  1. I will visit the weld shop tomorrow and see if he can follow these directions. Sounds like it will work. But wouldn't it be easier to weld some small metal shims around the collar of the receiver tube to get a nice tight fit when the shank is inserted. If so, wouldn't have to bother with tightening and loosening the "setscrew" What do you think? Thanx again for your time and advice. Jerry
  2. Glad to know I have been talking to the right person. Dray is included in the members of this site I thanked at the top of this thread. He has provided me a great deal of valuable insight into my build. It was through Dray that I obtained the hitch coupler. The machinist that made his had made an extra one and I purchased that one from him. Jerry
  3. Hello Brian. Thanx for all of your assistance and as always, you are right on the money with the slack discussion. I guess-timate there is about 3-10 degrees of movement in the hitch with the trailer mounted to the bike. I know that some movement is a good thing, but this may need some reduction. Thought about welding some metal spacers on the hitch receiver to reduce movement. What would you suggest? If I can, I will post a video clip of the movement and you can tell me if you think it needs a fix. Thanx again, Jerry
  4. No problem, Barry. I took quite a few pics of my build in progress and have posted some of them on the delphi motorcycle trailer towing forum. This link should get you there and to my photobucket album. Also included in the thread is a link to the torsion axle I used. http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTrailertowing/messages?msg=7435.1 I don't think you have to be a member to view the thread. But if you have a problem, let me know and I will put photobucket link here. I planned on posting entire build experience in one thread on this forum, as soon as I had the finishing touches completed. Should be all settled in next couple of days. Jerry
  5. Thanx to the help of several venturerider members and the delphi motorcycle trailer forum, I am in the final stages of my single wheel trailer build. The trailer consists of a plastic Delta Truck Toolbox bolted onto a Milwaukee hand truck with 250# rated torsion axle and 8" wheel. It weighs approximately 90# (empty) and is 100 inches in total length (hitch to end of fender). I expect when fully loaded with my expected cargo, it will weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 160-180#. The total trailer height is approx. 34 inches and the width is 20 inches, so it tucks neatly behind the bike. I have given it several test rides and it pulls effortlessly and tracks as advertised with the bike. Recently I read the following post on delphi forum: "With all the folks that seem to be building or thinking about building 1 wheel trailers, something came to mind that I thought I would mention for those to give some thought to. If you are going to tow a 1 wheel please make sure your hitch is up to the task. A 1 wheel will inpart forces on the hitch that a 2 wheel does not. Please make sure your hitch choice can handle the twist forces that a 1 wheel applys to the hitch. Most hitches I have seen are made to pull a 2 wheel and may not work safely with a 1 wheel the way they come. Now some may be fine and others may need to be modified a bit to make them safe." I have a Venturedad hitch on my 2000 RSV and after each test ride it appeared to remain straight and secure upon visual inspection. My question to those who have experience pulling single wheels or those with other inside info., is this hitch up to task of pulling a single wheel trailer or what modification may be needed to make it so. My limited knowledge says I am OK, however, I would like the opinions of others with more experience and knowledge on the subject. Thanx, Jerry
  6. Both sets will be on their way to sleeperhawk's tomorrow. Thanx again for helping me out, George. Jerry
  7. Double thank you, Condor. I found some J&M headsets very reasonably priced. Good looking out. Jerry
