  1. my mother inlaw bought two miracle ears at sears. they were $7200.00 and on sale she got them for $5200.00 well she never wore them cuz she could'nt figure out how to put them in. last month she passed away and i got the hearing aids. they are brand new, and they fit in my ears perfect. i could not hear very good with them so i went to sears and got a free hearing test. then the doctor cleaned my ears and plugged the aids into a computer and downloaded the results of my test and reprogramed the volume and frequency. it was really amazing. they are the kind that go in your ear and you can hardly see them. my right ear is really bad . i can hear great now , but only wear them to watch tv so i don't blast linda out of the house. the total cost of reworking them was $280.00. such a deal. i think the cost of hearing aids is rediculous. huh, is alot cheaper. bill
  2. just got back from the bass pro meet and eat, and i do mean eat. met midnight venture and his wife for the first time and they are very nice folks. got alllanh out in the open and met his new lady friend he did well ,very nice lady. dale brought cindy and haylie and i must say cindy was a good girl and did'nt get in any trouble at all. dooder and doodette were there and i offered to do free surgery on dooders hip. told him i had a vice grips and hack saw. seriously i hope his surgery goes well. it was a great day and i hope everyone enjoyed it as much as linda and i did. thanks to all that came for a very enjoyable day. bill
  3. this is very sad news. we will be praying for his family. bill
  4. in harleys defense, i was at a harley showroom last week and they had so many models to choose from of which some i liked and some i did'nt like. it seems like they had a style for everyone. the quality and finish was impecable. the paint jobs and chrome were show quality. i just can't get past the archaic engineering, although they have come a long way in that area. nothing wrong with the v-twin if thats what you like. but lets see some watercooling, overhead cams, 4 valves per cyl., a unit construction engine, and a shaft drive. as expensive as the harley is these should all be standard. get rid of the roller bearing lower end on the motor and go to a high pressure lube system and plain bearings. roller bearings are nice but don't have the longgevity of plain bearings do to corrosion and pitting. i have alot of experience with harley lower ends. rebuilt a few in my day. the price does'nt. seem as out of line as it once did. the bike does have that hand built look and finish. they are a work of visual art. my wing listed for over $20,000, and when you think about it i can almost by 2 cars for that. i think most all bike prices are getting over the top. just my 2 cents. bill
  5. well, i have just about throwed all the crap at this old body that it can take so i am going back into semi retirement. i retired in 1994 and went to work for one of my good friends to help him out and pay for all my toys. ain't paid for the toys yet but just can't hook it like i once did. the boss don't know it yet but i'm going to start taking a day off here and there. mostly here. i'm going to start with this sunday night. besides that i done used up all my vacation for this year. :clap2:
  6. well i got my teddy bears for the run with the bears for st. jude. they were so neat and on an after christmas cloes out. i bought all 3 of them that were left. one for my sweetie and 2 for st. jude. i am good to go. can't wait. bill
  7. oh heck cindy, jump in with both feet. you know your dying to.
  8. hey stoutman how you been? i remember the recycled oil i used in my 56 chevy cuz it used it as fast as i put it in. no telling what all was in that, probably paint thinner, rear end lube, and anti freeze. a real bargain at 25 cents a qt. we should worry about the oil in our cars like we do in our bikes. lol. bill
  9. years ago before we got totally dependent on other countries for oil, the best base oil came from pennsylvania. it was a parrafin base oil. all the foreign oil was asphalt base. quaker state and pennzoil was the best oil you could buy. i used them exclusively in everything. now they would be considered very dated compared to all the new technology. the oil controversy was in full swing back then. the prettier the can and the better the marketing the better the oil was. they even dyed royal triton purple. it was so pretty it had to be the best. almost had me hooked but i fell for the paraffin base oil is best hype. now we have all the latest high tech hype going on. i don't honestly know what the best oil is, and i doubt if anyone else knows either. i just got to go with what works for me and choose from all the scientific data that is put out there for me to try to decipher. oil once was the best kept secret in the world. now the computer age has helped to allow us to understand a little more about the chemistry of it. we can argue forever about oil just like politics and religion. but you will never convince me that i'm not using the best oil made and i don't think i have a chance of a snow ball in hell of convincing anyone else theirs is the worst.
