Well they had a big meeting with the family and doctors at the hospital. The options were; 1. A series of at least 9 surgeries spread out over the next 12-18 months and continuous physical therapy, with a very poor prognosis for a functional foot at the end. 2. Remove the leg. Ken is now minus his right leg. They had to remove it just below the knee. They also just discovered 2 cracked vertebra and 2 damaged disks in his back, this is not expected to have long term effects.

Winters knocking..what are your plans for the bike this winter?
Flyinfool replied to 1BigDog's topic in Watering Hole
My plans for winter in order. 1. Ride till the snow is too deep to be able to get the bike out of the shed. 2. Build my receiver hitch. 3. Build accessories for new receiver. 4. Build trailer to pull. 5. Add 2nd bad boy horn. 6. Add more lights to bike. If time and budget allow # 5 may turn into replacing bad boy air horn with real train horn. I also like Kens #8 above, dechromeing. I hate chrome. (flame suit on) -
Coolant bypass valve
Flyinfool replied to DesertRider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK, I'll jump in here to. Last fall I put in skydocs kit and now that it is getting cold at night I have the infamous cold drip again. This morning there was an AF spot about 2 feet by 3 feet. at the front of the bike. It only looses about 2 or 3 oz per week, but it is annoying. It only leaks on my floor, never a drop leaks at work sitting all day after a 20 mile ride. 20 miles back home and there will be the puddle by morning. Usually it is just a few drops. It was just this morning with the big spot, but not a single drop at work again today. All I can think of is to get another oring, and polish the bore. -
Lots of good info here and first hand experiences to go with them. Keep it coming. I do believe that if a scenario is something that you have at least gone over in your mind it will become part of the instinctive and/or reflex action should you actually be presented with a similar scenario.

Since my co worker just got creamed by a cage that ran a sop sign, I have been thinking about the scenario a lot. Enough that even though the fall colors were just stating to get near peak and the weather was perfect for a ride, I did not go out. If a bad situation presents itself you have a better chance if you have at least thought about it some before it happens. So the question is; If you are going down the road and and you see a car pulling out in front of you, and there is just no way to avoid getting hit, no room behind the car to swerve to the right and oncoming traffic or something else blocking a swerve to the left, what is the best option? Hit the brakes hard which will slow you down and cause you to hit the side of the offending car and get launched into the handle bars, or get on the gas hard to try to get your body past the point of impact even though the car will still hit the back end of the bike and likely knock you down at a higher rate of speed? Or some other option. I know the best option is to not put yourself in that situation but sometimes $hit happens. I do realize that every encounter is different, and the snap decision will have to be made at that moment in time.

My coworker has had surgery on his leg on Friday, another on Saturday and another on Sunday with more to come. They still do not know if they can save anything below the knee, but they are trying. The gal that hit him has a constantly changing story. First she said that she was only going 25mph when she hit him, then the cop pointed out that it was only 10 feet from the stop sign to the point of impact, so she said she was going 5 mph. The distance that he was thrown was consistent with 40 mph in a 25 zone. The fastest sports cars can not get to 25 let alone 40 in 10 feet. Then she changed her story again to the sun was in her eyes so she could not see him. This was at around 7:00am and she was heading west so the sun was at her back. The police are looking at possible criminal charges, and have subpoenaed her cell phone records to see if that was a factor. Kens only injuries were the crush injuries to his leg, other than a few very minor scuffs and bumps, He does wear ATGATT, All of his gear is FUBAR. I'll post more when I hear more.

I like the part of using your spotter to avoid the soft spots in the bridge that has bolts missing from the main beams. I guess that if you are in an accident over there and you do not think it is your fault you do not have to stick around.........

If it burns fuel and does not vent outside then you have to worry. You also have to worry about it using up all of the O2 (oxygen) in the garage to furn the fuel and not leaving much left for you. Some heaters do have O2 sensors and will shut down when the O2 level starts to drop. You can add a CO (carbon monoxide) detector to keep tabs on that level. Back when I was building a stock car over the winter in the garage, I used a one of the big kerosene heaters that sounds and looks like a jet engine, 250,000btu, I then put a piece of 2x4 on edge to hold the door open a little for fresh air. You also need to watch out for open flame or red hot heating elements if you will be using any kind of flammable paints or solvents.

When you want to hoist something without putting any side loads on it you just use spreader bars. You can make up something simple out of some 2X6 lumber for the back end of the trailer and then use the hitch for the front lift point of the trailer. The length of the blue pieces is made so that the top spreader bar clears the top of the trailer, the red pads are only required if something is needed to engage somthing on the frame or rear spriing mount of the trailer, and the green lengths are set to clear the sides of the trailer. 2x4s would probably be more than adequate if you do not want to use the 2x6 shown. You still want to attach your straps to the bottom board so that the nails holding it together are not carrying any load. the top bar will hold the straps away from the sides of the box. and you will be lifting at the points that were designed to carry the trailers weight. You could bring all 3 lift straps together just above the trailer and then be able to use a single line and lift to lift it into place.

