  1. Pick: The diamond R pegs are pretty and work well as long as your passenger is of the smaller variety. Bev is 6 ft and tried those but didnt really like to ride with her knees in her chin. After 2 years of trying to find aftermarket pegs she gently proded me into making her some. Here is the post. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16960
  2. Just installed the same one on my new venture.. Wires are easy right behind the licence plate and you wont notice the wire comming up behind the bar..When i hooked it up according to signals directions all the lights were on for tail lights. I prefer to only have the three leds on for running and all lighting up for brake. just reverse the wires.
  3. At GB's suggestion I got the edsets for Bev and myself. The chatter box sets i was using was working just fine but i sure did notice a big diffference in the Edsets. The base is so much bettter. The chatter box is a bit tinny but was solved with use of earplugs. The price is a big difference. Chatterbox was 69 and these are about 200. You can hear the difference on Edsets website. He has a pretty good demo.
  4. Developed this problem when I installed my air horn. The forum here said it was probably a ground problem. I think it was because I disconected all of the conections in under the front faring and make sure it was tight. Noise went away for a while but did come back. I just didnt take the time to look for it again. Wondering if my new bike will do the same. Just finished the air horn today
  5. had the same problem. Solved by taking a peice of wood a little thicker than the Disk and tapering it slightly then tapping it between the new pads to spread them .. slipping the caliper on the disc and sliding the stick out. worked!
  6. You know, i have never seen as many deer in the road as when Bev and I took the trip to canada. I don't have deer whistles but I found that if I crank up Tina Turner really loud on the speakers, the deer just stand and stare. The human dears do too.
  7. Progressive has been really helpful with our accident. they were ready to write me a check for $14500 a few days after the accident but the same bike just cost me $16900 with the accessories. Yes, my old 07 did have 30k miles on it but I wasnt out of pocket $2400 with it . I told my adjuster I wont settle for that since its not my fault and this other driver pretty much screwed up our life for a while. Like eddyg, our medical expenses are building fast and all the co-pays are out of pocket. I havent even heard from the other drivers insurance company so we have finally decided a month after the accident to get a lawyer. The lawyer is the last thing I wanted to do. Got an appt thursday. Nothing is ever as it seems.
  8. Well, Bev and I can sure understand where you are right now eddyg. Deer actually scare me more than cars! At least with a car you may have some time to slow a bit before impact.. Those furry things just appear! With all things you have to meausure the risk verses the reward. To me the reward of riding on a country road with my wife on back of the bike is much more reward than the risk. I did think about getting a full face helmet for a short bit though but just cant seem to make the switch. Glad you survived this one! (ill trade you a bum right arm for your left?)
  9. If your talking the clear connectors thats your carb heat power and it may come in handy if you ever need to run heated vests and grips. I put a switch inline as per the suggestion of the fourm here and it solved my over amp draw of running everything at once.
  10. I know i am not politically correct or even close to being enviromentally correct (dont you dare talk to me about the greenhouse warming B.S) :stirthepot:but I hope I never need a "reason" for hopping on my scoot with my wife on a warm sunny day and just enjoying the ride. Im afraid oil prices in this country will get like those uk prices soon and stop a lot of this enjoyment for folks. If the middle east can sellgasfor 25 cents a gallon the usa should be able to do it for $1.50 a gallon.. PUNCH THE DAMN HOLES IN ALASKA! then we have some time to think about alternative sorces. ok tree huggers have at me!
  11. The 07 venture i just picked up came with 404's. I was really happy it wasnt bridgestones until i heard here that these may not be any better.. I have been using avons on my last bikes and love them. You would think a tire manufacture would use better tires for oem bikes because even though im sure Bridgestone makes some good tires I would never use them because of my experience with the tires that came on the bike. This may be the same story on the dunlops if i only get 3500miles. avons calling
  12. Brand new 07 blue Venture is sitting in my garage today! Found it in a town about 150 miles from us and since I can't really ride it yet our good friends Greg and Sandy when with us and Greg rode it back in temps of 100+. I still owe you that cold beer Greg! It was one of 2 blue and 3 black that the dealer bought at the yamaha auction. Paid a lot less for it then I did a year ago for my old one ($15,800 otd but remember this is California). Anyway, hopes to be on it for the Star b que in Reno the beginning of june. I've been spending a lot of time ordering all the goodies again for it just to bring it back to what we had.
  13. I was very disapointed with the zumo when i first cranked it up but found shortly it has a volume of its own. I have it set for 100% and i only use the rsv volume now to adjust everything. works good.
