  6. A problem is only a problem if you recognise it. I know what the noise is. It is mechanical. All machines...I mean ALL will have some quirks. Get to know your machine. Then ride it like you stole it. Everything else is a bonus. Bill

  14. Yes...It did happen. #3 , the right rear cylinder float stuck. The bike had a fuel smell to it. I started,,,, tried to start it, turned over fine (once around) and locked down. I pulled the plug turned over again and it started (yes with the #3 plug removed) spewing compression and fuel throughout. I reinstalled the plug and restarted the bike. I had a distinctive engine knock. Yes long story short....I bent the #3 connecting rod. After a few adult breverages, and visiting with a couple of people I know...I pulled the oil pan, examined the mess. The rod visably bent, and the piston skirt hitting the crankshaft counterbalance. So now I took a dremmel tool and ground a grove in the crankshaft counterbalance, reassembled. The knock is not gone,,,,,so I did it again the next morning. The knock is gone, bike runs good, I have put a needle and seat in #3 carb and adjusted the float. ( I am not that good on carbs) Today I have logged 290 miles, average 37mpg so far.....Oh yea 2006 rstd I picked up this last fall had 8000 miles, has 10300 miles now(It ran 2000 miles Til the problem occurred.) 17. The adjuster is just that. Many are independant of the company they represent. call the truck insurance company direct. Request another adjuster. However, Your ins will pay under uninsured/underinsured clause and go after the truck insurance.(usually a $200 or so deductible on your policy for this) It will also pay as under colision but you will be charged for a wreck. If the truck insurance feels the tire was faulty, on installation or manufacture, the truck insurance should make you whole, then subregate the claim to whoever. All that occurs behind the scenes, all you should see is a check.
  18. Glad your daughter is allright. I just listed a 03 midnight venture in the classifieds. Very nice and clean ride. Check it out if it what you want.
  19. I have had a bit of luck using a small punch or chisel and tap an edge counterclockwise to back out the broken fastner just enough to get a plyer in it. Good luck.
  20. Everybody should know chrome is for improved safety--ie." safety chrome" This is what I tell my spouse to justify shiney accessories. Yamaha validated this with the Midnight version. We all know chrome does make anything faster. Thus the midnight is a safer and faster bike --- thus the price diffrence.
  21. Heck, with enough JB weld, bailun wire, duck tape, one of them there flaming hack saws(cutten torch) a good welder and some beers---we can make most anything fit perty good. However if it is an original Harley part, it may well fall off before you get to your final destination. nuff said.
  22. We use to simply unhook the neg side of the battery while the vehicle was running. If it died it was the charging system. If it stayed running it was the battery. I do not know if that still works of these machines ... It used to be what we did, I have not had that problem in years, It is probably not very electronics friendly.
  23. I know the timing is not right, however, check out crankyape.com. tomorrow there is a RSV with only cosmetic damage comming up in Georgetown Tx. Current bid is approx 2500. I thought about buying it, but I would be getting it to turn. This is a great deal for the right person. Hope this helps. Bill
  24. With due respect V7Goose, 03 venture. I plugged mine due to a Broken front housing (by the oil filter). Also plugged the rear. This being said---the bike had a air leak that sounded like a knock comming from the front. After plugged, it had no noticeable performance diffrence, only a much quieter more pleasurable ride. Yes I did take the easy route and plugged the system. Bill
