There are several options available to you. The bolts are very very soft. When I broke one off just like you I was not applying an pressure on it at all. I have to assume I applied to much pressure the last time I put the seat on. All I did was drill out the old bolt and re threaded the hole with a 1/4 - 20 tap (1/4 -28) would have been better but I didn't have a tap that size. I cut the head off a 1/4 -20 bolt and ran a nut over the end I cut off so that I could start in the the 1/4 - 20 hole in the seat. I put JB Weld in the hole and I threaded the 1/4 - 20 bolt into the hole. I then put a flat washer on so that the JB Weld held the washer up against the bottom (I don't remember why I used the washer I just remember I used it). I let it hardened and I put a 1/4 - 20 nylon washer on it so I wouldn't have to over tighten it again and it was fixed. If you want to put a mm bolt back in you can buy all the stuff in metric sizes and use the original size. Also Rick (The Butt Butler) put a new metric bolt in when I sent him the see to have it redone. and lastly there is a thread either on this site or Venturers site that tells you how to fix it buy going into the side of the seat pan.

I have not seen one in person but I would be willing to bet that the flames are stickers with clear coat over them just like the pin striping on the Ventures now. I think the stripes are two colors. Mostly white or gray or silver and red. Oh and I'm not crazy about the flames either.

Strange??? I emailed Mustang about 3 months ago asking them if they were coming out with a seat for the venture. Their answer was No we are not coming out with a seat for the Venture and we have no plans to make one in the future. I certainly hope they were covering something up when they emailed me that reply. I would love to see a Mustang seat for the Venture.

Does the bike have to be in warranty to get the I basket? I know Yamaha will not pick up the tab for the installation on an out of warranty bike but Yamaha has so many complaints about the whining they certainly know people are unhappy with the whining. The whine is not that bad but if I can get rid of it I would be a lot . The bike only has 6500 miles on it and I put 2000 of those on it since December.

Thank goodness mine is not that bad. I have a friend that has an 06 and his was very loud. I don't think I could have lived with it if mine was that loud.

Sometimes you can pay a little higher at a local shop and with the money they save on mounting their tires you can sometimes come out better. So like Mike said see if one will match the price and if not how close they can come and ask there mounting price if you buy the tires from them verses bringing your tires in. Around here the local shops will mount tires purchased anywhere but you pay extra if you don't buy the tires from them.

Well my 2001 has a bit of a whine. Not to bad but enough to let you know it's there. About 60 in 4th. Seems to be worse with a little acceleration. When the engine is not under pressure it is quite. It kinda forces me into 5th earlier than I want but my Venture seems to do fine in 5th at about 45. I just don't accelerate very hard or I down shift and put up with the whine. I read all the post about Motorkote and thought I would give it a try. I had a oil leak from a bad gasket in the middle gear so I replaced it. I topped off the oil (which had about 1500 miles on it) with 7 oz of Motorkote. I can not tell any difference in the intensity or the frequency (RPM's) of the whine. The engine does seem to be running smoother and it sifts easier but no difference in the whine. My next oil change I will switch to synthetic motor oil and put about 8 more oz of Motorkote. Hopefully the clean oil and fresh Motorkote will do the trick. I did run the bike pretty hard to test the Motorkote to make sure it did not cause my clutch to slip since Motorkote is a friction modifier and no slipping.

The odometer is off also. Measure it with your GPS. I don't know how much it's off but lets say you ride 10 miles according to your odometer your GPS will be less.

The plastic lower right and left fairing are connected to the 1" chrome crash bars (engine guards to some) and the are mounted to the frame. In order to use the mounts you received from Carbon One you have to purchase a 1" clamp that goes around the 1" chrome crash bar and attaches to one of the mounts that Carbon One sent you. You have to drill a hole into your floor board mount bracket and secure the other end of the mount that Carbon one sent you. Do this for each side. And stop dropping that MM.

