  1. Only the time I did it, it wasn't on the bike, it was in my little 83 Nissan. But wish I could have done it more slowly, I went a hair over 10,000 miles in 23 days. Was suppose to do around 7,000 miles, but decided to take a detour down to Florida because I was doing this tour right at the time that John Glenn went up in the space shuttle so I watched him take off and also got a chance to visit my anut and uncle in Melbourne. I'm too far up in age to try that again, staying in only three towns for 2 nights and just one nighter's the rest of the way is what wore me out, too many miles too fast.
  2. But I guess you can say I'm mostly a maverick and it gets to the point where I do just that, throw my leg over the bike and go. Too bad you were thinking about 4-Corners at that time. For the first six years after buying my bike, I was going to the 4-Corners Rally every other year but that rally is put on during Labor Day. It's about 1,100 miles one way with alot of desert in between, but once you get up there, it's a site to behold. It also has one of the best 10 train rides in America from Durango at 6,300 ft. up to Silverton at 9,300 ft., so it you get the chance to ride it when you go to 4-Corners, it's well worth it. :080402gudl_prv:on your trip and have a great safe ride. P.S. Most miles I did in one day was 630.
  3. Great, one more night person. I don't know where the count is at the moment, the last I heard, there were more than 165,000 in the PGR of which just a handful belong to this site, that's why I was interested to see how many ride in the parade's. So hopefully, we can find out if there is a few more out there, thanks.
  4. Should have started this thread in the morning, everybody is in bed now, oh well, I guess when it disappears, I'll bump it up in the morning for one more try, nite-nite.
  5. But I've got too much overhang, all the buckels that look like that are in a box somewhere around here as they cut into my beer belly; but I think you could still see it, lol. :rotf:
  6. Had no choice. 14 of us were going up to Lake Tahoe for the 4th of July weekend and got caught in a freek snow storm. We took the long way in which if we had taken the short way, 7,300ft would have been better that 10,000ft. I hope that never happens again but we all seem to make it.
  7. Got to thinking and was just wondering how many here ride in Veteran's Day Parades. Did two last year with the PGR in Pleasanton and Fresno of which Fresno's was broadcast on live TV. Had 30+ bikes in both parade's. Fresno's was a little on the wet side for 125 miles on the way there and kept quite a few away. So just trying to drum up a little conversation and it looks like rain is in the forcast again for this Sunday in Pleasanton, but at least it's a short one.
  8. Now theres only one problem to this and I'll tell you that at the end. When you gamble, you lose..........at least I do. So if you don't gamble, you win because your not losing any money which makes you ahead of the game. So all you have to do is stop buying gas and you win, this is where that problem comes in I told you about, you have to stay home all the time and you can only do that if your fully retired. Somebody told me they saw the lowest price for gas here at $2.39, I'd have to see it to believe it; it's still up around $3.00 a gallon in San Francisco.
  9. The good ol "Bad Back Club", but since I bought an inverted table where I hang upside down at around 40%, it puts my back right back into shape if I happen do put it out or it gets sore. They say thats all you need, you don't have to hang completely upside down. So if you could get one of these, it'd probably work better than doing stretch's.
  10. I know nobody wants to talk about negativity, but it's all over the country nowadays. Yes, the gas coming down is nice, but with what happened to me (and this is the second time now) is me losing my a** in the stock market which is worse than the gas. Every corner we turn nowadays is all about money. So like everybody else's dream, seems like the only way out is to hit it big gambling, or hitting the lotto etc. But everything will be all right, one or the other running for president will pull us out of this. I hope that statement didn't make anybody sick.:whistling:Just my worth.
  11. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family Peggy. I came home from vacation and saw my cat Peppy and noticed a lump on top of his head over his right eye. Took him to the vets and found out it was cancer. Tried to see if an operation would do the trick and it only got worse after that. Pretty soon, he couldn't eat or hardly walk, and that was the time to take him in. The day I had him put down, the stress was so much that my back spasumed and it was worse than it just going out. His ashes are on top of our intertainment center now as he was the first pet I'd ever had and I missed him more than you know. He was my buddy and is still greatly missed to this day as it's been several years since he's been gone now. Just put my female cat down this year after 18 years, but this was my daughters cat, and she gave her to us when she was 9 but couldn't keep her. Her divorce got her into an apartment that didn't allow pets, so we had her till her last days. Again, so sorry for your loss.
  12. I didn't know there were two members in Pahrump. But yes, he said all the right places. Even though I'm 550 miles away, been through all these places several times and it's great riding. Hope you have a safe fun trip, have relatives there and do Vegas every year.
