At what point is a deceleration rumble called a backfire. When riding in the GA mountains, I had one or two definite (loud) backfires, but in normal riding the low rumble sounds like little backfires (good sound). Is the rumble I'm describing normal? If I hadn't had those loud backfires, I wouldn't even ask. The bike has 3000 miles and I've asked them to check the carb sync once since the first service (of course they said all was good). Any comments appreciated!

Service manager told me that all you accomplished by turning the fuel switch on and off was that you would wear out the seals in the switch. In 3000 miles, I've never turned it off and don't see any signs of leaks. How many turn the switch off?

Looking for a reasonable way to use a CB on my RSTD. The Midland 75-822 looks possible, but I use a half helmet and can't find any good way to mount it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Tie-down location on RSTD?
Shipper replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Just got back from the dealer and paid them $40 for probably doing just what you said. Wished I had checked the forum first, but for that $ they also checked my carb sync-so guess I did alright anyway. The service mgr said they were a lot stronger if pulled back because the factory assumed that was the way they would work in a fall-makes sense. Thanks again! -
Tie-down location on RSTD?
Shipper replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thanks for the replies! I use a self loading front chock that almost will hold the bike by itself, but will probably use the handlebars (as suggested) only. I hope they can straighten the bars; if not, I'll be looking for a good source to buy new ones. -
Tie-down location on RSTD?
Shipper replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Update: Just noticed that both rear crash bars are bent from tiedown straps. They are bent in just forward of the bolts (right side is worse). I hope they can be removed and straightened. Anyone got another suggestion for where to put the straps on a RSTD. Thanks! -
Mine has a whine, but not a chirp. Most of whine disappears when in OD. My VStar 1300 does not have it at all, but I think I'm getting used to the whine on the RSTD. I hope it doesn't get any worse. I didn't buy a GoldWing because it sounded like a sewing machine, but dealer did not let me test drive the RSTD (won't do that again). The VStar is a neat machine, but doesn't come close to the RSTD on the highway. Just some comments!

Where did you get the HD mounting plates? Thanks!

Bluetooth Wireless set/communications
Shipper replied to thecount's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
If the "shorty" is the same as a "half" helmet, then I'm using the Camos BTS 200H with their stereo adapter. Not currently using it for communication with passenger, but that's one of the reasons I got it. No wires and MP3 sound is good up to 50mph and fair at 70. I use a Zumo 550 and the lady voice cut's in on the MP3, but above 50 hard to hear (perhaps I shouldn't be turning at 50mph-maybe that's why my floor boards are all scratched up). Hope this helps. Cheers!- 34 replies

Center stand and seat?
Shipper replied to BigLenny's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Another plug for Rick Butler. I didn't think I could ride 50 miles on the stock seat, and sent it to Butler. Just got through with 310 miles with no problems. Can't say anything about the center stand, but I use a locking chock that is moveable between my trailer and garage-steady as a rock. Made by Baxley in Dothan, AL. -
When I stop gently the front brakes or fork make these noises especially when starting out. The service manager says it's normal(surprise). Is it? Also will the front fork hold air for more than a day? Thanks!

Other half of auxiliary plug on RSTD?
Shipper replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thanks to both! I did the same thing that V7Goose suggested-it was quick and cheap. The other suggestion was the link to the correct plug and the price was right, but I need to order more stuff to offset shipping. My Zumo is now powered by the Bike. -
Still can't find that rubber plug. Could you pin it down for me? Thanks!

Turnsignal turns off?
Shipper replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
When in doubt, read the manual. They turn off when you have "both" gone 490' and 15 seconds. I'm in the habit of giving plenty of notice when turning; guess I'll have to relearn. Thanks for the answers!- 6 replies

When I turn the signal on (seems like mostly left signal) and start downshifting, I notice that the signal is off before making turn. If at a stop light then I just turn them back on, but when I stop (or slow down) and it happens before I turn, then I fumble and try to turn them back on. Gives me a bad feeling that someone's going to plow into me. Is this a time thing (seems like they stay on until after I turn no matter how long I'm at a light) or something about downshifting? Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks! I knew if it was easy "anyone" could do it. Trust me to do it the hard way-use search features, community, etc. Now I know-might come in handy someday! PS: Any way to organize by State or Area? Looks like a long list!

Tie-down location on RSTD?
Shipper posted a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I use a locking wheel chock in my trailer and two tie downs to hold the back of the bike down and forward. My question is are the rear crash bars sufficiently secure to use them to connect to my D-Rings or is there a better place Thanks! -
Is there a clutch adjustment?
Shipper replied to wes0778's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
My new 2008 RSTD does exactly the same thing. I found out that the clutch has no adjustment; and, because it's hydraulic, needs some warm up for the fluid to flow sufficiently for the clutch to open. Only answer I've found is to always park in "neutral" (to avoid the "forward creep), and to get used to the clutch play. No service needed on my unit. Good luck!- 8 replies

I know I'm slow, but where is the "Assistance List"? I've spent the last 30 minutes searching for it and I quit. The FAQ doesn't recognize it nor any of the searches I've done. I've seen numerous mentions of it (including Moderators) but no links (or none that work). Help!

Power socket on RSTD?
Shipper replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Looking forward to the pics! Hope you can post them here. Thanks! Shipper -
Anyone do a permanent mount for a power socket using the auxiliary connection under the seat on the RSTD? Would like to mount close to the seat using a bracket. Any suggestions appreciated!

PS: What happened to my pictures? They were there just a while ago. I worked hard putting them in (newbie). How about it Admin-what was wrong?

Great ride. Rode last September with another couple. Best views are on the West side traveling either North or South. The roads on the Cabot Trail within the Cape Breton Highlands National Park are great-the balance of the Trail is so-so, but better than some we traveled in Alaska. Be sure and stop at the "Rusty Anchor" for good seafood. We went to where the gravel started into Meat Cove (northern most point in Nova Scotia) and decided we had nothing to prove, and continued down the East side (watch out for Moose). Also had a great ride on Prince Edward Island just not as spectacular!
