Introduction and questions about my new (almost) ride RSV Millennium
Gary N. replied to 9Grenzen's topic in Watering Hole
Welcome, One thing you may want to do is check for loose bolts. Every bolt you can see. The shifter bolt is a common one to fall off. All of the bolts holding the rear fender and trunk brackets. Saddle bag lid bolts. Trunk hinge brackets. Always use a bit of "BLUE" Loctite too. Except on bolts going into plastic parts. -
I've had the same issue with my J&M headsets. The patch cord between the bike connector and the helmet is the weak link, especially on the standard sets sold by Yamaha. Also the newer style J&Ms have connectors so that you can replace each component individually. ie: the mic, and/or helmet speakers. If yours is like that try taking each connector in the helmet apart and back together a few times to make sure they are clean and tight. If you can find someone with a known good head set you need to try that. Someone with a Goldwing set will work too. If you determine that the patch cord is bad you can buy a replacement from http://www.sierra-mc.com/ . They are great people to deal with and if you go there they'll for sure be able to solve your problem. They are just off I-75 in Troy Ohio.

I've had my RSV over 12000 feet in Colorado and other then a little popping on deceleration it ran great.

Well, they're not stock so depending on how they write the law, maybe/probably. Stay out of the throttle in the city or populated areas and don't ask for trouble. My Bubs are quiet when I need them to be.

And when the chrome comes off the tips you can use Harley tips.

You need proof of citizenship. Passports are best and necessary to get back into the States now, since 9/11. No inspections are required on your bike or other equipment. Remember no weapons allowed. Bring a hand gun and you'll get free accommodations. October can be a little cool in the Ottawa area but doable. I'd bump the trip up a few weeks if possible. September should be good. There's lots to see and do in that area. Proof of ownership and insurance is all that is required for your bike but only if you get pulled over for a traffic infraction.

If anyone is interested, this skill riding competition at the Aylmer OPP Police College is open to the public and free to attend. The advanced riders will compete on Sat. Aug. 11 starting a 9:00 am. I know some guys that will be in the competition and have seen what they can do. Sounds like a fun day. Check out some of the video in the attached link. http://www.glpmts.com/2012-registered-police-services.html

Just read this interesting article about the Windsor ON police force making the switch to Victory Police bikes at a $7000.00/bike savings. They are the first force in Canada to do this. Some of the comments are interesting too. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/story/2012/07/18/wdr-victory-harley-davidson-motorcycles-windsor.html

Welcome to the site. As far as power goes the Wing will always beat out both the RSV and HD. The RSV will always beat out a stock HD. Kind of rock paper scissors thing..LOL. If you like the riding position on the HD you shouldn't have a problem with the RSV. I can't handle the riding position on the Wing due to knee problems and my wife prefers the back seat on the RSV. Comfort of the seat is a relative thing. Some butts like some don't. Seat height on the RSV is probably higher then the HD so if you're height challenged that could be a problem but fixable. Hope this helps a little. Let us know what you decide.

I know your pain. May the good memories of the last 45 years help you get through this tough time. -
LOL... no more hand pump for water either eh Brad. House is looking great. They did a lot of work in the last month. I see you even have grass to cut.

Been there, done that and would do it again in a heart beat. Have fun and be careful. Watch out in the construction zones. They can go on for miles and can be treacherous. I did it on the RSV and was advised to only do the top of the world hwy. if it was dry and it was but it rained hard when we got to Dawson City and we heard that three culverts got washed out on the TWH. If you can work it in the ride from Dawson City to Whitehorse is awesome. At Whitehorse you can get a one day bus trip to take the narrow gauge railroad to Skagway. Well worth the time if you can do it.

You said it! Good luck with the healing.

Try a little vinager and water Joe.

If so you may be over filling the crankcase. Never fill over 1/2 way of the sight glass with the bike sitting level.

I think you'll find that your rear valve cover is leaking. My bike has the oilly kick stand as well and I've traced it up to the valve cover.

Congratulations and best wishes for many more.

Another fuel pump question
Gary N. replied to TEW47's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Kent, is there a simple way to tell if the aftermarket pump we buy has this positive cutoff? Maybe remove the hoses and try blowing through with the key turned off? Or removing the carb side hose from the pump and turning the petcock on to see if fuel flows?- 13 replies

Another fuel pump question
Gary N. replied to TEW47's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If there was gas in the bowls it should have fired up. The fuel pump relay times out after about 10 seconds or so if the engine doesn't start. If you can bypass the pump and get the motor running the pump should run continuously. If it doesn't then it's gone bad. I just replaced mine with one from Car Quest. Part number 41501. A little work to get it mounted but a lot less money than the one form Yamaha.- 13 replies