  14. I guess Bev and I are just about to get into this but it may be too late to let you know what happened. Its been 3 weeks since we were hit and i havent heard a thing from the drivers ins company. Im buying my new Venture out of pocket and I have paid for a bunch of medical so far. Even though i didnt want to at first im beginning to think about handing it over to a lawyer myself.
  15. ok i understand you now but since the only person id answer the cell phone for in the first place is sitting behind me i doubt that ill ever do the bluetooth thing. Anyone else wants to call me can just buzz and ill catch you at the next fuel stop.
  16. Not sure what you meant by this but I use the mic mute switch and also a zumo 550
  17. Yep, I got one for both Bev and I but since she wears a full face helmet its only a bit quieter when she turns hers off. My helmet is open so it is a huge difference. When we have the music on speakers she mentioned she can hear it much clearer when my mike is off. All this does is shut off the mic so I can still hear her when mine is off. If i wish to respond i have reach to the button on the tank to push it on. I can do this without even looking. We leave them on when we are on slow roads and may need to chatter about things. The hard wired mike mute available may be a bit neater application but these were cheap and fast. BTW these are not PTT they are on-off buttons. air rider has both kinds
  18. i saw the mic mutes from air rider on a venture at the star b que last month and got some. i only got to use them for a couple days before i totalled my bike but i noticed a big difference in the wind noise since i wear a 3/4 helmet. these little buttons are just inline on your cords and are not the ppt buttons they also sell. they are either on or off. They are cheap ($36 each) and easy to install. The button worked well in the cord holder on my tank with the rest burried under the plastic cover. http://www.airrider.com/store/product.php?id=506
  19. I dont think i have seen anyone wearing the silicone wax type of plug. Bev and I have started using these now and really like them. Its just a disc of putty you place on the outer part of your ear, not inside the canal. They are really comfy and shut out noise better then any of the foam we tried. Not really resuasable but i stick them on my backrest at stops like the gum on the bedpost and use them for the entire day. sometimes two.
  20. Thanks guys.. Bev and i appreciate all the caring. Its really hard to type with my left hand so i may make this short. Bev woke up this morning with a swollen knee so off to the hospital we went again and we learned she broke her knee( not the cap but a bone under it). She has been through so much crap in her life i knew she was tuff but walking on a broken knee is more than I could do!. It was too good to be true that she walked away unhurt i guess. Anyway i didnt find anything new with me besides this pesky shoulder. After 40 years of riding and over at least 70000 miles we knew this could catch us eventually and it did. We have discussed it and were ready to accept it. I hated to ruin my record though. I let my guard down and it caught me. The driver faked me out by puling out a few feet from the stop sign and stopping again leading me into beliving she saw me.. then she gunned it and i had no place to go but into her front wheel.. When it was clear to me i was going to hit her i thought i had slowed down enough that it was just going to be a bump.. Wrong!!!.. i could not believe the force of the impact and i know it was less than 30. Never experencing a wreck in my life it I found the dynamics kinda interesting but something i never want to experience again! It was the slow motion thing others have said on this forum. I remerber ever millisec of the crash. After knowing bev was going to be ok and the driver of the car wasn't hurt,, the sadist thing was watching my beautiful bike laying on its side bleeding its green lifefliuds down the road. All i want now is another venture and us fixed in time for Reno.. Bev is ready to ride again! I love her for that cause i think many would call it quits after this experience. Just remember THEY NEVER SEE YOU! NEVER! thanks again friends.. Jack and Bev
  21. I dont know if its just my luck but i have over 30000 miles on my zumo 550 now. still working great and its on all the time cause I use it for music too. My friend has one that has quite working twice now and is new but thinks its fixed now.
  22. and that is one winter every how many years?
  23. I think I am well qualified at droping my Venture but never have when it was moving. It was always at a total stop. Now i do carry a lot of weight on the back when im loaded with luggage( i bet i have 80-100lbs in just the bags) plus a passenger and there are times when taking off from a turn I could see how it would go right over if the engine died or i hit the brake but i don't!. I found long ago from my dirt ridin days that a little twist on the throttle will pick up the heaviest bike fast. Throttle, not brakes, has got me out of problems many times!
  24. Same way as buddy rich and the big advantage i find is when i turn off the bike the zumo 550 asks if i want to continue on batt power. If you ignore it it turns itself off in a few secs. It wouldnt matter when I stop for lunch cause i pop it out of the mount but when I park the bike in my garage I leave it in.
