  1. I am really enjoying my recently acquired 83 Venture Royale. I believe the radio speakers and in desparate need of replacement. Can someone tell me what size replacement speakers I need to get? I don't want to take the fairing apart to see because I want to ride the bike up until I'm ready to do the speaker swap. Thanks!
  2. I just received my polk speakers that I ordered ..and now I can't find the topic with pictures how to install these speakers. does anyone knows, where I can find that topic ?
  3. Has anyone put in MTX speakers? I think they sound better than polk. Any comments would be great.
  4. Big problem, last week my radio and cb quit working. To be more specific my speakers and headset will play a radio station but at a volume one can barely hear(must turn bike off). 1. All Controls work on handle bar control(just not loud enough) Must be on 30 to barely hear. 2. Audio fuses check out good. 3. Cleaned and dielectric greased ALL connections under fairing including radio ground and the red, yellow, white and blue booted connections. 4. Took controler apart and dielectric greased connection and bypassed volume control knob with no change in volume Question... Where in the heck is the amplifier on this bike? I have yet to find one.
  5. Tried finding this already.. can't find a thread with the info. I just got all the wires and all for my intercom headsets. I, however, use a half helmet and would like to hear all audio out of the speakers. Passenger wants helmet speakers. I can hear CB & radio out of speakers, but not getting any intercom. Any tips? Or does intercom not go through speakers?
  6. I am in the process of installing Polk speakers. For those of you that have done this mod, how did you connect the speakers to the existing speaker wires? Solder etc.... Thanks, Steve
  7. Well here i go, going to atemp to install some ALPINE speakers and AMPLIFIER speakers are not going to be the problem its the amp im concerned about.End result Juke Box on 2wheels that holds over 2000 songs. LOVE my tunes load and clear!!!!!
  8. Looking for some new speakers for my 2006 RSV. Anyone suggestions for new speakers would be appreciated.
  9. I am always asking questions and getting great advice and tips from everyone on here...thought I would give back (if only a little). I recently spoke (in another thread) about my first longer ride and the use of the headset vs speakers vs earbuds, and how I rated each of them. Just to summarize...I rated these three options on a scale of 10. Speakers .... 4 Headset...... 2 Earbuds....... 8 (maybe even a 9 on a better set of buds) Anyway, in order to utilize the headset with earbuds you need the motorcycle adapter to convert the headset to a mini-plug. The first one I bought I paid over $50.00 for it at a 3rd party location on the net...however I found the actual vendor online and now this adapter can be had for only $24.95. Here is the company URL: http://plugup.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=19 Like I said, using the earbuds is a HUGE improvement sound wise, as well as eliminating the wind and motor noise (got rid of my WHINE ). I know there might be some safety issues with earbuds, that's something you'll have to work out on your own...but for MUCH BETTER SOUND...this is the ONLY way to go. Wally
  10. Cold weather riding with a Tall Wide Clearview, Buddy's knee wind deflectors and extra clothing makes for a fun ride.. near 32'F and 0'C today, high winds meh.. gotta get out when the going is good.. All works well but my radio decided to play silly bugger.. Here's what I experienced, and I am hoping it's really only because of the cold.. Riding down the road, the LCD panel would go out and come back on.. flicker.. stay on for a while and go off.. not bump related, not turn related.. just does it at odd times.. then it changed channels on it's own.. and of course its on that type of channel ya just hate to listen to but the controller won't let you change channels.. it's locked in on that one.. argh.. now what? Silence is golden after that. However, I get the bike back into the heated garage and I cannot duplicate the problem.. argh.. Touch and yank and jiggle everything I can reach, bang on this pull on that and nothing.. it works all perfect.. Can't duplicate it in the garage.. On another note, I added speaker baffles behind the speakers recently and wow, I didn't think they would make that much of a difference.. but the sound is richer coming out of the speakers.. more dynamic.. not bad for 8 bucks a pair of foam baffles..
