchase a Venture so my wife can go on trips with me. I saw one this last weekend at the Seattle International Motorcycle Show, was *very* interested but had some questions the sales people weren't too keen on asking. Can't really say I blame them, but I was wondering if your group would mind answering a few of the questions they didn't have an answer for.. 1. Has there been any significant changes to the Venture for the past 4 years? 2. What is the most common problem with this model, and what is the usual fix? 3. How much additional current is available for items such as heated clothing, GPS etc.? 4. If there was one thing you wish you could do to improve the Venture what would it be? Lastly, this would be an every-day rider (well ok 9-10 months out of the year). Any big maintenance issues to be concerned about outside routine maintenance? Thanks for your time. It's basically a toss-up between this bike and a Gold Wing.
