I have a really nice and easy to use file that is a "EXE" file. The size is approx 500 kb. It has just every metric conversion in it. Was not sure how to load it on the site but is anyone wanted a copy send me a PM. I will email it to you. Brad

Rick Question and statement, if you do not mind, (I am not doubting you just noticing something slightly different) You say popping while idling, The fuel mixture is lean. Is this the same as when we are decelerating ? The reason I ask is my 99 only pops when decelerating (down shifting) or letting off the throttle. However it only does it when the carbs are out of synch, and with the choke on slightly. AS soon as the engine warms and I shut the choke off, nothing no popping. Or if I go and synch the carbs I will not get any popping with choke on or off. If my choke (just slightly) is on then I would assume that my fuel mixture would be rich or at least richer than with it off. Rick Curious your thoughts. ? Original question. I assume the smell is gas fumes ??? I do not have the answer but I too smell fumes every once in a while under full throttle acceleration, but it is not all the time. It was worse a few months back but after some seafoam it seemed to clear up a bit but recently I have noticed it again. (bin a while since I have added Seafoam to the bike). Brad

Not sure but if it anything like the 2 nd gen you have to push both buttons at the same time to get the clock. Jeepers not even sure what buttons are called. Brad

I think most of us have done it. I remember the little plastic yamaha piece that covers the head nut on my old 750 fell off once. (Took me two months to find one). Figured it was on the floor. Went for a ride and when I got back I looked for it. It fell on top of the heads and stayed there when I got home it was melted. Never did find another one. I know not as severe as yours but bin there. Brad

I have the IMC and I am not sure how I sound over the mike portion but the speakers stink. Never use them, I listen through the speakers onthe bike. Never tried J&M so can not give you a comparison. Brad

If the choke is not stuck, and the cables are all working fine, try seafoam. Had a similar problem and it went away after a few tank fulls of gas and seafoam. Brad

I dropped mine without the front tire once, The centre stand kicked back up and it sure was scary. BE very careful the centre stand does not go up, it can be a real pain lifting it back up. Brad

Gord the first gen run near the red always and more so when in town. If you are not hitting the red, coolant is up there and the fan comes on I would not worry too much or at all. Brad

You never answered the first question ? But you answer was good for the Cig lighter outlet. I believe some will hard wire a connection and hide the plugs under the seat. Brad

I think Dan (stardbog) has gloves, vest and pants all heated for both he and his wife Linna. He said there was lots of power to power both of them. Brad

I have some problems with my 99 similar to what Don stated but I understand the connections that need to be looked at are in the fairing. A little dielectric grease appearantly does the trick. Brad

Well now I am sure if you were to get it in fourth and hit the rev limiter you will be putting some miles on in a hurry. Maybe not thousands but the miles will add up fast. Brad

Are you refering to design problems specifically, or major issues that happen because of time. Swifty had a major trouble with the antena bracket breaking off but I am not sure this was a common problem, just old age. Also the class system requires soldering after a while (I am not familiar with the specifics) Now I would suspect this thread to get alot of comments Brad -

How about the side saddlebags, bolts coming loose on the lid, sometimes preventing the opening of the lid. The hinge came off the lid of my bike bike on the way to vogel. Took 5 minutes to put back on but still a bummer. Brad
