Used to work night shift and would get stuck at one of these damn lights almost every ride home. My solution was to put the bike on the kickstand, get off, walk over to the pole and push the pedestrian cross walk button... the light would be just about turning green by the time i got back to the bike... Another option I have used many times is to make a right on the red, drive a hundred yards and make a U-turn. Lots-O-fun.

and the next group of folks would be smokers, then people that eat a McDonalds, then those that don't get enough exercise enough... then those that are merely 20 lbs over weight... Very difficult to figure out where to draw the lines.... this thread is doomed

Need a poll for second gen rear shock
DanOh replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
02 rsv 67,000 miles replacing OEM with hogan shock this weekend. -
Yikes!! In my opinion, that price is definitely way out of line. For $12 at Radio Shack I bought a couple extension cables that plug into the aux jack. I ran one under the tank, along the frame and tie wrapped an end to right side rear passenger hand rail. With the other shorter one I have a couple of options... If the wife is with me she connects her iPod touch to the passenger grab rail cable so she can be the back seat DJ. When I'm on my own I use the same shorter cable to connect my iPod directly to the aux jack, start up a play list or random and stick the iPod in my pocket.

Hagon vs Works Rear Shock
DanOh replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am in desperate need of a rear shock for my 02 RSV. The email response from Hagon said that it would be 3-5 weeks for them to order it. How soon did they say your would available? thanks -
So I was riding my 2002 RSV home from work and pushed the up arrow on the radio to change the station. Instead of tuning in to the next station the radio stock flopped forward. The two screws that are supposed to hold it to the mount must have got lose from vibration and came out. Does anyone know what size replacement screws I need? For now I've got the radio attached to the mount with tie wraps. Thanks, Dan

We have one graduating in a few weeks. I think this one will be done by the time we are able to get the pic.

Very sad. Your area has been hammered pretty good, first by the slow demise of the auto industry and then the recession. My wife is from Southgate and gets depressed whenever we are back in the area.

Good job. It is nice to be out wandering and stumble across the current target. Looks like a nice peaceful spot.

Courtesy of wifey who always has better ideas than me.... You, your bike and a decorative (not drinking) water fountain. Good luck and happy hunting. Cheers, Dan

Left work early today to enjoy a the nice weather with the wife. Here is a picture at the Monocacy National Battlefield just outside of Frederick MD. http://www.nps.gov/mono/index.htm Cheers, Dan http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/danzoom/05-06-11-002.jpg

RSV much worse in crosswinds than 1st Gen?
DanOh replied to Grisolm1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've never ridden a 1st gen and therefore can't compare. However I can confidently state that my RSV handles high winds better than any bike I have ever owned before. Note that after 30 years of riding, this is the first big touring bike I have ever owned. Your mileage may vary. Yesterday we did 340 miles at mostly 75mph riding two up through the following wind advisory... Although the wind was very noticeable, I felt comfortable the entire time. The only downside was that I got about 39 mpg when I'm normally around 44. Cheers, Dan WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * HAZARDS... WIND GUSTS OF 45 TO 50 MPH AND UP TO 55 MPH ON THE RIDGES. * TIMING... WIND GUSTS WILL INCREASE DURING THE LATE MORNING HOURS. WIND WILL SUBSIDE WITH SUNSET. * IMPACTS... POTENTIAL FOR DOWNED TREES... LARGE BRANCHES... AND POWER LINES. CROSS GUSTS AND FLYING DEBRIS MAY HINDER MOTORISTS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT WIND GUSTS GREATER THAN 45 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WIND THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT... ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION. RESIDENTS SHOULD SECURE LOOSE OBJECTS ON THEIR PROPERTY. -
Yup, that counts. I like that you are holding one of the eggs in the photo. That target didn't last long... So what's next? Cheers, Dan

The world would be dull if everyone were the same.... My two cents.... How many nights in very nice hotels can ya get for the price of one of those? If it were a decision I had to make, I would just ride the bike (much more fun) and stay in hotels etc. Heck, for that kind of money you could stay in a nice place for a week, then Fedex a Sh*t load of stuff to the next place on your itinerary and have it waiting for you to arrive. Cheers, Dan

This one is related to the season and was inspired by some of the..... I shall say interesting cause everyone's idea of beauty is different..... home lawn decoration projects I saw on my ride this past weekend. The new target is.... You and your bike in front of someone's front lawn adorned with large and numerous easter decorations (minimum of 3 items). A few of the places I rode by on Sunday must have had 10 - 20 over sized, inflated pink rabbits, easter eggs etc. Good luck and happy hunting! Dan

We did a little 240 mile cruise around with no plan in mind. Those types of rides are often the best. Here is a picture of a pizza joint in a little town (have no idea which one) in MD. Cheers, Dan http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/danzoom/04-10-11-002.jpg

I average 42-44 mpg. Fuel light comes on and then shortly afterwards have to switch to reserve between 180 - 190. After switching over I'm comfortable doing another 20 miles or so before starting to sweat.

Good job. That target was one the wife didn't want to help me get for myself. So what do you have in mind for the next target? Cheers, Dan

The new shield came today. 15 minutes to install and we were off for a test run. Purely for scientific research purposes, we ran it up to about 95 on the highway. To me it feels like I'm not getting sucked forward and have a little less wind noise. Much more importantly though, the wife is happy! No more getting knocked around by the wind. Another bonus is that I think the new shield looks way better. The stock one was just too narrow compared to how wide the fairing is and in my opinion, was the only part of the bike I didn't think looked very good. The Clearview XXL is a fair bit wider and in my opinion suits the bike much better. I can't see over it, but I couldn't see over the stock either. For those days when I want a shorter ride with the wind in my face I can always jump on the Volusia. I don't know how anyone can make due with just one bike. Here is a picture of the old one leaned up against the new to get an idea of the size difference and another picture of it on the bike. Perhaps I misunderstood her complaints... Could she have been referring to the wind I generate? I do like spicy Mexican food

No way, she is the best farkle ever. Functional and she sparkles. Getting her a comfy throne to make her butt happy is one of the major reasons I was able to convince her I needed a second motorcycle.

Hey all, Love the site, except that it steals hours away from me as I spend too much time reading through years worth of very helpful threads. I picked up my 02 RSV about three weeks ago. After 1,500 miles I'm loving it more every day. My wife loves it at least as much as I. There is just one issue I'm hoping you folks can help with. The wife isn't enjoying the wind at highway speeds. According to her, she is getting knocked around a lot worse than she does on the back of my Volusia which only has a small shield to keep the wind off my chest. So here are the details. The shield on my RSV is 17inches tall and 23 wide. She is 5'8 and weighs about 105. I'm 5'7 and weigh a bit more than I should. She enjoys the very little wind on her legs (especially in the cold weather), but gets pounded on the upper body and head. I'm thinking that the wind is being deflected over\around me and directly into her. I ride as long as it is above 20 degrees. At that temp I find my lower back getting cold which further makes me think the wind is wrapping around me. The front of my body stays comfortable. Do other folks passengers experience such a rough time with the wind? Any suggestions on how to make the spouse's ride more comfortable? Thanks Muchly, Dan.

Good job! Also, I like the color scheme of your bike; very nice indeed. So what's next? Cheers, Dan
