  1. The threaded insert in the end of the bars is actually spot welded in. There is no way to get it out without grinding the spot weld off and pretty much ruining the bars. I did that when I installed the Flanders bars on my '99. I ground down the spot weld to remove the insert and used it in my flanders bars. Here's a link that shows it pretty well. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11122
  2. OK folks, this is the last call. I'm going to give this through the weekend and then total up all the sizes and etc. and get them ordered on Monday. Don't miss out. This IS the first ever official Freebird's Maintenance Day shirt. Own a piece of VentureRider History. These will be VERY expensive once one of them ends up in the Smithsonian.
  3. OK folks...I think I'm going to pull the plug on this one. I got a response but now they want to add $3.00 per bag for our logo. I had already started figuring the total cost and by the time I pay the shipping to get them to me and then package them all up and ship them out to you and now the extra for the logo, there is no longer a discount to be had but a LOT of work. I just don't think it's worth it.
  4. OK folks...I THINK I'm done. Let me know if you see anything that is not working correctly. Thanks for your patience.
  5. Should work now. I've just finished MOST of the update. Just have a few templates to modify.
  6. OK folks...I am going to have to update the software here to address some recently discovered security holes. I am getting ready to do it now so if you see some minor hiccups...don't panic. I will be panicking enough for all of us.
  7. The more I hear of this the more it irritates me. I have heard 3 different stories as to WHY they are canceling these rooms. If anybody wishes to file a complaint, I would encourage you to do so. Here is a link to the complaint page of the BBB for this area. https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/getstarted.aspx?siteID=78
  8. Yea, that may be it. OK folks....46 bells remaining.
  9. Folks...I do not pretend to be an attorney...but...I've done a little research on this and this is what I've read. If you call have a confirmation only...then they can for a valid reason cancel it. BUT...if you have a reservation that you used a credit card to SECURE then they are guilty of breach of contract if they cancel. It is one of those things that is typically not taken to court because the amount of money involved is not worth it but there are laws about this sort of thing.
  10. It looks very similar to the Honky trailer. http://www.honkytrailer.com/
  11. OK folks...I just ordered 50 more bells. You will find the ordering information in the thread linked in my first post.
  12. Here you go: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=489
  13. That's strange. I talked to him last yesterday afternoon and he told me that we are losing 10 rooms. Would be nice if we could get a consistent answer. I've also heard three different explanations as to why they are being canceled.
  14. Thanks....maybe I actually did it right in some cases.
  15. Folks, I'm getting quiet a few PMS and emails asking when your memberships expire. Most of you can click on "UserCP" in the menu bar and then scroll down until you see "Paid Subscriptions" in the left menu. Click on that and it will tell you when your subscription expires. I THINK that only works for those of you who went through that link to pay. If you mailed your dues and I had to do it manually, I'm not sure it will display the dates. Those of you who got in close to the beginning of the process will be coming due primarily between the middle and end of April. Assuming that they system works correctly, you should get email notifications if you subscribed through that link. Renewals can be done at anytime you wish.
  16. Well....I will acknowledge that there is some truth to your statement, I still think the guy is a bonehead. I mean come on....blue lights..police cars....that really should be SOME clue that there you may need to watch where you are going. Now...that is NOT to say that I haven't done some bonehead things myself and if I were that driver...I would be saying to myself...YEP...I am a BONEHEAD.
  17. Yes, that is the same person. I didn't even ask her to do anything about my tire. I told her that I had not written to them in order to get any compensation for my tire but that I was just concerned about what I am seeing and others are reporting. Mine aren't bad and I may even be able to wear them out before the cracks get bad enough to concern me. I just honestly feel that there is a problem and like you, I really do like the performance of these tires and was just hoping that they would actually listen and take steps to correct the issue. The bottom line is that if I had no other good choices in tires, I would buy another set of Avons and not be terribly worried about this but we DO have other choices. The Michelin Commander is a very good choice and though I've not used them, we are hearing good reports on the Dunlop E III also. I really do like the Avon but don't find it to be so heads and shoulders above the Michelin that I would buy them again unless I know that the cracking issue has been resolved.
  18. WOW...I'm just not sure...but they are certainly different. I guess I would need to see them in person. Now if there was a TRIGGER for dealing with tailgaters...now that would be cool.
  19. Well....I'll just take numbers 94 and 101. Neither are the favorite that I have seen of those models but they would do.
  20. Go to this page. http://www8.garmin.com/vehicles/ In the right column it lists models that are voice compatible. Appears to be only some, maybe all, of the Nuvi series.
  21. I've pretty much been sold out of VentureRider Guardian bells for a while now. I actually had a handful put back just in case but they are gone now. So...I'm certainly in no hurry to order more of them if you all have what you want but if there is any demand, I will order more at any time. Just let me know. Here is a link to them if any of you don't know what I'm talking about. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17406
  22. NOTE that this will not work for all Garmin units. The Zumo 550 is NOT voice compatible and many others aren't also.
  23. I agree with your questions and as I said, I was not satisfied with her responses. She said that the change was made about 2 years ago and I already see some date codes that fall within the past year. I am also not at all convinced that ANY of the things listed in the tech bulletin are causing the cracking because I treat these tires no differently than any other tires I've owned and have not seen the cracking problem. I was very courteous to her but the last thing I told her was that I thought that they still have a problem and that I wouldn't be recommending their tires to our members again until I know that the problem has been addressed.
  24. Yesterday I sent an email to Avon tire in regards to the cracking sidewall problems. Today I received a call from the corporate office in Stow, OH. It was a fairly lengthy conversation. The call was from a very nice lady with the title of Sales and Marketing Manager. I had told her in my email that within our organization, the Avon was by far the most recommended tire for our bikes. I explained to her though that there had been numerous reports of the cracking sidewalls and that many of us are no longer recommending their tires for the Yamaha Ventures and Royal Stars. Her response was that a couple of years ago, there was a change in the way the tires are poured and that she hasn't heard of any problems since that time. I don't know if that makes sense or not because though there is a current survey, there has not been enough input yet to really get a feel for the dates. I also suspect that many of the tires are long destroyed so there is no way of us getting those dates. She told me that they recognize it as a problem if they see a return rate of more than 1/2% on any specific model or even size tire. She said that she saw this go to about 1% before the change was made in how the tires are poured but it seems to have been OK since then. I told her that I am not convinced that the problem has been resolved. She then went into the usual spill about all the things that can cause a tire to split. I responded to that by telling here that my bike has been stored in the same garage with various tires for about 10 years and that the Avon is the only one that has exhibited this problem. The conversation was friendly but I didn't feel that anything was resolved. She did send me the following document that explains some of the things that might cause the problem as well as some other information. Most of it is common sense but there may be a few things that you will find interesting.
  25. Probably not a bad idea....but I'm also not finished...uh...discussing this...with the Oberlin Inn. I am very disappointed in this. I want a better explanation of why the rooms are being canceled. If it is due to an unforeseen issues that are requiring that the rooms be taken out of service, that is one thing. If they are taking them away to give to some other group, I am going to be slightly hot under the collar. I hope that is not the case. My wife says that people don't like me when I get mad.
