Does anyone have an ecopy of the 86 VR user manual?
rstacy replied to rstacy's topic in Watering Hole
Thanks guys. I just ordered the $30 (with shipping) print on demand manual. I also learned that I have a XVZ13DS. Whats the difference between my bike and the XVZ13DSC? Canada? Ray -
I'm sorry Jim. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you repair it. Ray

Thanks Jim. I'm not looking for anything in particular. I would just like to have the manual for the bike. Its a big manual. I can scan it if you let me borrow it for a few days. Ray -

Were the ear pieces difficult to install? Unless I do some cutting I don't think I have room in my helmet. Can you remove the mike and cable if you are on a short hop and don't need sound?
-
My VR is the first bike that I have ever owned that has sound and intercom capabilities. How do you go about getting sound and a mike in to your helmet? I use a 3/4 helmet and my wife is currently using a 1/2 but she may be switching to a full. I have no experience here. I can see ear buds working but what about the mike? I see that Ebay has many different types of headsets available but I dont know what is good or bad. What would you do? Ray

High Beam Indicator not working
rstacy replied to rstacy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I can tell you that when I switch from low to high, the beam of the light actually changes to a wider and higher spread. I don't have any other warnings on the dash. -
Here is what I know The bulb is good. I have 12 volts on the R/Y side The RLU isnt pulling the ground down to light the bulb. Is this a common failure of the RLU? I found an interesting thread on removing/bypassing the RLU. That idea deserves some thought. When my starter switch needed cleaning, that particular device didn't tell me that my light was out anyway!

You sound like me. A day late and always one short! LOL For now I am taking the simple path. I removed the cassette deck and installed a Radio Shack plastic project case from the bottom side of the dash. This gives me a nice recessed storage space for the ipod. I will fabricate a lid out of Plexiglas to keep everything safe and dry. I will run the ipod signal in to the line that used to be for the cassette player and add a switch to enable either the ipod or radio. For now I made an adapter that plugs in to the intercom system so that my rider and I can hear the audio in our ear buds. I haven't done anything for the microphone yet as I don't need it right now but it is on the list of things to do. My long term solution would be something like yours where the signal is transmitted to my blue tooth devices. I know that they exist today but I would prefer to not pay $400-$500 dollars for the system. Ray

Changing grips?
rstacy replied to Ponderosa's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Im confused guys. Where exactly do you shoot the air to get the grip off? -
Some of the buttons on my radio were getting little flaky. Also I was having trouble manually tuning the radio. I did some searching here and found that the buttons were pretty easy to get to. I ordered a bunch of buttons on line. They were only a few cents a piece. Taking the radio apart was a breeze and soldering in the new buttons was just as easy. Replacing all of the buttons took less than an hour. The problem was that the manual tuning and memory buttons still didn't work. I found that by tapping the handlebar mounted module, the manual tuning buttons on the radio would work. The radio scan button was gunked and worn out. I took the module apart and replaced the scan button as well as the CB tuning buttons. Nothing to it and now everything works like new!

I don't have the throttle rocker but I do have the tingle/numbness in my right hand after riding a bit. I always thought it was due to vibration in the bike that I was riding for the last 14 years. Imagine my surprise when I still had the problem with my new Venture. A friend of mine had the same problem. His numbness also appeared when mowing the lawn. He recently had surgery to correct the issue. Basically they did carpal tunnel on his hand and they moved the nerved that goes around the backside of your elbow and down to your hand. They moved it from the back side of the elbow around to the side. Now he can ride for over an hour without a problem.

The bike went back together without issue. It did take longer reassembling it. I replaced a lot of missing or incorrect hardware. I also did an oil/filter change. I'm glad that I did it. I learned a lot about the bike and now its ready for Bongobob's. Ray

Thats my second favorite toy! I went with the Dunlops. They get put on the rims later this morning. The bike should be back together tonight.

Rear wheel removal Gen 1 I need new tires for my bike. After reading many threads today on the different procedures, I came up with a process that I thought would work well for me. Basically I pulled the axle on the rear wheel, used a floor jack and removed the front wheel then finished removing the rear wheel. Everything went according to plan. I think one of the best threads that I read told me to strap the center stand. Great idea! Thanks to everyone that posts!! Ray http://www.raymondstacy.com/nowheels.jpg

I admit it. I am overwhelmed by all of this audio technology. My VR has an intercom system but I don't have the headsets. I do have bluetooth headsets for our cell phones. Does anyone make a box that will enable our two headsets to talk to each other? Music isn't important to us but it would be cool if it had music input.
