Gently! There is a tread somewhere on here or the Venturers about how to repair those tabs but I don't know where. If I find it I'll post it. Ok if you took the chrome piece off then you took the top two screws out (the top two on the inside of the fairing). You have to put the chrome piece back on before you put those two screws back in. If you have done that then just rock the chrome piece back and forth and gently slide it into place. I usually put the center in first then one side then the other. Freebird beat me to it.

Bought an '89 Venture SS....FOR SALE
YamaDuck replied to Freebird's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm Glad you sold it even if you didn't make a profit on it. I was really fighting back the urge to buy it and if I had my wife would have shot me. I have two bikes already and I can't believe she hasn't shot me already. I guess I'm pretty lucky though, she doesn't ride and she lets me have two bikes! -
Now that's what I'm talking about. The deals are out there. You just have to have patients.

I got mine at Radio Shack. It seems like it was $19.99 or maybe $29.99. It takes two AA batteries. You maybe able to find one cheaper on Ebay. I just zip tied it with two zip ties to my throttle cables. Of course depending on the type and size you get you can put them in several places. Mine has a place to hook up three devises so I guess I could also run two sets of headphones also.

I'm sure some of you guys have already figured this out but for some this may be interesting. I never listen to the radio. I always listen to my MP3 player. On our last big ride we had 12 bikes and most of them had load pipes. Going though Atlanta we also had the noise of 18 wheelers and cars. I had my MP3 player turned all the way up and the volume on the AUX pegged at 30. Yes I was getting distortion but it was the only way I could hear my MP3 player. The next day I was going through my junk and I noticed a old battery powered MP3/IPOD amplifier. I connected it to my MP3 player and turned the amp on and wow what a difference the amp made. I have Polk db401 speakers in the front and stock speakers in the rear. After a few minutes of listening to my music and trying the volume out my son pops his head into the garage and tells me my wife said to turn the volume down. Ok well I will take my Venture down the intersate and test her out. Without turning the volume up on the MP3 player and with the volume set at 20 on AUX the MP3 player was load and clear all the way up to 100 mph. WOOOHOOO!!!! Cheap fix. Now this amp doesn't do anything for the radio or cb but I hardly ever use either one of those anyway but for the MP3/IPOD it is great, cheap and easy to use. Harry:sign woo hoo:

Your paying to much but hey if you've got the money and your happy then go for it. You'll find out that most people don't bother with the CD changer. It cost 3 times what it's worth and when you have it you can't get rid of it. It takes up to much room in the saddle bag so people just put it in a drawer and forget about it. Most people use an IPOD or MP3 player to listen to there music. You can listen to 24 hrs of commercial free music that you like. As far as the pipes go if you like the sound of a load V4 then you'll be happy if you don't then you will have the stock pipes to put back on. Anyway welcome to the site I think you will be pleasantly surprised how helpful and friendly everyone is here. Harry:thumbsup2:

Yes I have though about it and have asked around locally about it but no one around here has ever used one. I would like to know how yours turns out.

I posted this in the wanted to buy section but not getting any help so I will post it here I hope that is all right. I am looking to buy a 5 pin handheld mic that will plug into the 2nd Gen plug that sits on the gas tank. J&M use to make one but not anymore. I have been to 3 truck stops and the few 5 pin cb handheld mics they have do not match up and all the rest of the mic's are 4 pin. I would like to buy a handheld mic that works with the 2nd Gen or if someone has a model number of a handheld mic that they could give me I can Google it and buy a new one. Thanks Harry:puzzled:

The MM has a badge or small plate on the trunk with the number on it. If you bought yours without the trunk you would probable have to get in touch with Yamaha and give them your vehicle ID number to find out.

Sounds Great! Ride safe.

I do agree with this in part but I also believe the size and weight of the rider do play a part in the handling. Lets say you have two equally qualified riders one is 5'3" and 110 lbs the other is 6'3" and 290 lbs. Now everything being equal except the size of the riders the 290 lb taller rider would have a higher center of gravity than the smaller rider and so the Venture would be more top heavy and more unstable. Would this effect the handling of the Venture, I believe it would. Would a rider with excellent riding ability notice, probably not. Would a rider with a lesser ability notice, maybe. Just my worth.

