I left the house this morning, it was 34* out, So as long as it's not I'll have a good ride. The PCH is a must.

Looks like I'll be going out to San Francisco the 2nd & 3rd week of December for work. I'm thinking about renting a bike for 2 days. Where should I ride it to ? I'd like to see some rural coastline, maybe Yosemite or Sequoia ? I'd love to see some of those Giant trees they have out there, are they Redwoods or Sequoia's?

A different coolant leak

Yeah, I looked at that too. The shop manual calls it the "Crankcase Breather Cover" No leak there. -
A different coolant leak
ragtop69gs replied to ragtop69gs's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well, after doing everything I could to locate the source of the leak, with no luck, I shimmed all 4 plugs and put it all back together. I'll go for a put later today then see what I have in the morning. I'll be surprised if it helps. Other than that, the only thing I changed was to snug up all the clamps. -

A different coolant leak

I have the fins off both sides, front and rear there is no tracking that a coolant leak would leave. I did a close inspection of everywhere there's an o-ring, no signs at all of a leak. This really has me scratchin my head -
gloomy and cold ! Is that what you call 75 degrees?

A different coolant leak
ragtop69gs replied to ragtop69gs's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
After close inspection of everything you have talked about, I can say without a doubt, it's not coming from any of the hose connections or o-rings, up there or where the hoses meet the head, or water pump. No signs of leakage around the head gaskets either. I guess my next step is to pressure test the system. Not sure what it will acomplish since I can see no visible sign of a leak. -

That's what I figured. I have a bottle of dye in the garage, I'll put some in. Thanks -

I'll pop the tank off for a look around. I could not see any tracking coming from up there, you think you'd see some signs. Will the blacklight show the coolant without adding a dye to the system? Thanks for the offer, If need be I will call. How could the leak be up that high but not show any signs of a coolant stream that are visible ? Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll report back with my findings. -

Thanks for the suggestions Ruffy. Guess I'll just have to start digging into it. -
I have read all the posts about the plugs behind the fins. I pulled the fins to check the plugs and found none of them to be leaking. The drip just started as the cold weather set in, It drips just behind the kickstand pivot. The puddle is the size of a silver dollar after 24 hours. This on an '01 RSV 40K on the odo. So if it's not the cylinder plugs what else might it be? I see no seepage around the head gaskets or anywhere on top of the motor. Inspection with a mirror and flashlight of the underside of the motor shows it dripping off the shift rod, but I can't tell where it's coming from. The reserve tank is at the proper level. No overheating problems. My last few rides have been in temps of 25 to 40 degrees. I need to get this fixed before Thursday, as a pgr member we provide the parking guides for the veterans day service at Great Lakes National Cemetery.

Thanks for clearing that up. Lord knows we should not neglect our pumpkins, especially at this time of year.

Imagine seeing this on a bike in Yellowstone
ragtop69gs replied to friesman's topic in Watering Hole
Those are some fantastic pictures. We got lucky back in August while we were in Yellowstone, Saw a mama griz and 2 cubs walking on a ledge about 30 yards from us. I had just put the camera back in the saddlebag We had snow then also, they had the south entrance closed till mid day, delayed our ride down to Jackson Hole by a few hours. -

Now that looks like it would be all kinds of fun. I have rode the old Chrysler Sno-Scoots, they are fun, but nowhere near the power a modern enduro puts out.

I wish your father the best. Praying for a full recovery. Thank god they found the aneurysm, I lost my grandfather and 2 uncles to them. It is a heredity thing, I get checked for it every other year, you should too.

Up here in Michigan, they stopped putting those stickers anywhere near your line of sight , after a few places got sued for causing an accident. Seems the sticker caused the driver to crash, so the defendant had to pay

Tab Broke on Lower
ragtop69gs replied to sadicarnot's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Same one broke on my 01 . I also glued it back on with an ABS glue then reinforced the repair with a liquid 2 part epoxy. So far it's holding up well. -
An elderly, Jewish man named Mr. Steinfeld lived in a nursing home. One day he was walking slowly down the hallway with his head down. One of the nurses saw this and asked "Mr. Steinfeld, is everything alright?" Mr. Steinfeld replied "No darling, my penis died today." Shocked, the nurse replied "I'm sorry to hear that." Mr. Steinfeld proceeded to walk slowly with his head down back to his room. The next day the same nurse saw Mr. Steinfeld walking down the hallway, but this time his pants were unzipped and his penis was hanging out. The nurse asked "Mr. Steinfeld, I thought your penis died?" Mr. Steinfeld replied "That was yesterday, today is the viewing."

That's the truth ! I did a U-turn up to a pump once, thinking there was a puddle of water, that turned out to be diesel, my front tire hits it and the next thing I know I'm standing there and the bike's layin on it's side next to the pump:confused24: Happened so quick it took a second to realize what had happened.

We were in yellowstone 2 weeks ago and encountered just about every type of weather. Sun, rain, snow and sleet. The south entrance was closed for about 6 hours because of snow. By mid morning it had reopened and we continued on to Jackson Hole. If you are considering going to Thermopolis be aware that US 26/287 is under construction somewhere between Dubois and Riverton and is dirt/mud/rocks for about 6 miles. If it's been raining it's treacherous, many bikes went down the day before we went through. Be careful around the Bison, they are in rut and can be unpredictable. If you get over the Beartooth be careful on 212 North of Red Lodge, the deer are as thick as flies. Have a great time.
