  1. after much deliberation and looking at my bank account i ordered a new seat from ultimate seats. best move i 've made in a while. we ride a 1997 rstd and the stock seat choices were terrible. this is the most comfortable seat i've found anywhere, the phone at the company was answered by a real person who was very helpful and courtious, and the seat arrived in 5 days. everything about the perchase was a positive experience. i would recommend this seat and this company very highly. ride safe and be cool, thumper1:clap2:
  2. i bought the mutazu 110.00 trunk for my rstd and have found it to be plenty substantial, and much more comfortable than the postage stamp back rest that was on it. the abs is plenty think and the lock set works fine. the only thing i found suspect were the hinges but they're ok. i'm also adding a ultimate seat next week and will post pics when i get everything in place. ride safe and be cool, thumper1
  3. maybe i see things in too simplistic ways but it seems to me if no one responds to the questionable posts it gets a lot less fun to post them. again, maybe just to simple. thanks for a great site, keep up the good work. ride safe and be cool , thumper1
  4. first, unless you have family there or you are going there to cash in a huge winning lottery ticket, plan to go almost anywhere but south bend in. i'm from there and i am convinced my old man was right when he said in that part of the country you have 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad ice fishing. come to daphne al. great seafood lovely people and beautiful rides along the gulf coast. just kidding... kinda. have a great ride and enjoy every mile. ride safe and be cool, thumper1:080402gudl_prv:
  5. sold an 84 venture and bought a97 rstd and have been very happy with the choice. pros, more nimble, lower center of gravity easier to move around. plenty of power for me. cons, need to get more accessories to make it as comfortable as the venture, stock seat is not nearly as comfortable. all in all a good trade for us. ride safe and be cool, thumper1
  6. I have a 1997 rstd and was wondering if anyone had tried a mutazu db trunk and if they were happy or unhappy with the product. I don't want to cobble something together but need more storage and it would be much more comfortable for my wife. Any info would be appriciated. Thanks, Thumper1
  7. dont mean to rub it in but it was 72 here today and 70 tommorrow. moved to the gulf coast from elkhart in. 2 1/2 years ago best move we ever made. excuse me gotta turn the steaks on the grill outside. ride safe and stay warm. thumper1:cool10:
  8. i have rented trailers from u haul twice and had no problems with them. at 19.95 a day its not a bad deal. thumper1
  9. i changed the battery on my 84 and just got used to the light being on. didnt even notice it after a while. ride safe and be cool, thumper1
  10. payment or no payment is certainly an individual choice.we had 6000.00for a bike or down payment. we found a 97 rstd for 4500.00 with 14000 miles and went thar route. but almost went for a victory vision, but in the end went conservative. so it's all in what youwant. good luck on the search. ride safe and be cool thumper1:mo money:
  11. we used to live up near sedona, and no trip would be complete without going through sedona and uphwy 89a through oak creek canyon to flagstaff then up to the top of the snow bowl on san francisco mtn. a great motorcycle ride . enjoy maybe next year for us. ride safe and be cool, thumper1
  12. i just made our reservations for a suite at the quality inn for sat. don't know how we would hook up but would like to see some folks from ventureriders over there.maybe pm me for phone number and we can meet for a beverage. ride safe and be cool, bill
  13. the gas cap doesn't seem to have any vacuum or problem coming off but i will check closer, seems to happen after sitting for an hour or so on hot days
  14. about a half dozen times in the last few months, my 97 rstd has just shut down after about 1/2 mile. i pulled over opened the gas cap , thinking maybe a gas cap venting problem but i don't know. the bike starts back up and runs fine afterward. i was thinking gas cap vent problem or maybe ignition switch short but not sure. any ideas would be appriciated. thanks, thumper1
  15. my wife and i started back riding a few years back on an 84 venture. after a short time i realized it was just a trait of that bike and it didn't bother us at all. sold that with 98,000 miles and bought an rstd. the whine with this isn't anything compared to the venture so i am loving this bike. ride safe and be cool, thumper1
  16. thanks for the tip. we got a 97 rstd resently with a windshield that is pretty bad with spiderweb scratches. i will give that stuff a try. another product that works great on whitewall tires is the magic eraser by mr clean. no solvents just alittle water and it works well. not real durable but good for a number of uses. ride safe and be cool, thumper1
  17. we joined the southern cruisers some time back and have not been able to be as involved as we would like. but the folks we have met have been very nice and not into the party thing. so if you are interested. there are no dues or fees and the group is a big contributor to st. judes. ride safe and be cool thumper1
  18. thanks for all the effort you and others put into this site. too many times it is taken for granted ,but just wanted to say thanks. ride safe and be cool thumper 1
  19. as with most things these days, many of our choises have been eliminated, same with gas. for what it's worth i have seen a real drop in mileage and performance using 87 octane. i try to use chevron hi test and get the best results. maybe i'm crazy... oh yeah wait ,that's right i am crazy.ride safe and be cool,thumper1
  20. 3 years ago when i got my 84 venture it had been sitting for a year. it fired up but was real sluggish. one can of seafoam and premium gas and there was a dramatic difference.another can 2 tanks later and it ran like new and have never had the carbs off.just bought a like new rstd and immediately put in a can. tried lucas and it was alright but not as good.i get mine at auto zone, around $6.00 a can. ride safe and be cool,thumper1
  21. first, hang up the phone and drive. it's a car not a phone booth. ride safe and be cool, thumper1
  22. Don, well said, and I will probably cheese someone off with this but who cares. Many of us are over the hill emptynesters or whatever, but we all made a choice to become bikers again after raising our kids and following all the rules and there is an inherant rebellion connected with the biker mentality. We all have different views and beliefs and I am sick to death of political correctness. There is never any excuse to purposely try to hurt someone else but sometimes you just cowboy up and get over it. Let's face it we're all here cause we're not all there anyway so have fun and don't be stupid. ride safe and be cool. Thumper1
  23. so glad they didn't come out worse, god's speed in recovery and as a fellow navy dad my appriciation to your son for his service to our country. sincerly,thumper1 ride safe and be cool
  24. I have found that they all fit pretty well from any year depending on the size of your hammer and the amount of duct tape you have on hand. ride safe and be cool thumper 1