  13. This happened at 4:30 in the morning on the way to work. It came out of the dark so fast, I didn't even have time to hit the brakes and I think that was the way to go. If I had, the car would have dove down and hit it much harder. As is, I hit it square on and the car bounced over the tire of which I kept it under control and pulled over to the side of the freeway with steam coming from under the hood. I just passed a major over-pass and was a half mile up a grade I was pulling and had to make a fast decision so I wouldn't be stuck on the freeway. The engine was still running and I immediately started to back down the grade to the over-pass I just went under and back down the oncoming on-ramp. About another 1/4 of a mile was a Shell station of which I pulled into and parked the car there to call a tow truck. I made it just in time as the car was over-heating because of losing all the anti-freeze. So the tire took out the front panel underneath the bumper, tore out the bottom of the radiator, bent the front engine mount and a few other things, was in my Datsun which the tires were just wide enough, so it didn't even hurt them, so the damages came to $1,600.00. Afterwards, I thought about hitting the tire if I were on the bike "I wouldn't be here right now". So for that morning, I guess you can say the man upstairs was watching over me and I was very lucky.
  14. at least that's the way I use to do it. I would put most of the extra change at the end of the day in a large plastic cup in my dresser. Then when it was time to go to Reno or Las Vegas, I'd put it in plastic containers like the paper wrappers that you get from the bank to wrap your coins. Put them all in a big plastic bag and go gambling with it. The only thing wrong with that now is they don't have coin slot machines any more. There are some, but you have to look for them. Always liked getting my hands dirty because the coin machines didn't take your money as fast as the electroni slot machines. The pennys just go in a large container of which the wife wraps them up and takes to our bank. Use to like coins when they were made of silver, got use to the sound they made and now it all sounds like phony money. Cracks me up when you want to leave the machine and when you press the button to get whatever money is left you haven't spent, then it has to sound like real coins are dropping, I still miss the old slots!
  15. Diddo! I mean after all, when you bring out a new bike, it's suppose to look like a Harley, that's the way everybody else does it! :rotf:
  16. What's this hi tech, I said it just doesn't fit. I bought the same helmet from the same manufacture but it doesn't look like a regular helmet any more, they had to make it look a little Bat Mandlish, and that's the reason it doesn't fit. Kind of looks like they made more room for the ears.
  17. but I just bought a new full size helmet (one) and it doesn't fit!
  18. Sort of looks like they stoled the looks of the Venture, I guess we have a good looking bike. The throttle by wire sounds interesting. But we smooth V-4 riders would probably have a hard time going over to a vibrating V-twin. They say the trunk holds two large??? helmets, but doesn't look any bigger than the Venture trunk which doesn't hold two large helmets?? Can't figure belt drive either?? I guess I'll look for now, but I think it will be just like the RSV and take a couple of years to take off if it does?????? Then there's always the cost ?
  19. I bought a 83 Venture brand new for $5,699.00 and had it for 16 1/2 years, best bike I ever owned. Hated to give it up (had 106k on it), but it was just the straight Venture, and I told myself I just wanted one more new:whistling: bike with all the bells and whistles. The 99 RSV has 95k on it now and will probably be the last bike I ever own, so I hope their right about these 2nd gens getting 200k or better before they start getting tired.
  20. but how long are those flaps good for?? I imagine that the vest getting beat up by the wind makes for some fast wear and tear. But I'm not interested in something that simple, I want something complicated and real expensive. A/C on a bike and a suit you can wear like an astronaut that you can plug the A/C into for wearing on a real hot day, real cool man!!
  21. The only word I have for that idea is "DEADLY"!
  22. I think some of you saw the post I put on here when I went to a Yamaha dealer to order a battery for my RSV. The guy starts looking through the parts book like he knows what he's doing, and then turns around to me and asked, what's a RSV??? I almost came un-glued, I said you work here and don't know what an RSV is, I think I pissed him off but we got through it. As far as rumors, I heard they are coming out with a new RSV with a 1900 cc engine with fuel injection, here's hoping:whistling:.
  23. Almost looks like the one we saw at Ft. Collins last year, good lookin ride.
  24. but "Stupid" is good!
  25. So that means I want it fixed now. I'm glad that I can do most of the work most of the time so I don't have to take it in. The worst part that I usually have is that every time I take a bike in, I almost always get it back with something else wrong of find something broken, even with the car, nobody cares..........it's not their bike or car. But I guess parts issue's are the big thing when it comes to fixin a first gen. I had mind for almost 17 yrs., and it was a bear then, I can imagine what it would be like now. The way you take care of your bike though Rick when we were at S.L.O., your the man as you take great care and pride for a great motorcycle, tell Nina hi for me and hopefully we'll get together again next year for VWV, take care.
