  1. Our local CMA chapter had a great day of riding and fellowship, and raised some money for a good cause. We had approximately 20 bikes and couldn't have any better weather for riding. Rode a familiar 150 mile loop that I've used during the Skid-In 2009.....
  2. Wizard765 and Marcarl came down this afternoon and we took a little ride before dinner. It's a whole different world but I'm starting to really like it!!! Stil gonna keep Goldie for 2 wheels and ride both frequently but I can see eventually selling Goldie and keeping the trike forever..
  3. Rode the bike into work tonight for the first time with the Avon Tires and the lowering kit removed.......all I gotta say is WOW! The bike rode good before, but the tires are unbelieveable! Well worth the money. I cruised I-95 at about 75 and felt like I was on air. Can't wait until I get off in the morning so I can ride home. Thanks for pointing me toward the AVON's fellow VentureRiders! :dancefool::dancefool: Ben
  4. Well I ought to know better, but I took the weatherman at his word. The weather here was supposed to be partly cloudy, 20% chance of afternoon spot showers and temperature near 60. Well we took off this morning for a ride to a "Blessing of the Bikes" event in Philadelphia, MS (184 mile round trip). Temp was 55 when we left and sun was trying to break through. Well the farther we rode, the cloudier it got and the cooler it got and the wind was gusting enough to blow us around on the road. When we got to Philadelphia the temp on one business sign was 49F. Oh well we made it and had a good time. Got a cold hot dog, a bag of chips and a drink, for lunch. Met some really nice folks and even though we had the only RSV there we did see two RSTDs. Trip back was even cooler as we were riding back INTO the gusty wind. All in all though, a good day, even though for one un-named RSMV rider it was "too cold" to come out!!! :stickpoke::rasberry:
  5. First of all, with Riderduke's help, I threw a surprise birthday party for George last Friday! Everyone showed up at Texas Roadhouse here in Columbia on Friday afternoon and George was VERY surprised when he and I got there and he started recognizing our VR family! Already there were Riderduke, Mini-Muffin, Beer30, Sledgehammer, Venturing Sole, Pecker, Bugfish69, Ladybug, Painterman and Laura and Wanderer. Then in a few minutes, Blackjack, 86er and Eck came in! After dinner, Blackjack, 86er and Eck headed back to George and Alabama (they made the trip just for dinner!) and everyone else came to our house and spent Friday night and Saturday night! We all stayed up late playing Wii games! I cooked breakfast Saturday morning and after a leisurely morning, we rode to Lake Wateree. Sledgehammer needed to get back home so he left. After lunch at our favorite marina, we headed back to Columbia via DQ and a stop at Auto Zone for a couple of bike maintenance projects. There was a store next door for "spirits". We got home and the guys worked on the bikes and solved the world's ills at the same time! I had put some chicken catetori in the crock pot and with garlic toast and salad, supper was ready! After watching the movie GI Joe The Rise of Cobra, much to Riderduke's delight, everyone was ready to crash! Getting up early was in the works for this morning so we rode over to Lizard's Thicket and ate breakfast. Sleeperhawk and I rode up with the group as far as Lumberton, North Carolina, said our goodbyes and headed home! We had such a blast all weekend! I cannot tell you how much Sleeperhawk enjoyed this surprise and what a delightful time we had with our VR family! So many thanks to everyone for making this happen and keeping it a surprise! And the reason for the title of this post is that Riderduke has discovered the beginnings of his "Hair-him". Pictures are worth a thousand words, but I must add that the last picture is a result of the "morning after"! Sleeperhawk has posted the rest of the pictures in the Picture Folder!
  6. Got to ride today. Got stuck on the ice getting out of the garage and coming back in to. 120 miles. Met up with a Harley riding buddy that I had done some work for on some of his bike parts.Dropped them off and rode home.....Pretty chilly once the sun went down. Geez,I felt like Scooter Bob out there riding thru the snow...
  7. I went to put new oil seals in my 86 last night, and it seems the PO, or his mech had left out a few parts when they were last worked on...AAARGH! the shop manual names them spring seat, and guide. funny shaped washer and tube piece at the top of the forks. i test rode it before i knew these were missing and it didnt seem bad, but id like to find the parts, the guide does not show available from dealers and junk yards only want to sell whole fork set ups. Any one have extra parts lyin around theyd be willing to sell?
  8. Tail of the Dragon...I :dancefool: Only 2 more months than I will be okay :rotfl:
  9. Took it out today, some streets still snow covered. Good to get out for 30 minutes, although some of those minutes were a little tense. http://media.kansascity.com/smedia/2009/12/25/10/ChristmasSnow083_ME_12-25-09_JFS.standalone.prod_affiliate.81.jpg
  10. It is 17 degrees here is south georgia and I rode my bike to work. The post man just delivered the mail and said when he was in germany he rode his bike in the snow but I was crazy riding in this weather. He said with the wind chill it is probably 0. I rode it this morining just to show people I can. Did any of you ride this morning?
