  1. Regarding the switch....yes it returns to center position and this latches the relay to power cruise for that ride.....as soon as the ignition switch is shut off, the relay opens. You have to rock the switch far right (with key ON) to relatch it next ride you want to use cruise.
  2. The RSV has a couple fuse boxes.....the cruise control fuse is in one in the right hand (as you sit on bike) lower fairing that surrounds radiator. It should be a 10 amp and is labelled C/C.
  3. You might want to just verify all is good on the power in and ground out on the display...maybe the connections are poor. Power in should be the brown on the larger connector to display, ground is the black on the smaller plug.
  4. So they can't be registered in those 2 states....if you are out of state registered can you operate it inside CT and TX?
  5. Rodney.... is the tachometer staying steady to road speed when you encounter the miss. Can you run up the rpm and test voltage at TCI to ensure power supply remains good. Might also fire up bike at night...rev it up...watch for arcing from coils or wires. Not the first Venture to have cracks on the coils.
  6. Doug.... as I mentioned, when Yamaha brought out the RSV (2nd gen) they went back to separate flashers (turn and hazard) and a separate SCCR. I'd be surprised they reverted back to that all in one setup again, but don't have access to other wiring schematics.
  7. So you are using the lock on forward end of saddlebag, correct. Unlock, and move bag straight backwards then you lift it off. You will see the 2 pins that stick out of the case to engage into mounts.
  8. Which newer bikes, Doug? Yamaha combined these units on the 84-93 Venture. The RSV (99-2013) had separate flasher rleays and separate SCCR and never used LED bulbs. I guess if the lighting quality thing is your prime reason you could add resistance to mimic the stock bulbs and the system will be happy....if its power saving and using another flasher relay you would be doing some harness splicing.
  9. The combo SCCR/flasher/canceller relay has 9 wires...should be near the headlight. On the turn signal switch you will need power on the Yellow/Red (normally from the canceller) to hold the switch contacts in the desired position, pushing in the switch opens the ground to release them.
  10. Doug... okay.... the starter relay by the battery is what you commonly would call a starter solenoid on a car. The starter circuit cutoff relay is a different animal.....it powers the starter button circuit only if the interlocks are satisfied....ie clutch switch when in gear, sidestand up in gear etc.
  11. Emergency stop switch has 2 wires....main harness, Black, Black/White....switch wires Black, Black. If the switch is dangling you can have good ignition one minute....bump chassis and have no ignition next. heres what it looks like... 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale Emergency Stop Tipover Switch Relay Unit | eBay
  12. Above the headlight are several relays.....ensure they are all securely plugged in......also look at the emergency stop switch ("tip over switch") in that same area....I will check schematic for wire colors....it must be securely sitting in its rubber sleeve and mounted in its frame tang (the sleeve reads UPPER) as tilting the switch cuts off ignition.
  13. From what I recall, the 1983 model had the separate turn signal flasher from the starting circuit cutoff relay, along with a separate hazard flasher and a separate csnceller relay. 83.5 and up it was combined. The turn signal switch wiring would I believe require modification if you did away with the canceller....ie to hold your signal on since it returns to center position.
  14. Not sure if you rechecked the stator to ground test yet. The other variable that is part of the system is the regulator plug....there have been cases of poor terminal contact. Is the plastic around the female plug terminals in good condition or is there any evidence of overheating.
  15. Ray... regarding the stator resistance....I touch the test probes together first to find resistance of test equipment, then that reading is subtracted from your stator resistance tests.
  16. Test the battery voltage running and then test running voltage after the ignition fuse on the wire.
  17. There have been a few cases where a poor ground point was used in the stator winding test, giving a false Open circuit reading. I would redo the winding to ground test, using the battery negative cable for ground and doing the test after bike ran till fan has kicked on so the stator is still hot.
  18. Yamaha starting installing zerks on the 1990 Venture, but they are only on the relay arms that connect monoshock to swing arm, not the swing arm bushings themselves.
  19. Kevin.... finally checked the sticker....... mine was the 1VE ending in 000217.....build date 11/85.
  20. 2 new ones on ebay.... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NOS-Yamaha-Rear-Footrest-Cover-1998-2001-XVZ1300-4YE-27433-00-/190887314229#ht_416wt_738
  21. Since you have the rear wheel off, you would be wise to manually grease the driveshaft splines (the grease zerk was ineffective)and service the hub pins in the rear wheel.
  22. The problem is those that have greased the coupler (86-up) have to clean out the grease to allow the ports to flow and return oil.
  23. If you have the factory service manual, or have access to one online...go to SPECS> CABLE ROUTING pages....they show where the grounding points are located.
