  1. Mines kinda a whirring noise while in gear at and moving at all speeds, goes away when clutch pulled in. Now in neutral I pull the clutch in I feel nothing but when I let the clutch out in neutral I can feel like and imbalance probably from the clutch pack I'm suspecting I can feel it through the bike just like its a bad bearing and whatever is not spinning straight but wobbly if you know what I mean. I'm pretty sensitive to the vibrations of the bike I also have solid mounts on the bike too.
  2. Road glides look alright for a Harley need a Vrod motor and even I 1st Gen lover might be interested in 1 best handling of all the Harley big bikes IMHO. You can deck them out like a Ultra. If I had to get a Harley these would be the one.
  3. That thing is stupid fast I wanna try it.
  4. Since this is bearing talk do you know what the wheel bearing numbers are for the front and back?
  5. The brain box is located behind the dash on the right side its pretty big. I crashed last year and took out the whole right side rebuilt bike now mine isnt working either box was damaged the new used one I have doesnt appear to work. I let you know if I find something that may help you.
  6. I'm really thinking this is it Squeeze I can hear a slight rattle at idle on the side stand and when I push the clutch in it goes away. At speed in gear its an annoying whirring noise. Is the bearing open? Can you describe the way it looks they were asking me at the store. Is it open faced which I;m assuming it is. Thank you for your responses. Jim
  7. Anyone know what a failing clutch bearing sounds like. I'm getting a whirring type sound while riding that goes away when I pull the clutch in. ANy ideas
  8. I was an R1
  9. Yes I second this dont ask how I know.
  10. I prefer the GW looks and foot pegs over Harley looks and boards and dont like Vtwins. I dont like boards never used them as such always had my foot at the very edge like on a peg. Dont care for feet foward at all like the knees bent. The only thing I dont care for on the GW is the motor sticking out the sides interfers with my big feet pretty much why I got a 1st Gen looks and the motor is compact. Though working on a Harley type is much easier no plastic to remove.
  11. Its a HONDA just like or Yamaha's
  12. Take out the diaphrams and unscrew the the needle cover and pull out the needle see what setting the washer is at and see if you can put it to the next setting that would put more of the needle into the carb and try it out. Then check a plug to see if it s to lean. I tried this from 5bikes and it worked real well for my set up. No gaurantee it will work for you. Its easy to change back and forth. I went from about 33 mpg at 4000 rpm 70 mph to about 42 mpg. The 1990 I have the needles dont have different settings but 83-85 do. I had to use washers and remove the old plastic spacer. I have a set of 84 carbs and I noticed the needle is much more tapered then the 90 so it would dump fuel in more so at higher rpms I wonder if your needles have been raised in the past lowering them might help. You can just take off the side panels and unscrew the lower fairing top to get to the diaphrams
  13. You can lower the needles easily on that bike the needles have I think 5 positions if you lower them you might get better mileage.
  14. Well I was looking at my 1990 carb jet needles and compared them to a set of 84 carb needles I have and they are different. They 1984 ones are tapered to dump more fuel into the carbs at high rpms. So I'm sure that will make a difference in acceleration and speed.
  15. Interesting dont know why though. Did you put it back in and see if mileage drops again to confirm? Mine has a restrictor also and its a California model dont know if thats partial to those or not. I wonder if you had some sort of fluid in the restrictor. I wonder if any effect I would have if I removed the evaporative cannister?
  16. I gotta agree with Bill I think the 3rd Gen will break from the old school look its run its course time for a change. I m more from the sport bike generation Ninja's, Hurricane's etc I was a babe in the sixties didnt ride classic looking bikes then nor do I want to own one. In fact kinda tired of seeing them run through my small town making a ton of noise with their extra loud pipes. Dont want Harley 100 yr old tech with the same tired look. BMW at least goes out there and makes some effort at high tech improvements even more so then Honda (I'm a big fan of Honda own a car, SUV, and watercraft) I'm just hoping Yamaha makes a big change and doesnt come out with the same bike otherwise I'm going to look elsewhere. Everyone has their dislikes and likes and I respect ya'lls love of the old look but I'm really hoping for something different.
  17. I have the same noise plus a slight clutch rattle plus a whine.
  18. No they are good bikes. The only thing I dont care for is the motor sticking out so far foot issues. I got a chance to screw around with a friend in the Ozarks this past weekend he riding his Goldwing me on the Venture. He had me off the line every time but I could keep up fairly well never could catch him though. He was getting 37-40 mpg up to 80 mph I was getting 32 mpg at 75-80mph what a drag.
  19. Is your drain switch on the wrong setting? I put in one of those temp switches that make your fan come on earlier. My temp never reads more than 1/2 now mostly 1/3.
  20. Lights work fine.
  21. Led bulbs maybe thats why.
  22. I do notice the junkyard guys trying to get ridiculous junkyard prices for items. You can usually tell the regular joe.
  23. Thanks Squeeze could you describe all the carb jets and thier various functions and how size changes what.