  10. my wife uses windex.
  11. just voted, hope they win. bill
  12. i sense another oil controvesy in the making. think i will sideline on this one. don i do know for a fact that mobil1 uses pao in there oil. i think thats what supersyn is in their advertising. just not sure if it is 100% or not. i have been trying to find out from them but they are vague on any direct info they put out. if you can find that info let me know. the reason why castrol won the lawsuit, is because the grade 111 base oil castrol was using was found to meet the same criteria as a true synthetic by the sae. i don't agree with the decision cuz it is'nt truly man made. of course one could say neither is a real synthetic. it is made up of natural chemicals. the big advantage in using pao's is temperature does'nt affect viscosity like dino base oil and they don't need to add polymers to maintain a viscosity index. i figure amsoil is probably good oil, but i have always had good luck with mobil1 and have had alot of engines apart after using it. the wear patterns looked perfect so i can't argue with success. not to mention it did'nt get to be the no.1 synthetic by being crappy oil. i know you and i don't agree on the energy conserving issue, which i understand . the three main reasons i use the energy conserving oils is 1) the convenience of the 5qt. container, 2) better gas mileage, 3)because of the moly content. it is one of the best anti wear additives there is available for oil. clutch slippage may be a problem for some but i have never had a problem with it. if i did, i would rather replace the clutch and save wear on the expensive internal engine parts. i think mobil1 has less than 200 ppm which is a very small amount. but it is enough to eliminate alot of wear. when you get down to it any premium oil of the right viscosity, using sensible oil & filter change intervals will take these bikes over 100,000 miles. it's all in what buys us piece of mind. just think of the crap we once put in our machines years ago and we thought it was the best . someday the oil we use now will be junk compared to the new tech of the future. bill
  13. i use the supertech 7317 filter in my wing, v-star and truck made by champion filters, almost the same as the mobil1 filter. i use supertech 5w-30 full synthetic in my truck, and mobil1 10w-30 extended performance in my wing, v-star, zx-14, and majesty scooter. never replaced a clutch or had one slip in my life. banged a few shifts today on my v-star, and wing just to make sure i was'nt missing something rock solid clutch engagement to 100 plus mph. i really like the make up and improved additive package in the new extended performance mobil1. it also has 50% more pao base stock than regular mobil1. the only thing that concerns me about the energy conserving mobil1 is the reduced amount of zddp. which helps to prevent metal to metal contact. it still has 800ppm which is only down by about 300 ppm. the moledinum disulfide more than makes up for it as it coats the metal parts with very smooth platelets. check it all out on www.bobtheoilguy.com bill
  14. thats great looking forward to saturday. looks like it will be a good turnout. bill
  15. buddy, a bit of advice from an expert in this field. we can only say things like that behind their back. like at a bar or the pool hall. never say it in front of them if you want to eat a good meal or sleep in a nice warm bed. take it from one who knows.
  16. i saw that. cindy maybe we need a dunking tank at the 09 rally. he would be a good one for the job. bill :rotf::rotfl::rotf:
  17. bump:2133:
  18. i use mobil1 10w-30 automotive energy conserving in all my bikes, lawn mower ,and aircomperssor. used it for years no problems. recently switched to the extended service 10w-30 mobil1. i get it in 5 qt. containers at wally world. never had a clutch problem and i don't think there is a better oil made. bill
  19. ya a guy can't get away with nothin around here.
  20. i agree, amsoil buys their base stock pao from exxon mobil. i just don't like their sales technic. to much like fuller brush and amway. i would'nt think mobil lacks on the latest and best oil technology. mobil1 for me.