  11. OK, so as some of you know, I bought my bike on December 11th. I brought it straight home on a 30 degree day and parked it in the garage. It sat there for more than 2 weeks without being moved and although I did have a couple of 5, 10 and 20 miles rides (and maybe the longest was 60 miles)...I still didn't really get a chance to "enjoy" the bike. And frankly, I was pretty disappointed with my decision to trade my 6 year old VTX in on this RSV. I had 2 months of buyers remorse!! But during the last 2 months I did do some mods on the bike. I had the seat done by Rick Butler (thank you sir), I had the back lowered with lowering links, I added risers, a stebel horn, and finally a garage button. Today, I finally got a chance to put some SERIOUS miles on the bike...a 250 mile day (and some of the best BBQ I have had in a long, long time). So a buddy (he rides a 950) and I rode over to Helena, AR to check out a motel that he wants to stay in during the upcoming Wild Hog Music Fest Rally on April 22-24. It's about 125 miles over there (250 miles round trip)...and a small amount of interstate (30 miles). Today was GORGEOUS...temps in the mid 60's and sunny...just a great day for a ride. So there's the background...now the ride. First and foremost, after today's ride I am no longer suffering from buyer's remorse. The ride was very comfortable and I am starting to get used to the gearing. The power on a longer ride is much more appreciated...short rides you just can't appreciate the acceleration this bike has got. Handling was much better also on the longer ride. I am very comfortable in cornering now. So that's the good...and really there is no bad, but just some other observations. 1. I did go over a couple of large bumps and it may have bottomed out...I don't know for sure though. 2. I really don't like the the way they have the fuel alert system set up. My F alert comes on at 147 miles and shortly thereafter the FUEL LIGHT and then the bike starves for fuel (just like everyone here has said)...and I am afraid of how far I can go on the reserve. 3. The audio system, CB, my Zumo and then the Speakers, Helmet with Edsets and my Shure Earbuds - I could never get the CB to work the way I wanted it too...maybe I just need to work on it some more. I rarely heard anyone on it (when I was on the interstate), and no one would return my radio check (no, I wasn't annoying ). I have mixed feelings about the speakers on the bike. Sometimes they aren't too bad, and other times they just sound real "tinny" and "hollow". A lot depends on the genre of music and of course the quality of the signal or mp3 playing. I purchased a Scorpion Helmet (3/4) and sent it off to Edsets to have their helmet speaker system installed into the helmet. To be honest, I believe the fairing speakers sound better (to me) than the Edsets. The Edsets had virtually no bass and sound volume was not very impressive. The hookup, and utility for the other features of the headset are probably fine, but for me the sound out of the speakers left a little to be desired. Later in the ride I plugged in my adapter to be able to use my earbuds to hear the audio system including my Zumo 660 directions and the MP3 player on it. WOW...what a beautiful difference it made. I had used these same earbuds with this same Zumo on my other bike and the earbuds were directly connected to the Zumo...sound was still very good, but the volume was always at MAX levels. Now with the Zumo being played through the RSV audio system, the AMP makes this MUCH better quality and volume. If I had assign a number grade to the three options of listening to audio on the RSV, I would rate them in the following order on a 10 point scale. Fairing Speakers - 4 Edset Helmet Speakers - 2 Earbuds (Shure or otherwise) - 8 I'm a pretty happy camper right now. Not ecstatic yet, but happy. I hope that most of issues I have had with the bike are just not being familiar with how the bike handles and operates. I got time! Thanks to everyone for your help and I do appreciate the tips and suggestions many of you have offered. Wally

    CB Radio

I noticed that inside the black plastic box that protects the CB that there is a gray 1/4" (I think) plug that's not being used. Is this where a microphone could be plugged in instead of having to use the headset mic? I want to use a handheld mic for times when I don't wear my full face with mic and speakers. Thanks......
