  1. crockettrider hope you are ok from the storms that hit your town last night. reguards don c.
  2. We got home from picking up the 07 Tour Deluxe I purchased. I didn't ride it home due to some sinus junk but had an opportunity to zip around town a bit tonight. I am surprised at how much lighter it is than my Ventures. I can see myself riding in town more than before. I haven't had it on a road so I can't compare. I need to get a new left side lower as he leaned the bike up against something and took a chunck out of the lower. If you see a black one on Ebay that matches an 07 please let me know. Other than that the bike is like new with 1200 miles and warranty good through September of 2014!
  3. Time for the right eye this time! Sure will be great to have two eyes matching in brightness again!! Of course I will appreciate your prayers! Looking forward to another few weeks off from work! If you're in town please stop by, I like company. Hopefully we wil have a couple of rainstorms followed by sunny and warm temps!!!!! I wanna ride!
  4. We had a great trip to meers. When we got there they where lined up out the door and down the street, so we headed for Holy City, what a neat place. Then on over to Mt. Scott, the highest point in Oklahoma. Gunny & Robbie had to head back home so we pressed on to get the Waurika Dam. This was my last check point on my dam tour. After getting my picture we headed for Ardmore to get a room. Got there, no rooms available in town so we headed for Davis with a stop at Turner falls. No rooms in Davis, so we headed for Sulpfur, you guessed it no rooms. The next town was Ada. Since this was 120 miles from home we had dinner and home we went under the “BIG MOON” 586 miles for me. I got home at 11:30PM. Here is the photo show of the trip http://www.photoshow.com/watch/fE2Cg9cP?source=em_ps_show_owner Phill

  6. How many are using a smaller bike for daily in town quick trips? I have been thinking it would be nice to have a little bike for in town running and quick trips close to home. Id love to have a small vespa typwe scooter as our town is really small and a helmet is not required. Just thinking outloud.
  7. A little jaunt on sunday took me to Popeye's home town. I've never seen him though!
  8. There have been a lot of this type of thing circulate as spam emails in recent years but I can vouch for this one. My cousin's daughter's 2nd grade class is looking for postcards! If you can help by sending one from your area, that would be great and very much appreciated. Thank you for anything you can do! Here are details: Nola's class is asking people to send them postcards from other places. They are going to read the postmark and label that town on their class map. Then they will read the postcard and find out who sent it. If there is information about the place, the town or the state they will learn about that too. If you have an opportunity, could you send a postcard to: Mrs. Larson's Class Clay Central/ Everly Box 110 Royal, Iowa 51357
  9. An illustrated bailout plan that just might work... It is a slow day in the damp little town of Oberlin, Ohio. The rain is beating down and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt and everybody lives on credit. On this particular day a rich Venture rider from Texas rides into town, stops at the local hotel and lays a $100 note on the desk, telling the hotel owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night. The owner gives him some keys and, as soon as the visitor has walked upstairs, the hotelier grabs the note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher. The butcher takes the note and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer. The pig farmer takes the note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel. The guy at the Farmers' Co-op takes the note and runs to pay his drinks bill at the pub. The pub owner slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit. The hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel owner with the same note. The hotel proprietor then places the note back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything. At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money and leaves town. No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and looking forward to the next Venture rider maintenance day with a lot more optimism. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how a bailout package works...
  10. Is there anyone in Athelstane, WI that can look at a 99 Venture for me? The fellow selling it seems to have issues getting pics uploaded, plus there is no substitute for someone to actually get there and have a look. We have a few days until the fellow gets back in town for Christmas, so theres no rush. Brian
  11. Went on the Make A. Difference ride this morning. It's an annual ride to raise money for our local spinal and rehabilitation hospital. nice way to pay back for the care they gave me on several occasions. Got to take one of the nurses for a ride to a motorcycle festival in a country town. This town is recovering after deverstating bush fires, so nice to be able to inject some money into their local economy...and raise some at the same time
  12. could anyone tell me what the voltage should be at the battery is when bike is running. 08 RSTD I would think it is the same as a venture. 1000 miles on bike stopped to get gas 30 miles from home headed out of town went to start bike and all I got was click click. So there I was got a push start it fired up I took off down the road stop 40 mile later and it started right up. and did all day long. Took bike to dealer when I got back to town and they said it was a loose negative cable. I find that hard to believe when it seemed to charge back up. they did say it only had 33% charge on it but battery did check out OK.
  13. While poking around on the web this morning I ran acrossed this Hotel in France. http://www.bikershotel.it/citta/Chalais/1/ Must be a distant 'Chalais' cousin.... I'll have to drop in and say Hi the next time I'm in town....