  8. I got word through this or some other forum that a mainstay in our area, Chicago Sports & Cycle was closing its doors and an auction was scheduled for Saturday. It started at 9 am, however, I couldn't get there until shortly after 10:00. Unfortunately missed out on the many cases of Yamalube and other shop fluids they were selling. But got there in time for what I was most interested in...J&M headsets (new in box). Since they were selling in bulk, I had to buy a box w/ 5 units even though I only needed two. I am going to have two (2) extras which I will make available on this forum before selling on ebay. I believe one is full face (part #HS-ECD584-FF) and the other flip front or modular (part # HS-ECD584-FL), both retailing for $229.99. I am attaching pix of those for anyone interested. Will take any rsble offer, plus shipping. PM if interested. CS&C was a Yamaha, Honda, Suz & Kaw dealer which also sold other powersports equipment. Because they were selling items in bulk containers, I had to buy many items I did not need in order to get items I wanted. However, most of those bulk lots were rsbly. cheap and once I go through all of the boxes I will put together a list of what I have to sell or give away to VR members. I will then update this thread or post elsewhere if more appropriate. There are only a few items that are specifically related to the Venture, and many miscellaneous motorcycle & ATV-related items. Jerry
  9. Got mine too. Thanx again, Jerry
  10. Try this: http://www.venturedad.com/RSV%20hitch.htm
  11. If you are planning on attending the show, Trailmaster posted this on Delphi's Motorcyle Trailer Towing forum: Aspen Campers will be displaying at this weekend's (Friday, Feb 19th - Sunday, Feb 21st) Cycle World International Motorcycle Show at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. In addition to our display at the show, we will also be having an Open House and Plant Tour at our final assembly facility in Wood Dale, IL (only a short 15 minutes from the show). On Saturday and Sunday we will be running a FREE shuttle between our plant and the motorcycle show for anyone interested in seeing our complete Aspen Camper product line (Sentry, Classic & Ambassador). For more information, please go to www.Trailmasterinc.com or call 1-800-398-9090. http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTrailertowing/messages/?msg=7442.1 Several persons on mtt forum stated that they took advantage of their offer last year and it was seamless. You can park in their plant parking lot for free and take their free shuttle to and from the IMS at the Stephens' Convention Center. I plan to take advantage of it on tomorrow. Jerry
  12. Good looking out, Gary. PP sent for one.
  13. Right on SilvrT. I started from the outside. I used a 1/8 inch drill bit as a starter hole then enlarged it with a 7/32 inch bit, without going all the way through. Just enough to make a crater in the housing that allowed the 5/8 inch bit to fit more securely into the starter hole without sailing across the surface. BTW, the housing is not 100% plastic but it is some type of plastic/metal composite. At least the shavings felt like there was some metal in it. Slow steady pressure should have the hole completed in a couple of minutes. Another BTW for Cougar--I looked for yellow but the only colors they had at Radio Shack were red and green. My light has an orange hue because of the yellow/red mix of the turn signal and the marker lens.
  14. I ran across this neat little idea on Delphi Forums (DIY Cruiser Forum) and thought it was an easy and inexpensive way to possibly enhance our visual presence on the road. The Radio Shack part cost 2.39 each and was the only cost associated with this modification. Here is the link that contains the pdf instructions for performing this mod. I do not know if you have to be a delphi forum member to read their posts, but if you have any problems accessing it, let me know and I will see about posting the copy I downloaded. Attached are several pix of the mod on MyPalomino. http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=DIYCruisers&msg=11.1
  15. I'm in for one too. PayPal at the ready. Thanx. Jerry
  16. When I purchased MyPalomino she had this small analog clock attached to the dashboard (near left speaker) with double-sided tape. It has held without any problem and is very easy to see, except at night. It does not have any backlight features. OK with me because I try not to do a lot of night riding. Replaced the battery one time. It must be waterproof because bike has seen plenty of rain. Later on, I'll go out to the garage and see if I can get the manufacturer's name.
  17. That was what I was thinking and since I keep my forks set at 7 (1 up or 2), I only need the pump for rear shock adjustment and checking tire pressure.
