  1. One of the screw holes used for securing the top cover on my clutch master cylinder is stripped. The screw is fine. Its the hole that is boogered. I currently have a slightly longer screw in there which did bite but I am not happy with it. Has anyone tried repairing the hole with a heli-coil or Does any one have a master cylinder that I can buy? Thanks, Ray
  2. Morning guys, You may want to try adding the pasted code right in the "Edit Signature" window and not the "add picture" window. It worked for me.
  3. Looking good Andy!
  4. Using Mike's pictures as a guide, there are two detents 180 degrees apart. The valve does rotate 360 degrees. Mine was so gunked up that I couldn't feel the detents either. I used Skydoc's kit to get mine back in order. Maybe the thermostat has been removed or is stuck open. The only way to know for sure is to remove it. If you are going to do that, you might as well just have a new thermostat and O-rings ready.
  5. Speaking of night ships, I will derail my own thread here. My son and I were at the Efest in Champaign last week. Here is his winning flight with lights. The landing rocked! [ame] [/ame]
  6. I agree. He said that his windshield and face shield kept getting blocked by snow. Jeff, you probably know him. He is a big rum ball fan.
  7. My friend's desire to ride sometimes outweighs his common sense. We always argue over who has the best weather source. My weather man predicted this. His called for no precip. At least he made it home safely. http://www.raymondstacy.com/davebike.jpg
  8. Awesome! That has always been my favorite color combination.
  9. My wife found a device that transmits a signal to a receiver when it receives two quick pulses. In my case, two quick blips from the high beam switch. The receiver in the garage then activates the door opener. Its way better than me fumbling with the garage door transmitter while coming down the driveway. No. It only transmits after two quick pulses and then only for a few seconds. Just long enough to activate the receiver.
  10. The maintenance is done! Thanks guys for all of the help. My Rick Butler seat came in today to round off the package. I replaced all of the broken plastic. (no more tie-wraps) Changed the starter/thermostat/o-rings/antifreeze Balanced the carbs Repaired the CLASS system Changed the oil and filter Installed a remote garage door opener (works off of the high beam switch) Installed brake activated flasher LEDs in the front and rear lights (This may get me in trouble) I may still do Progressive springs. (probably will) Bring on the nice weather!
  11. It does have to come out. For me, since I was taking all of this stuff out, it was also a good time to change the thermostat and O-rings. I think there were 4 O-rings. One on the housing, 2 on the plastic elbow, 1 on the bypass valve. (See Skydoc_17 for the bypass valve).

Actually this is a better shot of the collection. Most of them are in there. The airplanes are in another part of the shop.
  14. I fixed mine with the second gen starter. Bought it on Ebay for $45.00. All of the other suggestions are good and I am sure that the ground wire is a great and free fix but in my opinion, the 2nd gen starter is the ultimate fix. If I am going to remove all of the necessary parts to get to that starter, then I want the improved 4 brush starter as a replacement.

    Im in. Already loaded up!
  16. I have a budddy that just bought a new ST1300. It just kills him when I tell him that if both bikes were sitting side by side I would take my old VR over his toy.
  17. Completely off topic but I also have noticed that the topic suggestions when starting a new thread tend to be much better than the topics that the search function finds. I wonder why they are different.
  18. I love living out in the woods. Being able to make water whenever the need arises... According to my wife, the world is my toilet!
  19. I would tend to agree with you Andy. I have had my battery so low that the engine would barely turn over and the clock didn't reset. In fact I recently had my battery disconnected for about 15 minutes and the clock didn't reset.
  20. Thanks Jeff. Used pumps on Ebay for my 86 are hitting around $100. I think I would rather use the Facet pump if and when the time comes. Ray
  21. Jeff, How would the 40171 work on my Gen 1 (86) VR? With all of the talk about pump failure, Im thinking that it might be nice to have one on hand. Ray
  22. That is one cool car!
  23. I don't disagree with you. I wanted to create a document that was easy to print so that I could have it laying on the garage floor as I went through the steps. With that in mind I rotated the pictures for maximum image area on the page. I thought that the screws were going to be difficult to locate. They were actually very easy to find.
  24. Earl put together an awesome thread for balancing your Gen 1 carbs. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56723&referrerid=11995 With Earl's permission, I took the thread and converted it to a PDF. I also put the pictures with the appropriate text. This gives you a document that you can easily print out and follow step by step. I was able to balance my carbs in less than 30 minutes and now that I have done it once, I'm sure that I could do it in under 20 minutes. Thanks Earl! Ray
