  1. Nice. Would have been many extra bonus points if you came home with a critter. My wife isn't permitted to visit those places unsupervised. With the latest addition of an 8 week old pit pup that was part of a litter abandoned in a cardboard box, we are at 3 dogs to go with a house full of kids. Assuming the snow that is falling right now melts tomorrow, I should be able to get this new target. Living just a few miles outside of Washington DC makes it an easy one for us. Cheers
  2. Not good... http://www.local12.com/mostpopular/story/Troopers-Release-Names-of-Bikers-Killed-in-New/O5KeiLTe8EG3nwanBF1egQ.cspx
  3. Even though it is fairly close to home, I didn't know it existed until it was set as a target for this hunt. I found it by doing a google search. Another good thing about this game, it gets you out to places that you wouldn't normally think of. I'll definitely be checking it out when it opens this spring. Cheers
  4. In honor of our latest addition to our home zoo; the next target is you, your bike and an animal shelter or animal rescue center. Cheers and good luck.
  5. Was a great day to ride. Started off in the mid 30's and made it all the way up to 50. This is a small time drag strip about 40 minutes from my place (http://www.75-80dragway.com/). Unfortunately it was closed for the season so this is a close as I could get. http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/danzoom/IMG_0123.jpg
  6. I'm usually one of those nut jobs that insists on riding the bike in any temperature provided the roads are free of snow and dry\free of ice. So it was 19 out when I left for work this morning. Jumped onto a frozen stiff seat. The mustang seat on my volusia would do this in cold temps as well, but was never more than a less comfortable ride. With the pillow seat of my RSV, it was a major pain in the a$$ in more ways than one. Not only was it not the usual comfy ride it, but it resulted in me being about an inch further from the ground than normal. Being just shy of 5'7, that extra inch really put me on my tipy toes. I hate winter.
  7. I had the exact same problem with my 02 RSV, never figured it out... But after replacing my dead rear shock the problem went away. I think I remember reading that someone else had the same problem that was also resolved with a new rear shock.. Good luck.
  8. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I've found the other posts on the site describing in detail the ignition switch and fuel pump issues. Since the bike just completely dies without even a tiny hint of a sputter, my first thoughts were something electrical. If it were being deprived of fuel, I figured it would at least cough a bit first. In my case, it feels the same as it would if I were to simply hit the kill switch, making me think something is going on that is killing spark. Therefore I'll start with the ignition switch and go from there. Thanks again for your help. I'll post a follow up when I learn more or have more questions. Cheers, Dan
  9. This has happened to me a few times during the past month... Riding along at various speeds, the bike suddenly just dies. There is never any warning, doesn't cough or anything. One second everything is cool and the next it is just not running. Everything electrical (lights, stereo etc.) still functions. After coasting to the side of the road, I can hit the starter and it turns over, but doesn't fire at all. Then I hit the starter a second or third time and it fires right up. Very weird. The bike has just shy of 80,000 miles on it. All suggestions and ideas are very much appreciated. Cheers, Dan
  10. Agree, seems we have been stuck on this one for awhile...
  11. That is me. I'm in Maryland, but am originally from Ontario. I was adopted so you never know. Easy to confuse Dano with DanOh.
  12. Do the hippo hands fit over the radio stock? Their web site lists a set "without switch pod on left side"... What the heck does that mean?
  13. Not much snow in this picture. Was an interesting ride, some fields were completely covered and on the other side of the road there was nothing... The next target is you, your bike and a city\town clock with the name of the town on it... Can't be in the town you live in.. Here are some examples... http://backseatview.wordpress.com/2011/03/08/030811-big-clocks/ Have fun.
  14. This was a hard one to get. The first sawmill we drove to today couldn't be seen from the road at all, so we had to go to plan B. This is the best shot we could get. http://www.woodeyewoodproducts.com/services.html http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/danzoom/sawmillchallenge.jpg
  15. Nice. Beat me by an hour and a half! Still was a good ride, sunny but cold. Like seeing the dusting of snow on the fields while there is still lots of nice color in the trees.
  16. People that are a few pounds overweight and eat cheeseburgers are bad..... People that ride those dangerous motorcycle things are just reckless.... It is a matter of personal choice. No one's choices are any of my business unless they directly do me harm.
  17. Bought my 02 Venture in March of this year with 50,000 miles on it and it now has about 75k. Other than normal maintenance I had to replace the rear shock and rear wheel bearings. Like everyone else has said, overall the bike really is bullet proof and is great eating up a ton of miles for rider and passenger. I look forward to many more 25K mile years on it. Good luck.
  18. I've used it for a little over a year and have come to depend on it so much that i couldn't live without it. I usually create a route in google maps, then import it into tyre to create a gpx file to be copied to my Garmin.
  19. think my 2nd gen RSV is plenty fast enough for me. For such a big, comfy bike it gets up to 100 awful quick.. The only sure thing about riding faster than everyone else is that you will be riding alone..
  20. have another look and pause it during the slow motion portion just as the truck passes the bike somewhere between 29 - 31 seconds. The white line is the center line, they are on a very narrow windy road somewhere in the UK I think...
  21. [ame=http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=172_1314706263]http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=172_1314706263[/ame] Yikes, think I would have to pull over to try and get my heart started again..
  22. I ride all year long, except for when there is snow on the roads which is usually works out a few weeks a year. So far this year i'm at 22,000 miles. Expect to end up somewhere near 28,000 by Xmass. Cheers, Dan
  23. Garmin Nuvi 855, supports downloaded routes and becomes waterproof with the help of a ziplock bag. For motorcycles, I highly recommend you get a model that supports downloading routes. Here is a link listing the basic features of all Garmin models including which support routes. http://developer.garmin.com/web-device/garmin-communicator-plugin/device-support-matrix/ Cheers, Dan

    Shirts

About a month after my purchase, the dealer I bought my RSV mailed me a hat with the bike on it in the exact same colors as a thank you for doing business with us sort of thing. It is remarkable how good a job they do.
  25. The wife and I are spending this weekend riding around that general area as well. I have a few friends that say that Smoke Hole Rd near Petersburg is as fun as the Tail of the Dragon, only better because it isn't nearly as crowed. We've ridden a lot in this area the past couple of years. As long as the road isn't dirt, you really can't go wrong. Enjoy and ride safe.