  11. Local tire shop got my Kuhmo 165/80 R15 and installed it for me. They got a little nervous trying to set the tire. so they put it in a cage to set it. They said it set at around 100 PSI. Took it for a little test ride last night, about 10 miles. No problems. Rode it to work this morning. 7 miles of twisties and 23 miles of Interstate Hwy. Love it! Bike rode great. Running 35 PSI air pressure. So far, so good. Hello Darkside! Glenn
  12. Quickstep and I rode to Albany, in the south east of our state, for the weekend and to take part in the town christmas pageant. It was also to help promote our Ulysses Club AGM and Rally in their area March next year. I rode there and back with Alan as my pillion, so am really pleased. That's my longest ride since the accident-- 985 Klm's Rode down with a group from another branch and took the scenic route through some great country towns and the Stirling Ranges. 37C when we left !! Only 30C for the ride home, so bit cooler.
  13. Wow! I love this weather, November 29th and just barely jacket weather here in East Tennessee. Our daughter is in for Thanksgiving and happened to mention that she had never ridden the Dragon. So, of course, I knew then that I just had to take her there. We got there late in the afternoon and had the road almost to ourselves and rode end to end and back taking time to enjoy the ride. To top off the day we rode the Foothills Parkway from Tellico Lake to Hwy 321, then finished the day with a big steak at the local Outback. We rode right at 200 miles with great scenery and enjoyed a great meal. Life is good...
  14. My wife decided she wanted to ride so she went to the ABATE safety course. She was top of her class. A couple weeks later she bought a 2000 Honda Shadow ACE 750 from some people she knows from work. She was doing good until she jumped a curb, didn't lay it down, she rode it out. Tore her ACL in her right knee. She rode it again this last weekend before we put it away for the winter. Having surgery on her knee in two weeks to repair the ACL. She'll be ready to ride by Spring. She's planning on riding it to Maintenance Day at Don's....... The above paragraph was posted on another thread awhile back. Sue had surgery yesterday on her knee to repair/replace the ACL she tore in her mishap. Everything went well and she is recuperating. She can't do a whole lot for awhile but she should be ready to ride again by Spring. Yes, I'm being the good husband and taking good care of her.

    A good day

Like I said, I haven't been able to ride for a month between bad weather, and my TCI going out on me. Today, we went riding some good twisty roads with my oldest son and his girlfriend. He rides my old bike, that I sold him last March. I may be buying it back from him after he takes off to Basic Training next month. We rode some good twisties, then took the ferry across the lake, then rode the twisties again. We then ended up at our favorite local hangout, for some good bbq and 'liquid refreshment". Great times. I'm soooo glad to be riding again. Click on the pic... http://s74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/th_IMG_0063.jpg
  16. I bought the BMW and rode it about 120 miles today. I don't think I have ever rode a bike that was that smooth and it handled great. Please don't disown me I still have my Venture and will keep it. It is a 1999 K1200 LT with 15000 miles.
  17. :rotfl: 93 Harleys, 5 Goldwings, Honda Crotch Rocket and My Kawasaki KLR 650 (Rode 196 miles) I showed Them They said I couldnt catch up to them There were 5 stops, I got a Pair of 9's with King High , The winning hands were A straight to 10 ,, 3-A's and 3-9's I received a Certificate for a Haircut and a Blow Dry which I will be giving to Four Paws All Proceeds went to The Food Bank In our Area
  18. So... I got to Jonesing for a new bike. I was looking hard at the new Triumph Rocket III Touring. Test rode it for about 30 miles yesterday. I loved the power, the way it handled, and sooooo smooth. However, there's a LOT of hot air coming off the radiator and headers. In winter it would be great...summer would be a killer. Then I rode the Triumph Thunderbird....new 1600cc parallel twin. It was Surprisingly strong...would give the Rocket Tourer (not the classic) a good run. But it felt too small and light for Interstate riding. Plus it got real buzzy at highway speeds even with the 6th gear. So...this morning I went and rode a new 1700 Kaw Nomad. I have owned a 2000 Nad and loved it. The one I rode today ran pretty well, rode and handled nicely, but had an awful gear whine, which was a deal breaker for me. My RSTD whines but not like that. Anyway, I brought the RSTD home and will probably put 2 new tires on it and ride it a while longer until something else like a really nice Valk Interstate comes along.
