I finally made it to Minnesota and have to say that I would be just fine going back home now. They don't know that winter is OVER. Got to the airport yesterday and found that my flight was not just delayed, but canceled. Ended up going back home and got a flight out at 6:30 this morning. Made it to our office in Cannon Falls around 10:30 this morning. Wish I had time to visit with Mr. Owl and Juggler and others in the area but my trips here are usually all business. If there are any members right near Cannon Falls I would be happy to meet for dinner or whatever one evening. Heading back home on Friday.

After months of planning I went to Big Bend this past weekend. It was supposed to be 4 days of riding and sightseeing. The first night we stayed at the Marathon Hotel. Nice place and great courtyard to have a gathering after a ride. We at at the OASIS CAFE down the street. We left the next morning to end up in Terlingua. At about 4 in the afternoon I began to get indigestion. We ate supper at the Starlight Theatre and Cafe. By 4:30 that next morning 2 of us were visited by Montezuma and his revenge!! It was ugly. Spent the night in the bathroom on the john with a trash can in front of me. So weak the next morning that I went straight to Ft. Davis and checked in early. By 10am a third in our group was visited. He made it in by noon. We spent all of Saturday in our rooms and missed the stargazing and all the riding.. On Sunday we left at different times (no sightseeing). I checked out at noon and started home. I planned my trip home to possibly take 2 days. The others started at 9am. I got in at 7pm and almost fell off the bike. Still sick as a dog and will lose tomorrow at work as well. THE ONLY FOOD IN COMMON TO THE 3 THAT GOT SICK WAS THE CHICKEN-FRIED STEAK AT THE OASIS IN MARATHON. The other 4 people were ok. It was worse than simple food poisoning. I drank almost 4 gallons of water between Sat. in the AM and Sunday night. It all went out the wrong way. I won't go into more details. Just want to warn people that the OASIS CAFE is now off limits for me! It is a small hole in the wall place. We all at at the Starlight-different foods and common appetizers. Nothing in common between the 3 there. Enough for now, going to go drink more water and eat a couple pieces of bread. JB

well i come to you with a very heavy heart this morning. Last night at around 6:00pm i was traveling west bound on hwy 11 towards Delavan Wi. As i rounded a blind corner at approximatly 50 mph not 50 ft. in front of me there was a disabled vehicle with many spectators in the middle of the road. No time to react and ice covered road shoulders, about the only thing i could do was try to execute a controled slide to not hit anyone or anything. As i hit the hard cold ground it seems only to apparent that this is not going to end well. As i slide across the pavement for what seems like an eternity my only thoughts are of my poor beloved first gen that i had spent every spare moment perfecting. The bike and i finally come to a stop and now everyones focus turns to me, worried only about my bike i tell everyone i am ok. As i go to pick up the bike i realize maybe i am not doing so well as my shoulder lets out a loud pop, still not willing to let the bike lay in it's current state i ask for help getting it on the stand. By now the pain is really starting to set in, i call a friend who brought a flat bed for the bike. for me it was a nice ambulance ride to Mercy hospital. I got out of the hospital this morning around 6:00. As you can see by my writing this my thoughts are still of my bike. Oh ya by the way i have a broken collar bone and a dis-located hip, amazing what addrenaline will do for ya. As far as the bike goes upon meager inspection, the right side fairing is gone, windshield, rivco air horns, lower fairing, mirror,cb,,class, brake lever, trunk lid only, right saddle bag complete, i'm sure there will be more. I will get my son to get some pics up for you asap. The worse part about this is it is so hard to get good quality parts for these bikes now, i will heal but my bike? Also it was running great finally and was so beautiful. Thanks for listening. kurt827.

We decided, rather impulsively, to make a weekend run from Dallas to Fredericksburg, Tx. tomorrow. Was wondering if any members might have suggestions for rides, good restaurants, and/or bars. I have never been there, but a co-worker has given me a few ideas. Since we are leaving Sat. morning and won't take a computer, any thoughts on Friday night would be appreciated. Also, if anyone is in that area, maybe we could get together. We are staying overnight at the Hog Stop Inn (one of those suggestions).

One of the good things about living close to the international date line is most days here in Australia, it's tomorrow for those of you in the States. We get Santa before you at Christmas time, the easter bunny becomes road-kill here first etc etc. So - let me be the first to wish those of you who still believe in love and all the magic it brings - - (especially YamaMama and Mini-Muffin) HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY My pillion-in-a-million's half day at work today whilst I have the day off. Nothing mentioned about Valentine's Day at all this morning. I'm just waiting until she gets home this afternoon. I dropped in to a florist shop yesterday and arranged for a dozen tulips to be delivered to her at work this morning. (I'm smooth!)