Winter is coming. Everything was covered in frost for the ride to work this morning. I had to find my warm gloves quick. I think things here will get a lot worse long before they get better. Now pass the gravy, I don't care what kind.

This is why we don't like to talk to techies in other countries: I was recently in Miami and decided to learn the Spanish language, so I could understand the check-outs at McDonalds. My next move is to learn Indian, so I can understand my doctors and the person that answers the phone when I have a warranty problem. Yep, by the time I read this, I was able to understand the 1st line. "TENJOOBERRYMUDS"... In order to continue getting-by in America (our home land), we all need to learn the NEW English language! Practice by reading the following conversation until you are able to understand the term "TENJOOBERRYMUDS". With a little patience, you'll be able to fit right in. Now, here goes... The following is a telephone exchange between maybe you as a hotel guest and room-service somewhere in the good old U S A today....... Room Service : "Morrin. Roon sirbees." Guest : "Sorry, I thought I dialed room-service." Room Service: " Rye . Roon sirbees...morrin! Joowish to oddor sunteen???" Guest: "Uh..... Yes, I'd like to order bacon and eggs.." Room Service: "Ow July den?" Guest: ".....What??" Room Service: "Ow July den?!?... Pryed, boyud, poochd?" Guest: "Oh, the eggs! How do I like them? Sorry.. Scrambled, please." Room Service: "Ow July dee baykem? Crease?" Guest: "Crisp will be fine." Room Service: "Hokay. An Sahn toes?" Guest: "What?" Room Service: "An toes. July Sahn toes?" Guest: "I... Don't think so." RoomService: "No? Judo wan sahn toes???" Guest: "I feel really bad about this, but I don't know what 'judo wan sahn toes' means." RoomService: "Toes! Toes!...Why Joo don Juan toes? Ow bow Anglish moppin we bodder?" Guest: "Oh, English muffin!!! I've got it! You were saying 'toast'... Fine...Yes, an English muffin will be fine." RoomService: "We bodder?" Guest: "No, just put the bodder on the side." RoomService: "Wad?!?" Guest: "I mean butter... Just put the butter on the side." RoomService: "Copy?" Guest: "Excuse me?" RoomService: "Copy...tea..meel?" Guest: "Yes. Coffee, please... And that's everything." RoomService: "One Minnie. Scramah egg, crease baykem, Anglish moppin, we bodder on sigh and copy .... Rye ??" Guest: "Whatever you say.." RoomService: "Tenjooberrymuds." Guest: "You're welcome" Remember I said "By the time you read through this YOU WILL UNDERSTAND 'TENJOOBERRYMUDS' ".......and you do, don't you!

I still do not know if it was distracted driving or the old "I looked but did not see him". It will be quite a while before I can get to see him to find out more.

One of my co workers was T-boned on his bike (Honda 500) this morning on his way into work. Details are still a little sketchy. What I do know so far The cage that hit him ran a stop sign. He was transported by Flight for Life helicopter from the main hospital here in Racine to a major medical complex in Milwaukee. I know that he has multiple compound fractures of the leg and foot. I do know that he wears a helmet so I hope that end of him is OK.

I had one of those surveys cold call me at work, They promised me $50 to take the survey, I just happened to be bored with nothing to do, so I spent an hour on the phone with a pleasant sounding woman (she had a sexy voice:whistling:). Even though I never really expected anything, a check for $50 showed up in my home mailbox about a month later and the check was good.

It wont help, the smoke does not hang around forever you know. I have thought of adding an oil injector to a header for tailgaters though. Maybe that would help the 2nd gens track me??????

I live only about an hour drive from there. I had to stop going to that show since the last 2 times I nearly ended up bringing a new toy home with me. It is an amazing show if you are into flying things.

Vac Bag storage ?
Flyinfool replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just remember to factor in the wind. That vac bag, a tarp or whatever will give the wind more side area to grab and do things that you would rather not have done. -
Your right, the others all rust a lot faster. They had to find something they could do faster than a Chevy......... See what you started. As long as you brought the topic rust up.... What is the best way for an amateur to fix/stop the early start of rust? My '96 Full size P/U is just starting to show some rust bubbles around the bottom edges, and it only has a quarter million miles.

Cool Now I can start planning / finagling / conniving to try to make it happen. In my 30 years with a bike it will/would be my longest trip.

I really do not know if my finances will allow me to make, it but if I can the 4th would be best for me. Bottom line is to do what will work best for you. Thanks for doing this for everyone.

All three instructors said there was no issue with my grip or trigger finger. I was checked with the infamous spent round in the chamber test. The muzzle never moved when I pulled the trigger. I completely agree, but it works till someone can show me what I am doing wrong. I shoot right handed but am very left eye dominant to the point that I shoot right handed and must sight with my left eye. It does cause me to have to grip the gun a little strange. I have always thought it was tied to 4 I agree fully. My one hand gun that is sighted in correct for me or anyone else is a Magnum Research Lone Eagle in 7mm-08 with a scope. I have taken deer at 150 yards with this gun. I'm trying to get the deer out of your way. (Ha! Like the way I swung this back on topic?)
