CrazyHorse replied to frankd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)

Remember you have to get the carbs correctly seated all the way into the boots both top and bottom. I always found it hard to seat them with the all the carbs tightend together before putting on the bike. I always left them a little loose so they could individually move a little bit and slide in thier respective boots. I could get some to seat correctly while others would pop out slightly if I had the carb block all tightend down before putting on the bike. After I get them seated properly even though its hard sometimes I tightend up the carb brackets while on the bike. Now it easier on mine since I used allen head screws instead of the regular phillips head on the carbs and thier brackets. If you use the regular phillips youll need one of those 90 degree angled screw drivers. -
Just wish it was a little bigger and came with a radio. More BMW K1200LT/Goldwing type. Then I might consider one. Rather have V4 though. Since they dont seem to want to bring out a 3rd Gen Venture in any configuration Old School look they have now or Sporty look that I'm hoping for. Just wish Yamaha would do sonething new either something you 2nd Geners like or something us 1st Geners like just make a decison on something new and get it over with.

$10. In Illinois it $500 and then $1000 plus they may suspend your license.

1st Gen brake upgrade
CrazyHorse replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well compared to other bikes it's not very good Modern Harleys stop better. -
Texas deer? They re as big as a cat. Come up this way for some corn fed.

Me 2 get off the rear right then. If it comes aound to far you gotta stay on it. Front brake in a curve to hard and you gonna low side bike cant brake hard and turn hard at same time. Dont ask how I know. Front trail brake with care (lite pressure) in a turn. Rear brake is a little better in turn. Your gonna have to straighten out and brake so as not to let the front wheel washout from underneath you. If you want to have any sense of control.

Motorcycle sales are down in this economny Harley laying off 1000 people. Bikes are more of a luxury item then everyday transportation at least in this country not sure about the rest of the world.

1st Gen brake upgrade
CrazyHorse replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yea I have all of that HH pads SS lines (which thru a friend cost bout 150 us) R1/R6 calipers, Gsx750 master, it stops better then it did linked and all of that but I'm looking for better. Bigger disks is what I'm going for ours in my opinion are to small. Vmax,FJR rotors Thanks Squeeze! Your the man. What would this site do without you. Now to find some. I love the bike but want even more performance and since it almost 20 years old I dont feel bad tinkering with it. Squeeze hows that fuel injection project coming for the Venture? I have access to a couple of wrecked Suzuki GSX's and R6 thier injectors and other parts. -
Has anyone tried more upgrading of brakes then just the different calipers? The front disks on these bikes are pretty small by todays standards. I'm sure there are no bolt on bigger disks available. If you did this you would need to change the way the calipers would mount to get them to lineup with the disks. My questions are: Is there a front wheel from a different bike that would work that has bigger disks on it? Is there a set of forks and a wheel that might work with our bikes? Is it possible to drill a set of disks to fit on the bike? Any other suggestions? I'm not afraid to do the work any suggestions would be helpful. I'm not afraid to experiment.

How do you repair a 1st Gen speedometer mine is 10mph high so it says I'm doing 70 mph really doing 60 mph How do you fix it?
-
What I mean the ratings 5 star etc means against similar size vehicle. I d hate to see that Smart car against a SUV or Large pickup . You not only have hard foward crash forces but a whiplash effect as you rocket backwards from the impact. Which will throw the body around like a rag doll. I believe in that video on an offset crash the head heads toward the A-pillar and smashes against it even after the airbag went off not a good thing. Theres not a lot of crush or collapsible area to dissipate an impact. I'm not trying to insult anyone for their choice of cars but those ratings are deceiving.
-
The test is against a similiar size car not bigger cars. Read the article it tells you what to expect when you hit a bigger vehicle. Dont be deceived by crash ratings.
-
Being on the scene of more then my fair share of accidents the Smart car is a stupid investment for safety. Your riding in your coffin. I guess you could save on a casket. The bigger the better. Mass will win every time. My Honda Civic is twice as big and gets 43 mpg on the highway (non- hybrid) and its not the safest car either.