You have a good point here. My tail bone has never hurt me. I guess you would call them my seat bones (as Rick Butler calls them). The two pointy bones that you sit on. I guess the way I'm built the one on my right is the one that hurts. I guess I will try a Corbin seat. The Venture Corbin seat I have seen gets the most positive remarks. Most Corbin seats for other bikes have a lot of negative comments. The Venture Corbin seat seem to be different. Very few negative comments. I understand that you can't get everyone to agree and that's only human nature. I appreciate everyone's help so I guess I'm going to bite the bullet and get a Corbin. Thanks:mo money:

Yea I'll check all the things you guys have suggested. One thing though this has been this way since the day I purchased it. So I don't think it is the oil but how knows maybe the guy who owned it before me put regular car motor oil in it?

I have a friend (believe it or not) and we went riding. He was on a Honda 750 Shadow. At every red light he would stand up and stretch his legs (I thought). After a while I couldn't stand it anymore and I asked him why he would stand up at every light. He said his butt hurt. I told him I had a stock seat and I was fine since we were just riding about 50 miles and I thought his seat looked fine. When we got to our lunch spot I went over and touched his seat. No padding at all! If you pushed down on the leather seat your finger went all the way the the seat frame. I thought it was a defect. A few weeks later we were at a Honda showroom and there was a Honda 750 Shadow brand new. I went up to the seat and pushed the leather seat cover down and it did the same thing. They don't put any padding in there 750's seat! Now to the nuts and bolts. I don't know how you ride but I have been having a problem with my but starting to hurt after about 80 miles. Well I have to get this under control July 15th another friend (yes I have two friends) and I are going on a 11,000 mile trip in just 30 days so we are going to be averaging about 400 mile a day so I need to find an answer. I was slouching kinda sitting low and my butt kept hurting. I finally sat upright and move as far back in the seat as possible ( I have a Utopia backrest) and my but didn't hurt anymore. I just tried it out of desperation but I figured it would not work but it did. I thought I would put more pressure on my butt but I didn't. So to make this long story short try moving around and try different sitting positions. Wew...

Just keep in mind. Yamaha did the R & D for the Venture probably between 1995 and 1998. So Yamaha probably thought they were doing a pretty good job considering the times. So basically if you buy a 2009 model you are really buying a new 1999 Venture. Nothing has changed on the Venture. Where all the other manufacturers have been updating their models at least every few years Yamaha has been snoozing in their big easy chair with their IPOD's turned up and their eyes shut. Now I love my Venture but I am still hunting a comfortable seat. I have the original and a Butt Butler replacement (which is ton's better than the original) but the nose is still too wide and I still get uncomfortable on long trips. I don't have a pillow top and maybe that or a Corbin is the next step. I have risers and that solved the handlebar issue with me. I have two replacement windshields and adjustable foot pegs. It would be nice if Yamaha would listen to it's customers. Does anyone speak Japanese?

On my 2000 Venture when I toe shift through the gears it is difficult to shift. I have a couple of friends with Ventures ( a 2005 and a 2006) and they shift with ease. About like my Road Star. I have no idea why mine is more difficult to shift. Is it the oil that I am using? I haven't changed the fluids since I bought it. I've ridden about 3000 miles since I have owned it and I was told by the previous owner he had just change the oil when I bought it. Maybe something mechanical? I have no issue shifting but it does begin to wear on your leg after 4 or 5 hours of riding. Any ideas?

I see a lot of talk about how hard the Corbin seat is but I have not read anything about if it is comfortable or not. I'm a little confused I guess because if the Corbin is so hard why do you see so many Ventures with Corbin seats? I'm so confused.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but wait until you have to figure out how to use the Radio/CB/Tapedeck/and or CD changer. Oh my head hurts. Hey I actual saw someone using the tapedeck the other day. I don't know why but maybe he was trying to get back to his routes or something. I just use my MP3 so all I have to do is put it on AUX and adjust the volume.

I bought the same cover from China. 99 cents plus $17 shipping. The cover is light weight and has no windshield cloth sewn into the inside to protect the windshield from scratches. I keep checking the windshield and so far so good. It is basically a dust cover. I have never left it out in the rain and I doubt it would keep the rain out but who knows. Harry:confused24:

Yep I know, I'm always dreaming. Dream on and let us see her when your finished.

No. No pop. Many think that the MM is the best color scheme. Of course some don't but I think it is. Of course your opinion is the only one that matters.
-
NO!!!! That is one fine, sleek looking Venture. You've done a great job. Please don't change the color! It's perfect.

Folding backrest for stock seats?
YamaDuck replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the Utopia and I love it. GREAT customer service. If you can't manage to drill out two holes that are already there to a little bit bigger hole size then you need to spend the extra money and buy the Diamond R backrest. I have not regretted my choice one bit. But like I said before if your drill challenged or have extra money buy the Diamond R they are both great backrest.