  14. I'm sure this info is buried in the tech section, but does anyone have an answer for the night ride glare I get off my 2nd gen venture screen? Surely there must be a film of something we can stick/spray on to cut down the glare. In town its almost impossible to ride without me considering chopping down the screen, something I don't want to do as it may affect my pillions ride. Cheers
  15. today is the http://riverroar.com/ yep all day just a few blocks from the house kind of cool EH!
  16. OK....I'm going to tell the story and THEN we can discuss punishment. There is a certain Canadian member here whom you just can't be nice to. The member in question has long wondered about the performance of the Second Gen Venture as he plans to replace his bike at some time in the future. So, out of the kindness of my heart, I asked this member if he would like to take my '99 on a test ride. He was pleased to do so. I got busy and have no idea how long he was gone but some time later I got this telephone call. It went something like this. Him: Hey Don, uh...do you keep proof of insurance and registration somewhere on your bike? Me: Yes, it should be in the trunk. Him: Well, what do the cops around here usually ask for? Me: That is usually all they need. What is going on? Him: Well, I was going through that first town that you told me about, the first one you come to when you turn South on 58. Me: Yes? Him: A green pickup pulled out in front of me just as I was going into town. Me: OK. Well, are you all right? Him: Yes, I'm fine...but the bike...... Me: Well, you are OK, that's the important thing. Exactly where are you? Him: Just as you come into town, across from that DrugSav. Me: OK, well I'm on my way, should be there in about 10 minutes. Him: OK. So, I grab my keys and head out of the garage to get in my car and HERE HE COMES RIDING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. LAUGHING LIKE HECK. Now...THAT was a BAD joke. Cruel and unusual punishment. Bad Canadian...BAD BAD CANADIAN. So...should I ban him or keep him around long enough to get EVEN. I'm not saying who is was but his initials are SWIFTY.
  17. Ok Don Did you get the group a spot in the line up for the Parade on Sat. at noon ?????? lots going on tis weekend in town search for Oberlin Ohio Juneteenth Oberlin, Inc. hope link works
  18. Just noticed that you live in Opelousas! The hubby and I have been to LA 2 times, and both were to your town!!! Our partner company owns Evangeline Downs and they brought us down there to show us the property. Both times were in July and it was so hot and humid, I about died! One of the guys that led us around on a tour had a crawfish boil party at his house. I had never eaten it before, but I was brave enough to eat the head off! Anyway, it was about 95 degrees that day with about 120% humidity.....he had the COLDEST beer I have ever drank in my life! It was a great party and a memory I will always treasure! Just thought it was funny when I saw you lived there and that's the only town I've ever been in down there, except for spending a few days in New Orleans.
  19. So a few months ago, a gal I work with (she shares an office with me) had asked about my bike (she sees my crash jacket & helmet sitting next to my desk every day) and we had a nice little chat about it. Turns out, some of her only memories of her and her father were of her riding on the back of his wing. She asked if I would mind taking her for a ride sometime, of course, I said no problem - just let me know when. Well work finally slowed down some (and classes are over for a while) so we planned it for today. I roll up to her place around 745 or so. She is out on the porch waiting for me, and pretty much set to go. I hand off the extra crash jacket I have and helmet, we chit-chat a little and take off. My mistake was thinking that she just wanted a quick ride. So I take her for a 20 minute spin around town and down one of the only decent roads within 10 miles of town here and as I start to head back to town she says 'going back so soon?'. My response of 'I'll stay out as long as you want to' was followed up with 'how about a ride up to Palo Duro canyon?' (this is about a 220 mile round-trip straight there and back) While verifying with her that she knew how far it was, she had commented on how she had been there just recently and knew, blah blah blah, but she wanted to take a 'scenic route' up and back. At this point I was about like and said "Fine by me, lets go". So, I pull a u-turn and take off. We stop at a few scenic turn outs along the way for a peek or two at the views at each place (which are few and far between here in the panhandle). I have attached a few shots. Since I've got the headsets in the helmets we chatted along the way and she was enjoying herself, which is good. We end up stopping for lunch and I pulled up to her place around 430 or so (~400 miles later) to let her off and she already wanted to know when she could go again :yikes: . Now, to be clear here, we are just friends and I have no intentions of it going any further, but dang, that about brought a tear to my eye. While we were out, at one of the scenic turn outs a small group (turned out to be a portion of the STAR riders from Amarillo) pulled up and we chatted. They had 2 or 3 RSTDs, 1 Strat, a V-star and a black royal star tour classic (I think). I also chatted with an 84 year old man that was on an 08 wing that had over 60k on it, he was one happy rider. So I get home and see that I have a few voicemails. It turns out that her boyfriend didn't know that she was going to be out all day and had her cell phone (which obviously had my number in it). I had no idea and meant no harm, but he mentioned numerous times that he was her boyfriend and wanted to know when we'd be back. Apparently he was also upset that I didn't answer my phone ( - which I'm guessing he didn't think through since we were on a bike). I guess I can't blame him, I'd be a 'little' honked too if my girlfriend took off with some guy I didn't know and was gone for most of the day. But, I don't know that I would have called his cell phone either . I'm no home wrecker, but who am I to argue with a woman (I know better than that - especially on important matters like this). Anyways, I had a TERRIFIC day, a FANTASTIC ride, and my friend was REALLY excited about the ride too and can't wait to go again. So, overall it has been a great day. I always love when I can share my joy of motorcycling with others that also appreciate and enjoy it, and that's all that happened today. :Venture: Hope everyone else had a great day too!!