  18. This seller has listing for multiple units of the Progressive Suspension GP3 Pump for $22.00 OBO plus $3.00 shipping. I offered $17 and he countered at $20. I purchased the pump and received it quickly. I have not had an opportunity to use it yet, but it feels solid. He says he has 19 available. 19. A color matched Bike Buddy trailer for the fishing trips w/ MyPalomino. http://www.bikebuddys.com/
  20. I love grilling and eating grilled food. One day at the Weber Grill restaurant in Chicago, I tasted their BBQ meat loaf. It was good but not as good as the one my wife makes using ground turkey. That when I got the inspiration to BBQ her version. She normally starts with 3lbs of ground turkey, so the following recipe is based upon that quantity. Naturally, you could make a smaller or larger amount. You can also substitute beef, venison or other ground meat of your choice. Meat Loaf 3 lbs. ground turkey 2 sleeves of Ritz crackers ground coarsely into crumbs Seasoning salt or salt (to taste) 1 box (containing 2 foil packets) of Lipton Onion Soup Mix 2 green peppers...or as many as your taste desires (diced or sliced) 3 eggs Fold the ground turkey with these ingredients in a mixing bowl until the eggs, crumbs and seasonings have thoroughly mixed with the meat. Next form the meat mixture into a loaf and place in an aluminum pan suitable for placing upon a grill and cover with aluminum foil. Prepare your grill for indirect cooking, i.e., cooking the meat away from the burning coals, as you don't want the meat to cook too fast. Place the pan containing the meat loaf away from the fire but in the heat flow. If you maintain 300-320 degree setting the meat should be firm enough to cut in approx. 45 minutes. While the meat loaf is cooking, you can prepare the BBQ sauce. Use your favorite BBQ sauce or try the sauce recipe we use: 32 oz. of Kraft BBQ sauce (I like the Thick & Spicy variety) 2 tablespoons of reconstituted lemon juice 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar Crushed red pepper (to taste) A hint of yellow mustard (approx. 1 tablespoon, if like a little tang) When it is firm enough, remove the meat loaf from the heat and cut into slices. Now place the individual slices upon the grill for direct cooking over the coals and coat with BBQ sauce on both sides. Amount of time on grill depends upon you, but I like to keep it there until the sauce is sort of pasted to the meat. (Usu. less than 5 mins. each) As the individual slices are cooked to your liking, place them upon a clean aluminum pan. Once all the slices have been grilled and re-formed into a loaf in the clean pan you can pour on more sauce, cover the pan with foil once again and place it back on the grill for another 10-20 minutes of indirect cooking/simmering. Remove from grill and enjoy. It just so happens that when I read this thread on Christmas Day, we were grilling a loaf for my wife's hairdresser's Christmas dinner, so I took a few pix to attach to this post. No green peppers, however, as she doesn't eat them. I hope I did not forget anything. As I said, I love BBQ, and this has been my favorite BBQ dish for almost 15 years.
  21. We are praying for a miracle for you & Charlene. Know that Jesus' authority far exceeds that of Blue Cross.
  22. I check in daily, even when away from home, unless no internet access. Just about every visit, I learn something new and useful...for MyPalomino, my life or both. Thanx again, family. I hope to match a lot of faces to forum names at Potato Creek this summer and thank you in person. Jerry
  23. Looks like the mistake was mine. Thanks dragerman. Upon closer review, I see that there is a bluetooth and non-bluetooth version of this helmet, with different item numbers. Webbikeworld review didn't even mention a non-bluetooth version, but I forgot the first rule of comparison shopping...if it sounds too good to be true.... Guess I got Black Friday syndrome. I have cancelled the order. Fortunately, MC Superstore is a reputable company to do business with and I used PayPal.
  24. I had been looking for a rsbly. priced bluetooth helmet and was particularly drawn to the Vemar CKQI, which was given pretty favorable review on WebbikeWorld. For weeks, Motorcycle Superstore had the best advertised price on the helmet at $319.00 so imagine my surprise when I went to the following site and found that same helmet was on special sale from Motorcycle Superstore for $200.00. http://automotive.become.com/vemar-ckqi-motorcycle-helmet--compare-prices--sc779650867 If you go directly to MC Superstore site, it is still priced at the $319.00. I don't know if it was a mistaken listing, but the order has been placed and approved. Anyone interested in going wireless might consider this helmet. Jerry