I have 13,000 on the rear and still have plenty of miles left on my E3's.
-
I don't think you can go wrong with the E3's. Of course I'm sure someone out there has had a bad experience with E3's I just have never heard of it. I was the first of our group to try E3's and now 4 of us ride them. Good luck with whatever you end up with. Harry

windshield left the bike at 50 mph
YamaDuck replied to chopper pilot's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Glad your alright. Another brand of windshield is a Show Chrome windshield. It is wider and lower than stock. Another windshield on the ebay market is Slip Streamer. I would stay away for that company. The seller states the windshield is warrantied but doesn't say how. I purchased a windshield from them and the holes did not line up so I asked him about the warranty and he said he didn't know that he didn't warranty it and he told me to contact Slp Streamer. I emailed them and they didn't answer. I eamiled them again and they told me they didn't warranty the windshield that someone else did and they would have them cantact me. Well they never did so I email Slip Streamer again and they will not answer my email. The Show Chrome fit fine though. I also have a Clearview that is very nice also.- 20 replies

IMHO the Dunlop 404 is a better tire than the Bridgestone (you got more miles out of the Bridgestone than most). The 404 is not a bad tire but it is basically an entry level tire like the Bridgestone but with better handling and a little better tire wear mileage. I have never ran the 404's so I'm telling you what most people told me about the 404. It is basically and OEM type tire. You can expect about 13,000 to 15,000 on the rear. Handling better than the Bridgestone. I was comparing the Avon's to the E3's before I bought my E3's. About 60% of the people I got feedback on chose the Avon's over the E3's but basicly everyone said they were both about equal tires. The Avon's were strating to get reports of sidewalls cracking and the E3's had no bad reports so I went with the E3's. If you go to the Dunlop website you can compare the 404's anf the E3's. The outside tire diameter the tread depth, etc. If I remember right I think the E3's have about 1/8" more tread depth than the 404's and I think that's why it gets so much better tire life. I talked to several VentureRiders at meet and eats that had over 18,000 mile on the rear and still going strong. The E3's look a lot like the Avon's and handle a lot like the Avon's from what I've been told. The E3's cost more than the 404's. A lot of people go with the 404's because they come in white walls and look good on Ventures. Some go with the price since they are cheaper than E3's. So IMHO trying to compare 404's (a good tire) with E3's (a great tire) is like comparing a Chevy Impala (a nice car) with a Chevy Corvette (a very nice car). I have talked 3 of my buddies into trying the E3's and they are all very very happy with them.

Two totally different tires. Your trying to compare apples to oranges with these two choices. IMHO

:sign yeah that:I have not ran either of the tires you mentioned for the reason Don mentioned. I have run both the Dunlop Elite 3's and the Michelin Commander's. Both are great tires and I am currently running both sets. The Michelin's are on my 2001 Venture and the E3's are on my 2000 Venture. I think the E3's handle a little better and in my opinion ride smoother than the Michelin's. I have not worn either tire out yet. They both look new to me. I have about 13,000 on my E3's right now and about 7,000 on the Michelin's. Someone at the Southeast Maintenance Day says he has over 40,000 on his E3's. That is unbelievable. I have heard quite a few people say they have over 20,000 on there E3's. The guy I bought my bike from says he only runs Michelin Commanders and he gets around 15,000 on his. As long as Dunlop doesn't have a quality issue develop on their E3's I will never put another brand of tire on my Ventures. I know this is not what you asked for but this is the best I could do.

Inexpensive rear shock
YamaDuck replied to remmertb's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Even though it is about $33 dollars more than the stock shock I have found if it is a much superior shock I don't mind the difference even though $500 for a shock is insane. I am interested if and when I need a shock. My biggest concerns are, 1) is the shock rebuildable and if so how much to rebuild and 2) what kind of warranty does it have? Thanks Harry- 26 replies

Sleeperhawk's Mechanic's April 2010 North GA M&E Pictures
YamaDuck replied to Sleeperhawks Mechanic's topic in Picture Folder
Thanks for the pictures. I hope George gets to feeling better. I have never passed kidney stones but my son passes them about every 8 to 10 months. I feel so sorry for him because there is nothing I can do. I had gall stones and I thought I was going to die. I had my gall bladder removed best thing I ever did. George is a real trooper going to maintenance day with kidney stones. It takes a special person to help others when they themselves are in such pain. -
Hi Mike, That really looks sharp. Nice ride.
