  1. Where you able to conect it so your intercom and CB all work together? If so how did you do it? Thanks
  2. Mine went out and I tightened and cleaned the battery connection and has worked fine ever since.
  3. Thanks for the heads up Gary. Rick at Buckeye Performance has one on the way to me. Thanks Rick!!
  4. Does anyone have or can tell me where to get a right side (clutch cover) Engine cover? I sure could use one. You can PM me if you like. Thanks!
  5. Does anyone have a side engine clutch cover they would like to sell for a 87 VR. I sure could use one. Thanks!!
  6. Thanks to all that have given advise. I am going to try a Barnett clutch plate from Buckeye Performance along with a new slave cyl. I will let you know what happens. Thanks!
  7. Just changed the oil in the 87 Venture and went for a short ride of about 20 miles. I used Yamalube 4 Stroke 15-40. Got out the driveway sped up and noticed a slight clutch slip in 4th gear. By the time I got back to the house it would barely pull up the smallest hill. The dealer assured me this was the "recommended oil" from Yamaha. Any body had problems like this and these wet clutches? You would think that if it were a Yamaha product it would work. There is no engineers stamp on the back just a stamp that says MA and a circle around it. I know this has been a huge topic here on which oil to use but I figured going with brand specific oil with Yamaha's name on it would be good. What should I do? Thanks!
  8. Thanks I will let yall (from the south) know how it goes. Thanks for the ideas!
  9. I am going to replace fuel filter, air filter, and plugs. Also, I will check the slides to make sure they are not stuck. When they do stick what is the best way to unstick? Carb cleaner? Thanks!!
  10. I had replaced the diaphrams recently. What would cause those slides to stick? What should I do? Thanks!
  11. Does anyone know what would cause an '87 VR to red line in 2nd gear at 65 mph but not get above 4500rpm and 75 mph in 5th gear. It does sputter a little around 6000 rpm but will recover up to the red line. I normally don't do this to the engine but was trying to blow out the jets in the carbs after 2 cans of Sea Foam run through her this past year. It runs great but just a little slugesh in high gear. Any insight would be great and I just got carbs sync. this weekend. Is this normal? THANKS!!!
  12. Thanks, I will check these things out! Thanks for the help!!
  13. Just wanted to see what the Venture Nation thought about the top speed for a 87 venture would be. I have been driving mine around town and on trips not over 300 miles round trip but the other day I was on the interstate and could only get her up to 80 MPH. This is plenty fast enough and I very rarely want to exceed 70 MPH but was wondering if my slides/ Diaphragms or carbs are out of sink. What do ya'll think? The bike has about 30000 miles on her and idles, starts quick and runs fine. At high RPM there is some sputtering when in low gear and getting the tach up high. Thanks!!!
  14. How about the trailer hitch. I need one. Please PM me. Thanks!
  15. Yes, I also have the boards and the heal/toe shifter. Maybe I will look into the seat issue this winter. Thanks!
  16. MY '87 VENTURE HAS A HEAL/TOE SHIFTER ON IT AND A CUSTOM SEAT AND I FIND WY LEGS ARE BENT BACK UNDER ME WHEN I SHIFT OR USE BREAK PEADLE. THE SEAT MAKES ME SIT ALMOST ON THE GAS TANK AND PUTS THOSE CONTROLS UNDER ME. I HAVE A 30" INSEAM BUT I AM 6' TALL. Any IDEAS??? THANKS!
  17. Has anyone had a drive train lockup while in motion on a 1st. generation? Or a brake lock up that caused loss of control. Mine is ok but getting age on it. Bike runs great and I am starting to venture on longer trips and may end up on a several week trip next year. The scoot is a 87 venture with 35000 miles on her. Every thing works great. Ideas??? Thanks!!
  18. Ok Jack! This is fun!! Lets seeeee! The Swammy says 25:pushups:
  19. Has anyone heard of a weight restriction on a 87VR. My son is still playing football (O Line) and keeps getting bigger. Together we are at 540 LBS. What can the bike handle. I am very strong and can handle the weight of the bike with the added passenger weight. I am just concerned about the bike and frame and coming apart at a bad time! What do ya'll think. I know, loose weight big guy but I still eat like I did when I played football. Oh the battle of the bulge.
  20. What you need to do is make a wire(4"x2" dog wire) cage about 2 1/2-3' in diameter and 5' tall. Stake it down tight to the ground and this will protect the terminal bud once you get it above the deer feeding level you will be ok. Good luck!
  21. Dah!!! I did hit the mute button and that is what it was. I didnt pay any attention to that mute button but know I know how it is to be used. A big thanks to all that had ideas and I will look into those ideas you all sent. Thanks again:big-grin-emoticon:
  22. The radio on the 87VR has lost alot of vol. It will not get very loud. Any ideas????
  23. I have used my ratchet straps connected to my crash guards that protect the engine. It does'nt grab the bike as high as I would like but holds it in place very well. Make sure you tie it low to the floor to get the best angle. Driven over 1000 miles that way. Good luck!
  24. Be careful!!! There may be some engine blowby on those cylinders and may shoot oil out the filler tube if not sealed off tight. Good Luck!!!