  19. I was riding Saturday and came up behind a group of guys on bikes, mostly harleys, they were running a little slower than I was but not enough for me to pass the on a 2 lane. So I just rode along behind, and began to notice how they rode, sitting straight up, heads held up chin up, first thought was these guys ride with good posture. So I straighten up out my normal slouchy postion, but then as we went through intersections they looked straight ahead not really looking at the cars coming up to the intersections. At one crossroads a pickup appeared that he was not going to stop, he actually had to slam on brakes and slide to a stop, not one of the 7 bikes in frount of me made any adjustment or preperations to avoid the truck. last bike on the right missed the frount bumper of the truck on a few inches, I had allready moved left and slowed to be ready if he came out. But the others rode on as if they never saw him. This is way many bikers get hurt, they ride like they own the road, yes we had the right-of-way, but he was in a 3/4 ton four wheel drive. I thought of RANDYA's signs off, Ride as if you are invisible not invincible words to stay alive by. thanks RandyA and mine now, You might have the right-of-way, but ride like you don't. Gregg
  20. I have bad hips, so my Venture is getting pretty tough, especially at intersections 2up. So, I have been thinking of going the trike way. I rode my first Trike yesterday, finally, after looking at them and asking about them for a year or so. First off, I stopped at one of the local HD dealers to look at their 'from the factory' trikes - they didn't have one. The salesman told me they sell them as fast as they come in. So, I went to a local shop that sells & installs several Trike kits. The guy was wonderfully helpful! He let me test drive one and said to take it for a half hour or so. 'Enjoy yourself'. So, my wife & I climbed on and took it down the street heading for the Interstate. - I didn't get that far. I just didn't feel very stable with the steering. My wife said that she felt like she was being thrown side to side. It was me trying to get used to the handling - NO Leaning and turning with the handlebars. The trike rode wonderful and I'm sure that one gets used to the handling, but for the 15 minutes I was on it, I didn't care for it. I only got the trike up to about 45ish, I didn't feel comfortable enough to go faster. So, I told the guy thanks for his time and letting me try one, but I will wait until I absolutely HAVE to have to either give up riding or get a trike. The guy said he understood, but assured me that if I took the bike for a longer ride, I would get comfortable with it. I just don't think I am ready to give up on my leaning yet. It's just my opinion, I am in no way meaning to bash trikes. They just aren't for me, (yet). craigr
  21. This gives new meaning to "stuck at home": From my visit to the Huntsville Meet and Eat on Saturday 5 Sep 09, I rode the 4 hours up mostly in the rain. I rode the 4 hours back always in the rain and I guess it never stopped raining at my house and this is the result on my return. I'm flipping stuck! http://lh4.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/SqUmjeahi_I/AAAAAAAAA1Q/29--PzI1mrc/s640/0905091821.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/SqUmjlAfO_I/AAAAAAAAA1U/0_vbCFWQUI0/s640/0905091822.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/SqUmjtWxjEI/AAAAAAAAA1Y/OuVOQcgZ4HI/s640/0905091822a.jpg I gradually dug my way out in about 45 minutes. Just thought you might find this interesting. Can't remember when I've had more fun.
  22. I rode 4 hours to trade my suzuki c50 for an 07 blue venture. When I got to the dealer, the first thing I did was take the venture out for a test ride. The first thing I notice about a half mile down the road is the chirpping sound that so many talk about here. Brought it back to the lot, told the sales person about it... then they try to tell me they all do that, and it is normal. Finally the mechanic let me take his personal 07 venture out to try it, and voila, nice smooth quiet venture. So I left the bike there and rode back home. No deal!! The bike has already had the i basket replacement and the rear diff shimmed or aligned under warranty, and is apparently still noisy. So I just don't want to buy a bike that is not smooth and quiet. Why is it so hard to find the right one?? Hasn't someone found a real cure for this noise problem with these bikes? Im pretty frustrated at this point. I just want a nice trouble free blue venture with no issues.

    Rode a Can-Am Spyder

At the GiantSideRally in Lubbock, I took a demo ride on the Can-Am Spyder. For the Darksiders: These have a car tire on the back...does that count???? I rode one of these Can-Am Spyders yesterday...yes thats me in the blue shirt..we were on an escorted demo ride around the lake perimeter...lasted about 15 minutes. You had a choice of riding a standard 5 speed or a 5 speed automatic. I rode the auto. You push a left thumb button to upshift, and downshifts are fully automatic..they do also have a reverse. It was sure different!! My overall impression is that for a motorcycle rider, its not all that!....but...for someone who cant (or wont) ride a 2 wheel bike, this might be kinda fun. They are quick, and they sure do turn heads! http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/can-am/IMG_2680.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/can-am/IMG_2681.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/can-am/IMG_2682.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/can-am/IMG_2685.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/can-am/IMG_2686.jpg
  24. Just wanted to share with you all the great ride I had on Sunday. Alan removed the back brake pad to give room for my right boot and I led a Ulysses Club ride for the first time in two year's. We went up into the hills for breakfast, and we were joined by 34 bikes!!!!!! Alan rode pillion with me (trusting guy) and after brekky we rode around the dam and back down the hills to finish down on the foreshore for coffee. MAGIC:clap2:
  25. I just bought a 2005 Midnight Venture with 400 miles. I rode it 30 miles changed the oil and rode it another 480. The bike runs and sounds pretty good and I suspect it will run even better as I get some more miles under her and seat up the rings. Most factory machines can see a notable improvement with the addition of slip on mufflers, air filters and carburator jetting. Usually there inexpensive options avialable to those in the know. I think the Venture needs a little more gusto since it is heavy and has a mid sized motor. I think this combination/ design bike has been around since 99 so I would think there should be plenty of after market options out there. give me some news on what you all out there have done and how much it helped.