  13. i put a set of polk audio db 401 speakers in the front and rear of my rsv, last year and never got around to posting pics. here they are and i hope they will help you. purchase some wire terminal ends that fit the speakers before you start the project along with some two sided tape to reatatch rear arm rest covers, and note that the screws under the rear armrest are different in length. solder all your connections e-mail with any questions?? mike
  14. Does anyone have or know of a Batwing fairing for for a 2007 Tour Deluxe. Looking for one with radio and speakers.
  15. Can anyone give me a lead on where to buy replacement speakers for my 1989 Venture Royale?
  16. My 01 RSV volume control on the rear speakers do not work. Any ideas as to what the problem may be. Thanks Jinx56:doh:
  17. So I need some info on changing the speakers on my 03 RSV I was looking at the Plok Audio db401 any info on the speaker and install please post. How much better will they sound than stock and are any better? Thanks
  18. The his in my helmet is really starting to bother me. I've noticed it since day one on the bike, if I have my helmet plugged in I get hiss. I like to be plugged in so I can switch to helmet speakers at freeway speeds to hear the stereo. At lower speeds I leave it on speakers. I have the intercom volume at 0, and it doesn't matter if I have the radio going to speakers or helmet there is a hiss. My wife says she hears it too, but she has a physical volume control back there and will just turn it to 0 and it goes away. (If I want to talk to her I tap her on the leg and she turns her volume back up.) But the only way I can get rid of mine is to unplug. Has anyone figured out how to solve this? One thought I have is to find an actual volume control that will plug in between the helmet and the bike, but as of yet I have not found one.
  19. I can turn on my radio and the control functions just fine but I'm not getting any sound out of my speakers. I switched between SP and HS and nothing. When I plugged in my headset and switched to HS I can barely here music coming through my helmet speakers. All fuses are fine. I don't see anything loose under the fairing which is split right now. HELP!!!!! Thanks in advance, Carl

    speakers

Has anyone changed out the speakers on their bikes so that they can hear the rock music better? Country music you can understand but if you try to listen to anything else you can't understand it at high speed. It sounds like rap music when you are at the speed limit.
  21. I have a very nice '99 RSV, but I am getting the most annoying rattle and vibration from the area of the backrest, speaker housing or trunk that I cannot identify. I've tightened every bolt and screw I can find, lubed the trunk lid hinges, removed and reinstalled everything from the front seat on back to the trunk, and still cannot find the source. I've had my wife sit backward on the rear seat while we rode up and down the street to try to isolate it, but even she can't nail it down. The speakers work OK at all volumes, so I don't think it's them, unless it's inside the housing itself. I'm stumped. Any ideas? Thanks.
  22. probably a dumb question , but I'll ask it anyway. On a 91 vr will the bikes speakers and the headset speakers play at the same time?? WHen I have the headset button pressed the bikes speakers are not playing and when I dont have the headset button the bikes speakers play but not the headset. Just wandering if they both playor if its ine or the other. Thanks in advance, David
  23. Ok, here's my newest problem. The guy that I bought my bike from had installed an aftermarket radio. I didn't like the look so about two months ago I installed the OEM radio in my 83' standard. I wanted the classic look back and I enjoy that feature that allows the volume to deminish when you slow down. Anyway...From the beginning I had problems with powered antenna on the bike. I've never been able to get a strong enough signal. Not a big deal at this point, because I'm just using my little iPod and enjoy the tunes. But, for the past couple of weeks it's been developing a buzzing noise coming through the speakers. At first it wasn't anything too bad. But now its really loud. It only seems to happen upon excelleration, and continued riding. If I come to a stop the noise becomes only moderat. I've tried unplugging the iPod (which I'm just running through the tape deck with an adaptor.) and that doesn't change anything. I've tried using the radio. Nada. Same problem. I've tried taking everything appart and checking connecting. Everything is tight and appears to be connected correctly. I'm wondering what I may be missing. Oh, BTW, this noise comes through the speakers even is the radio isn't turned on. Hope someone can help. This is really bumming out my rides. Thanks
  24. Right speaker louder then the left. Is there a way to balance the speakers?
