  1. Well, I understand where you are coming from but actually a LOT of folks buy new bikes. If not, where you have found the used one? I bought my '99 brand new in April or May of '99. I paid $14,445.00 for it out the door. As for whether or not I would buy a new one, I don't know for sure. Money is a little tight and I don't know that I could justify it but if it has all the features that I would want in an updated model, I would sure give it some thought. I figure that my bike buying days are coming close to an end. I MAY buy one more bike and will then expect it to last me until I am done riding. If I do that, I would kind of like for it to be a new one.
  2. Had a flat on the trailer about 3 weeks ago. I think I can plug it though.
  3. Folks, I have copied this thread to the International Rally Forum and closed this one. I want to thank the 2013 Committee for getting off to such a GREAT start. This is going to be a fantastic rally and I certainly plan to be there. It is a long time until then though and this thread will get lost in the watering hole. I have moved it to the Rally section where it will always be on top. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=72568
  4. Well, they are very similar in regards to programming. I actually have both. I have Dish Network in my main house and Direct TV in my guest house. I actually prefer the Dish Network. I like the menus and etc. MUCH better. Now it may just be because I use the Dish Network more and am more familiar with it. As for reception and etc., I think that one is as good as the other.
  5. I wasn't sure that I understood so had to watch it a couple of times.
  6. You are actually backwards on that. I am assuming that he will have to use some type of voltage reducer to get it down to the needed 5 volts. If it did indeed run on 12 volts though, the amps/watts could actually be less, not three times more.
  7. Well, the first link didn't work. I posted the second link myself. I went to it a couple of times and watched the video in it's entirety. I got no warnings of any kind and nothing was installed on my computer. I use Norton Antivirus and it detected no problem. After reading your post, I scanned my system with the latest version of Malwarebytes and then the latest version of IOBit Malware fighter and neither found any malware of any kind. So, I don't know why it affected you and not me but I'm sorry if that link caused it.
  8. OK...because I would rather err on the side of caution, I have deleted the post. I can say though that I visited the link and did NOT pick up any kind of malware.
  9. An easier way to do that is to simply click on "Thread Tools" and then "subscribe to this thread" from that drop down menu.
  10. I have to be honest. If Yamaha tries to push a new Venture based upon the Stratoliner and etc., I will not be a customer. I have sat on and rode that bike and though it is nice, it is not for me. If I end up having to choose between a V-Twin touring bike, a V-Twin Yamaha Venture would be probably 4th on my list. The top three would be between Harley, Kawasaki and Victory, not necessarily in that order. On a recent demo ride of the Voyager, I found it to be a much better fit for me than the Stratoliner. The only way I would consider a new Venture would be one based upon a V-4 engine. Otherwise, there are a lot of good choices out there. I honestly think that would be a HUGE mistake on Yamaha's part. I hope they are smarter than that. I probably should be more specific. I can't say that a Yamaha would not be in the running. If they built an entirely new bike around that V-Twin engine, then I would take another look before making a decision. What I'm saying though is if they just add a fairing, bags, trunk and etc. to the Stratoliner in it's current configuration, ergonomics, etc., I would not be a customer.
  11. I agree. I wouldn't be concerned at all. You should be good to go.
  12. It is impossible to answer that question without knowing what other accessories you are running. If that is all, then it should be no problem at all.
  13. I love it. That is a mean looking trike that I would be proud to ride. I think you have done a great job. As for the carbs. I will defer to some of our first gen owners who are much better at them than I am. If I had to guess though, I would probably change the jets to the stock size for the '83.
  14. It all depends on how large of one you start with. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtqyPrTI3yE]The Weirdest Video You Will Ever See - YouTube[/ame]
  15. I would absolutely replace the gaskets. They are now 7 years old. There is every likelihood that they have hardened some over the years. It's way too much trouble to have to tear it down again later to replace them if they leak.
  16. I don't think that anybody should help you unless you post pictures first.
  17. Those ads are served by Google. They are supposed to be somewhat motorcycle related but are not always. I submitted certain keywords for the ad server but beyond that, I do not have control over the individual ads. I appreciated the feedback and by all means, if somebody sees one that they know is not a good business, feel free to point it out.
  18. While Owen states that he did not post this as a political thread, that is clearly what it is becoming. This one will likely go away very soon.
  19. OK...I found the bike that I was thinking of but the scenario is opposite. It has a bias tire on the front and a radial on the rear. It is the Yamaha Raider. There may be others too but this is the one that I had in mind. This is from the Yamaha website. "Custom 5-spoke wheels carry a 120/70-21-inch bias tire up front, and a wide, 210/40-18 radial out back—the tallest and widest ever on a Star."
  20. I've never mixed a bias with a radial. I just always kind of figured that our bikes were engineered to run with the bias tires. I do remember somebody posting here though that Yamaha actually sells one of their bikes with a radial on the front and a bias on the rear. I don't remember now which bike it was though. I guess I would be OK with it if the weight capacity and etc. was adequate.
  21. For anybody interested, Diamond R sells them in polished stainless steel with stainless steel brackets. Very nice.
  22. I agree with Goose. I've tried the Iridiums and in fact, they are installed now. I see no advantage at all though.
  23. For Sale? You couldn't GIVE me that thing.
  24. Just got a text message from Ponch. He send me some pictures from a place, restaurant or something, named "Freebirds". It was pretty cool. What was REALLY cool though was just hearing from Ponch. I sure miss that guy. He included a message that he misses all of us too.
  25. It was just a bug in the program a few years ago that caused those numbers to get screwed up. No big deal.
