Help I'm Self taught on computers
SilvrT replied to Donde's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
I would definately go to W7 instead of Vista Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, FireFox, Opera, Maxthon .... they all have their respective "good and bad" ... personally I have been using Maxthon for appx 10 yrs. I've tested all the others and have not seen anything that entices me to change. This will probably become your own decision ~after~ you have tried some of them out. -
WHY do you want to know and WHEN ?

A few years back when I was self-employed in the computer biz, one of my clients was a wood mfg shop that built pre-fab buildings. They had 5 PC's in the shop running various things .... talk about DIRTY and DUSTY!!!... yet those PC's never overheated.... go figgure.

WOW! ... I had no idea so many of y'all have this. I guess I've had it for 10 or 15 years but it would only be noticeable once in a while...until lately. For the past couple weeks it seems to be constant. I've been trying to just ignore it but there have been the odd times when I just can't ... kinda drives me crazy (as if I ain't already there) ... I have noticed tho that if I tend to dwell on it...it certainly seems to get louder...that's when I start looking for distractions.

but.... but.... that doesn't make sense .... the only time I don't have "ringing in the ear" is when I'm riding the scoot .... then it's called "WHINING" ... so, not the same thing!

Tinnitus (or "ringing in the ears") is sound or noise that no one but the person with the condition can hear. The noise can be constant or come in short bursts, lasting for long periods of time or just briefly. The sound can be loud or soft, can change in pitch and can be heard in either one or both ears. Each person who has tinnitus can probably describe it in a different way. Doctors estimate that over 50 million people in the United States suffer from some type of tinnitus and about one-quarter of them are uncomfortable enough to look for relief. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyone here suffer from this? What have you done about it?

I didn't read all the posts on this but.... an FAQ is an awesome idea. What would also be awesome is that if each FAQ item can be hyperlinked to wherever the answer(s) are...that way a person could just click on the item and be taken directly to the pertinent info. (did someone already mention this?)

Not all CPU's will have a fan ... many will only be cooled by a large heat sink. If the heat sink is clogged with dust, it won't be as efficient and cause the CPU to overheat. All systems will have a fan in the power supply. That fan is oftentimes very quiet so you have to look at it to see if it's spinning...hold a kleenex near the back and see if air movement is coming out. When you shut the PC down and let it cool off, then it allowed itself to boot normally. The system probably has a built-in diagnostic for CPU heat and won't allow the PC to boot properly if it's too hot.

If you had put a "buffing wheel" on the back, you'd have polished the floor and she would have loved ya for it ... think next time.

I don't care at all for the Yamaha passing lamps ... to me they just don't take on a "natural" look ... not really sure what does. What I installed looks a whole lot better IMHO. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41827]New Lights - VentureRider.Org[/ame] Maybe a set of lights "frenched" into the fairing ... one on each side of the headlight would look good... similar to what's on the new Kaw Voyager.

I looked at one of those but just didn't feel comfortable with the stability of it...especially since it's only support is on one side. I got one of those "Sears / Harbour Freight" style jacks and CarbonOne's adapter... works great for the 2nd gen. Never really needed anything for my 1st gen's due to the centre stand.

I think that would be a cool thing to do but I wouldn't want to do it on some of the mountain roads around here.... too much road patching, bumps, potholes, and snakes.

Most of my school years were in central Saskatchewan and Northern Ontario ... Cochrane/Timmins area, Sudbury, etc. Never had such a thing as closing a school for a "snow day" ... I think people have become "wusses" over the years. I used to play hockey on an outdoor rink in minus 40 F when I was 10 yrs old and before we could play, we had to clear the rink of a foot of snow from the night before...most of which had drifted onto the rink. We didn't even have a shack to warm up in. I honestly don't know how I could have done that...but we all did.