  20. Not quite Venture related but big motorcycle news. It has been all over the News here in Milwaukee the home of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, that they are considering closing all of their plants and leaving 1400+ Wisconsin workers without a job. In the paper today it said that they went from a record $1+billion profit in 2006 to a $75million loss last year, and this year looks worse. It may just be the "usual" union breaking tactic of threatening to close the plants and leave town if they do not get major wage concessions and/or tax incentives. We shall see what happens in the near future.
  21. i just bought a few weeks ago, an 88 white royal and i just love it. i have a white 04 2nd gen that i thought needed some company in the garage. i really havent driven the 04 since i bought the 88. now i know what you 1st gen guys are talking about, but anyway before i start a fight here is what i need some help with. i was riding last weekend with a strong head wind i was was going 70-75 and the temp gauge started bouncing down, got out of the head wind did not do it again. on monday it would do it at 50-60 and quit working, but, in town or at a stoplight, it would work fine. today it wont work until i am almost stopped, if i get on the front brakes hard to stop it will work but as soon as i take off it will quit.i stopped in a parking lot pushed down hard on the front end and it worked but as soon as the shocks rebouned it quit. will my cooling fan still work in town if the gauge doesnt work? what i really want to know is in simple laymans terms where should i start looking for the loose wire. i dont want to take it to the stealer and pay for some kids education on a bike that he has never worked on. i sure someone on here can point me in the right direction, but, i dont want to start really tearing up everything on the bike.right now everything else works flawlessly, the air ride, cruse control,cb,radio, and i dont want to create more problems for myself, or if somebody knows a good mechanic that they could recommend i live about 1 hour south of mpls. mn. thanks
  22. I had a lengthy chat with our good friend Eck on Monday evening. He has not been on the Forum recently because he and Konnie are still in the process of moving and getting things like the phone and cable hooked up. Everything seems to be going well with the job and their new town. I just thought I would let everyone know he is doing well, is glad to be back at work, and that we should be able to welcome him back any day now... TERRY
  23. Well the venture that i have on my profile was mine then it wasnt then it was and well finally my friend and I made the deal today and I finally have title in hand... so it is mine all mine... Starting tomorrow I am gonna get it ready for the road. I am needing some tires but I have to be honest I need some inexpesnvie ones. I am looking at dunlop d404 42 bucks for the back, brand new, and about 60 bucks for the front one.. is that a good sub 100 dollar tire or does anyone else have any ideals? I did get my mirrors in the trade and I cant wait to ride this thing. I rode the 700 nighthawk home today from terre haute to evansville, in and it is a nice little around town bike but honestly I feel cramped on it. I am not a real big guy but I do like to stretch.. Now I guess I gotta get a subscription on here so I can keep talking and getting good feedback from the really awesome forum...:smile5:
  24. I have searched on here and could not find information on the bulb type and location for the overdrive light. Mine has gone out and I assume I must split the fairing but don't want to split it and then run all over town looking for a bulb. Can anyone tell me what bulb type is used for the dash lights. Thanks, Jim
  25. Had the most amazing thunder and hail storm here in Perth, Western Australia. 203million in damage to cars and homes. Hail stones as big as golf balls on the north side of town, where the storm hit worst. Some of the damage to cars was unbelievable!! We had no power for a few days, and my daughters' was out for longer.:doh:Part of our national park in town slid down into apartments at the base! They say it was the worst for over 50 years.....hope that we don't get any more.
