  1. You could also simply take out the valve and run a tube for the life of this particular tire. I had 3 nails in a back tire that was nearly new like yours. I pulled the nails, I tubed it and ran it...
  2. That thought has crossed my mind as well. I have a Venture and a Royal star in the garage. I think that if I was going to keep a second bike long term it would have to be something fun and not a cruiser type at all. Just for those times I want something very different... The Royal is being put on the market soon.
  3. www.towpacusa.com Is a voyager like trike setup. I just reinstalled one to a friends 83 Voyager 12. Not a bad package.
  4. Well I am not too far from either of you Gents. I reside just over the county border to the east of Wayne, near where 104 crosses over. I hope to catch you on the road sometime or a local M&E if it comes around.
  5. Kuryakyn Kool Kaps. Might also fit the bill. http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/4073/Kool-Kaps
  6. I didn't read all the posts, but one thing came to mind and I will just throw it out there. Is there a possible exhaust leak in the header pipes before the mufflers, perhaps around the y?

    Rear Tire

I had to run a tube in a E3 on the rear of my 06 Royal. I picked up 3 nails in a tire with less than 1000 miles and the shop refused to patch. They installed the tube and I rode for 12k miles with no issues. Worked for me.
  8. If you snore when you sleep and if you have apnea (ask the wife she can tell you) a consult with you Dr. about it can help. I also use a CPAP device and it has cured most of my insomnia issues. Fatigue is the big symptom of that. I also have Vit. D and B12 deficiencies as I am a diabetic. I take 2000iu of D and 2500iu of B12 sublingual daily. It does help. Getting checked out and finding the issues at play are important. Good luck Bob
  9. With size 14 shoes I also do not like the heel shifter as it comes on the bike. It is a work in progress, but this was my solution so far and I still have some editing to do...
  10. I believe I read that the E-3's are 5 ply for the rear. That may explain the stiffness that the OP mentioned he felt. I have a set on my 06 and I really like the tires and am hoping that I get some decent mileage from them. Previously I ran Pirelli MT Route 66 tires and for a 2 ply tire they did ok at 12k for the rear when removed.
  11. I believe they have solid lifters. Besides the ticking noise is likely lack of lubrication until the thicker oil gets to the top of the engine. Just a thought. Bob
  12. Update: 11k and change on the Pirelli66 back tire and it is time for a replacement. It handled well in all situations and proved dependable. I expected a little better mileage from it and it just wasn't there. I have to agree with Goose. Good tire with average mileage. I am replaceing the rear with an EliteIII. We shall see what happens... perhaps there is a BF Goodrich tire in my future...
  13. If I understand this correctly... higher octane gas is used for engines with higher compression. The point of high octane gas is to retard the burn rate of the fuel to keep the engine from suffering "Preignition Knock" allowing the engine to run correctly respective to it's ignition timing. "Dieseling" can also happen as a result but is not the primary focus. 10:1 compression ratio is considered to be the separation point of a high compression engine as I understand it. The Royal Star engine will run fine on 87 Octane fuel in most cases. I hear it mentioned at higher elevations you would want to run a mid grade. Higher octane fuel burn's slower and would not be the best choice for a engine that will burn a lower grade fuel. It is lower in octane not quality and in fact imparts more energy when burned then its higher octane cousin. Having heard this discussion many times on a couple of forums it always seems to come down to two points... Run what the manufacturer says or better... run the lowest octane the engine will tolerate without pinging. It saves you money and the engine will run its best. That would be my 2 cents for what it is worth.
  14. I have the MT66 tires on my RSTD. 7,000 miles so far and they are doing very well. I took a couple 2k trips on them last summer and with the bike fully loaded they performed fantastic. I traveled nearly a full day in a heavy rainshower on the interstate on one of those trips and moved along at 75 mph and never felt unstable. I will be staying with these tires and at the price it seems they are hard to beat. The real question will be milage. I expect 12,000 for the back. We shall see.
  15. My ghod... I am in love... or at least lust. I just knew those pipes would sound deep and rumbly. Yet they still putter while cruising. I could not hear my engine running over the tire noise, wind, and lifter tick... now I can. Well, I guess that means I am happy.
  16. Heading out to slap them on now...
  17. I too had some boxes waiting at my door when I arrived home from work. In one I found my shark fin mufflers. Sadly I didn't get them on today, but will soon. I smiled just reading the description of your ride... I can't wait to take mine.
  18. I had a Roadhouse 2-1 exhaust on my Suzuki volusia installed. The pipes had a deep rumble and nice bark when you twisted the throttle for effect. While riding in general the sound was unique and not offensive to the ears of my fellow riders, or so I was told. I have a set of the shark fin slipon's on order for my RSTD. It is nice to hear that you are getting compliments on your mod. I can't wait to hear the results myself.
  19. FWIW I have the same issue with the Bridgestone tire in the back. I hear it at in town speeds mostly when I lean slightly to either side and when the tire is warm. I hate these tires and plan to change them soon. It sounds like a howl when my speed goes above 30.
  20. I was wondering if anyone knows the measurements of the RSTD bars. The rise, pullback, and width. I would like to make some actual comparisons and can't find the specifics. If I overlooked something please let me know, and I did a search. I appreciate your time.
  21. I have an '06 RSTD. I had a chirper. They replaced the basket with an "I" and the problem is solved. She is quite quiet now.
  22. I have to agree. I live in Oswego, NY and our group rides through Tug Hill a lot and on into the Adirondacks. Beautiful area and nice riding.