Yesterday morning we left real early to head up to Jrichards and Patricia's to pick up a '92 Venture. On the way back we met up with riderduke and his wife, daughter, and sister-in-law. Got home somewhere around 12:30 or 1:00 am this morning. We ran into one of those lovely slow downs on I95 for no apparent reason then someone somewhere hit their brakes, that took us till 9pm to get off of. Finally got passed that and tried making up some time on 295. Unfortunately couldn't make up any time on 460 way too many cops out on that stretch. Got to NC going thru suffolk and found fog. But we finally got home. Saw some of them nice furry four legged critters, don't like them in the fog. Anyway here's a pic of the new addition to the muffin house. Margaret

Has anyone used Rain-X anti-fog? I have a Clearview shield and I can deal with the rain but when I hit those pockets of warm air in the morning and the whole thing fogs up I just can't see through it.

For all the problems I've had with the moneypit, I can finally say persistance does pay. Left Oak Ridge at about 7am friday morning, with the thought that this trip will make or break her. My brother and I headed for hinesville Ga to see my son. He was on my goldwing, and I on the moneypit. The first thing we hit was the dragon, as he had never been across it before. We stayed on us129 all the way to athens Ga. from there ran ga15 down to wrightsville, then ga57 to glennville, then ga 196 to hinesville. the only bad part of the whole ride was low flying clouds on the dragon made the road wet, and no chance for pics. Remember they were racin in atlanta this weekend, so didn't want to get near there. Came back thru atlanta yesterday as he had to work this morning. 450 miles at 80 plus. Neither old bike missed a beat, I wasnt worried about the wing, but was a little apprehensive about the vr. Anyhow, 954 miles over the weekend, and both performed really well. I want to thank all the guys on this site for their advice. without you, this was never possible. And by the way, I made this trip after having my appendix out 2 weeks ago.:thumbsup2::thumbsup2:

when it rains it pours, 4 bikers killed on Long Island last weekend......bunch more hurt......... get to work this morning and find we had 2 bike accidents this morning, one looks like the guy hit a deer, one of our officers found him on the side of the road (under the bike)..no idea how long he'd been there, no deer found but they found hair on the front of the bike. Local guy, I kinda knew him, did the tile work in his kitchen a few years ago. Other one hit a deer about 6 this AM, not hurt too bad but the bike is messed up. Another local, don't know if I know him or not yet, didn't get his name. These darn deer are getting tough man...............

The wife and I haven't been able to do much riding this year due to family problems. But we did get to do two, two day jaunts. The first one was down to Pickerington, Ohio to the AMA museum and the second one to Hersey, Pa. to the Hersey museum. On the first one when we stopped for the night at about 4:00 P.M. we went to two motels that had hardly any cars in their lots and were told that they were full. No problem we just went up the road to another one and stayed. The next morning we were up and riding at 7:30 in the morning. I made sure the next morning to look to see if the other motels that we had stopped at to get a room were indeed full. NOT! I thought oh well their loss and let it go. The next two day jaunt to Hersey, Pa. we encountered the same "full up" bull. What gives? Has anyone else encountered this bigotry against motorcycles? We have ridden in a lot of western states and have never come up against this issue. Is this just a east of the Mississippi hospitality?

Tomorrow morning, Ron and I are heading for Evansville, Indiana. It will be a bit nippy in the morning, but it is supposed to warm up in the 70's. We may get to meet a certain VR member if things work out ok. I will fill you in when we return Monday evening. Peggy

I just realized that David Idle/ BigTruck here on the forum was killed in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday morning. Not sure where he was headed but a 17 year kid on his way to school pulled out in front of him at a very bad intersection. I wasn't sure it was him until this morning. I will look up the link to the newspaper report later when I get time. Please think of his family, he was only 50 years old. Here is the link: http://www.nwherald.com/articles/2007/10/04/news/local/doc4704ad6a1604c796874025.txt Jerry

My wife, Beth (nanaof4) had her rotator cuff surgery yesterday. The doc said he got a good strong repair and the socket looked good. Had to grind off one spur. She is hurting this morning but should heal good. Will be glad when she can ride again.
