Easier to read wiring schematic for 83-85 Ventures
CrazyHorse replied to dingy's topic in Watering Hole
Very nice Dingy. Nice professional job. What kind of rewiring are you doing Thom? Im having crusie control issues and want to go over the whole wiring for the 1990 model -
I dont know its just what the guy was saying who knows if its true. A friend of mine is looking to get a 2nd Gen possibly. Maybe hes just trying to make a sale a clear a 2nd Gen. Take everything with a grain of salt when it comes to this subject.

I was just taling to a Yamaha person who related he was at a meeting of Yamaha people and he basically said the Venture is going to retire after the 2010 year. That the Stratoliner with the big 1800 Vtwin will take its place that its motor is very torquey and 100 HP. They will have another limited VMax run of 2000 bikes for the US with an anniversary red color. that the stock VMAX is detuned to 170 HP that they will offer an unleashing of the beast true performance for $900 of 200 hp. That there will not be a 2nd Gen with a Vmax motor but something new in its place. What that is he didn't know.

Motorcyclist Magazine Article - helmet study
CrazyHorse replied to GG54172's topic in Safety and Education
Pretty amazing most impacts are the jaw area. Guess those halfy helmets are pretty worthless but they are cooler on the head. -

I wonder if there is a 1st Gen mod to raise the seat to give a little more comfort to the legs.

Looking more like a Victory Vision I can never find any actual sales numbers can anyone else? My newest prediction is the Venture name dies here. This Stratoliner will take over for the current 2nd Gen Harley competitor ( it has the big 1800 Vtwin motor and an Ipod hook up on it and O my GOD fuel injection.) and Yamaha will go in a different direction with the new Vmax motor something on lines of a big sport tourer with a touch of performance and comfort. To me it makes sense why waste that high performance Vmax motor on a crusier type bike when they have this Stratoliner 1800 Vtwin for that style. Now I'm more convinced it will be a sportier/touring type bike with the new Vmax motor with a different name. Who knows what it will look like though. Just my 2 cents. I have a couple of friends that have the Street Glide they both say the same thing crappy handling at speed the fairing causing some issues.

I feel I have better control of a bike if my feet are under me. I feel like I have alot less control if my feet are way forward. I'm 6'02" If I'm riding more aggressively I feel very unstable the further forward my feet are. I rode a friends VROD which was nice but the foot controls were so far forward I felt very unstable in anything that resembled a turn. When I ride the RoadKing like Pegscraper my feet are all the way back and hanging off the rear portion of the boards. Now the first hour of a long ride around my knees might hurt but then it goes away and I'm fine the rest of the time on a 1st Gen.

I think I can get at least the right hand thread locally in either chrome or stainless Ill have to check about the lefty one. This hardware store near me amazes me with the amount of choice in bolts nuts etc. Give me a couple of days.

Cruise Control
CrazyHorse replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Powers up all lights try to set it nothing but power light, set does light does not activate nor does cruise control activate, pump works in testing. Now i have taken the switches apart they dont look great inside. I ended up screwing up the plastic to the cancel switch which is attached to the wires. Does anyone know what color wires go to what switch? -
I think one could mount regular motorcycle mirrors in those holes and I believe Yamaha uses a left hand thread on one of them. So if you have a regular Yamaha mirror you could find out the thread size from that. I have a hardware store near that I have to go to that has damn near every kind of bolt/nut in chrome stainless whatever. I could look for you.

Does anyone know if you can test the cruise control wires and various switches through the socket that plugs into the the crusie control brain. Using either a voltmeter or 12 volt test light?

Tim do you know the lumen output of the lights?

I like it. I was thinking about running bright cyan colored LED's for night riding. I guess cyan is the best color for your night eyesight to help pick out objects from my understanding. The bulbs I was looking at need a heat sink on them to cool them though. What do you think about cyan? Now I was thinking if your riding how much cooling do you need on the LED if you had some sort of vent. The LED should be waterproof I would think. What do you think?

All this bad coil talk is there a reliable way of telling if your coils are all firing. I really hate pulling plugs on these since its such a pain.

Thanks you RandyA and Squeeze your suggestions helped. My speedometer was off by 10 mph it dead on at higher speeds now at lower ones its just slightly off now. RandyA your speedometer fix worked very well my speedos pretty accurate now. Squeeze thanks for your suggestion on replacing the clutch pressure plate bearing I had a serious whine at all RPMS but now I just have it at 3000 rpm so for most of my ride if I stay off of 3000 rpm I no longer have the whine. Thanks to both of you.

I have to agree with you Bill the RSV has been around basically since 1996 in one form or another. 13 years ago. Baby boomers with money fueled that classic motorcycle look of Harley just before that Harley was dead on its knees. Baby Boomers looking for their youth could reminisce with old looking bikes. Baby boomers are getting older and they already bought their bikes or are quitting riding. That big market isnt going to be around. I'm 43 and have no interest in a classic looking bike its just plain boring everywhere you look its the same looking bike. I prefer a sporty more technologically advanced motorcycle that can perform and be comfortable. I grew up with Honda Hurricane's and Ninja's not classic looks. I think the market has to change. Just like kids today are hopping up the Japanese cars instead of the American ones. Times change. Harleys gonna have to change eventually too or they'll be like they were in 70-80s struggling to breath. Yea 13 years ago I think Harley sells more bikes then Yamaha does in the touring segment so I think Harley has it all sewn up. Good article on the future of motorcycles a couple years old though. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/future.htm#futureofhd

Cruise Control Trouble
CrazyHorse posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ever since my crash I rebuilt the bike the right side was heavily damaged and the cruise control brain was damaged I acquired another one but it appears it doesnt work. The vacuum pump checks ok, the switches check ok. The display lights up but does not give any trouble codes. If I disconnect the vacuum pump it will give a trouble code. The light powers up and all the lights work but the cruise will not turn on at any speed. Any ideas and is there any way to check the brain box?
